Please pardon this post if it's old news. I haven't been airline active for a few months.
Any way it looks as thought the "cactus" callsign may be staying.

OMG I just saw this over there too and came here to post. Great minds think alike ;)
Yay for "cactus"!!! I was listening to channel 9 on UA and heard "cactus" quite a bit and thought, how sad is it gonna be when you dont hear that anymore. But this just made my day!
Of course it's gonna be funny to hear the callsign flying around Europe, if indeed they use it in Europe. Any news on that?

Yeah, this made my day as well. Even though it's something you don't get to hear being used if you fly HP(unless you have a scanner), it's nice to know its still there.
I wonder if the ICAO identifier will remain AWE which is spoken as Cactus, or USA which is spoken as USAir. Or will there be a switcheroo?
And for more speculation, will the IATA identifier be HP on 401 ticket stock, or US on 037 tickets?

When you are on a UA codeshare flight, you can listen to Channel 9 and hear "Cactus" that way. ^

The new website issued my tickets on HP's 401 ticket stock.

My impression is that HP and US are still two separate airlines internally - especailly that thing about the FAA operating certificate. So, I would imagine that the callsigns would be around for a while.
It seems to me that they merged the FFP but not the reservation system yet. I would think that is tied into ticketing.
