48 hours after you have spoken with *******, confirming your changes, call the toll free customer service phone number of the online travel agency that originally booked your ticket.
Have the CSR CANCEL any flights and/or dates and/or routings that do NOT match what ***** booked for you over the phone.
Why this process?
While ********/AZ can change your tickets in real time over the phone, those changes are only ADDED, BUT NOT REPLACED to your online travel agency itinerary, hence the duplicate/conflicting bookings that you might be seeing with Orbitz, Travelocity and Cheap Tickets.
This brief process will insure that the online travel agencies will NOT have any duplicate or conflicting bookings, that they might be inclined to try and modify without your or AZ's knowledge.

OK everybody, here is the scoop on how AZ seems to be handling this:
1. Who do you have to deal with at AZ?
Deal with the Alitalia office based on your country of purchase. Tickets purchased in the US will be handled by the AZ office in New York City, tickets purchased in Canada will be handled by their Canada office.
2. My itinerary is messed up. What now?
Alitalia will reinstate you itinerary based on what you originally booked, including any valid connections and/or codeshare flights - including any stopovers that were originally ticketed.
3. I want to change my dates. Can I do that?
It is up to you to negotiate this with Alitalia. Their policy seems to be to allow one date change before departure - after that, no more changes. Plus, if you change your dates, you will only be able to do so based on whether AZ likes it or not. If you have AZ metal over the pond, you will very likely get your change request approved. If changes involve other airlines, you will most likely not get it.
4. I am still missing my ticket from CT / Orbitz. What to do?
Talk to AZ first and have your itinerary reinstated as booked. From my experience, this works miracles with the respective travel agency, as they do not have to deal witz AZ.
5. Can I drop the flights to/from LCA?
Alitalia is open to that suggestion, as it essentially saves them the money they need to pay CY for transportation between LCA and Italy. You are likely to get this authorized within the one-time-only possibility to adjust your itinerary.
Apart from that, please keep in mind that the agent in the NYC office has quite a bunch of work to do. Obviously, first he was told by management to alter and/or change all those bookings, now he has to work on getting them back to normal. So be nice and friendly, and bear with him. This will get you way closer to what you want than complaining.

Orbitz has confirmed the practice by Alitalia, but is itself powerless to do anything beyond raising the issue. My personal efforts to revole the problem have proven futile, because apparently no one in Alitalia Reservations or Customer Care is empowered to handle this booking issue.
I want Alitalia to acknowledge its deceptive practices with repsect to this and similar tickets, restore the original fare rules and honor them (along with the tickets) in full, and provide a tangible expression of concern to underscore the magnitude of the airline's breach of its contractual obligations and customer expectations.

As you probably know, Alitalia has not fully 'done the stand-up thing here'. On April 6th, Alitalia retroactively made changes to the fare rules for fare basis DRTCA9 and then removed the original fare rules so neither travel agents nor anyone else could see the new fare rules.
The new fare rules are far more restrictive: Stopovers are no longer allowed, changes have been prohibited, and the fare is now considered non-refundable. To make matters worse, AZ has made unilateral changes to most people's bookings, imposing new routings and different dates of travel.
Alitalia's conduct is nothing short of fraudulent. The change in fare rules is a breech of their contract of carriage, and the fact that they went to so much trouble to get rid of the original fare rules is not only suspicious, but illegal.
Attempts to resolve these problems are met with complete confusion and misinformation. Calls to Orbitz and Cheaptickets are met with the line 'only the airline can make changes, and any changes will incur a repricing at full fare'. Clearly, this is not the best handling of the situation by either side. Most customers simply want a clear point of communication- be it from Orbitz, Cheap Tickets, or Alitalia. We simply want one source of accurate information, and a phone number or e-mail address dedicated specifically to issues associated with these tickets.

Don't worry. Business seats are changeable.
If you're still worried, leave it 10 or 12 hours until the fare dies, then call.

I booked through cheap tickets in september, 5 days in cyprus.
Routed through ORD (gonna hop off and head back to LAX) on the way back with the ORD-YYZ on AA.
I just got an email from CT that has AA locator and AZ locator. And 2 ticket numbers (for two travellers).
This is looking pretty good.
I wish I could have overnighted in FCO instead of MXP on the way back. I guess I might be able to change that later; once the dust clears.

So, my question (based on the above) would be, If I wanted to change my dates to a week earlier, what would be the best way to do it?

Tried the Cheaptickets cancel/change button, which said I would have $200. change fees + $50 cheaptickets fee. And, that I must call.

So let me get this straight. Say, if I book two tickets for my parents and they can't go in say, Sept for when I booked it. Can I change their tickets to December with no extra fees, or is there a refare?

finally pulled the trigger on Mon July 17 returning fri July 21 on cheap tickets. Our routing wound up being more expensive (another $40 over what most others are reporting) but we didnt have time to find out why. We'll be on the east coast the weekend of 7/15-16 and thought this would be a worthy detour!!

just remember, no flights out of YYZ Wed, and no flights out from LCA on Mon. I can't price anything on the return that doesn't go back to YYZ non-stop via MXP or FCO, so cheaptickets might be better in that you can connect in EWR and maybe JFK as well.

I found outbound on Mon and return on Fri for many, many weeks including next Jan and Feb if someone wants to plan some status runs for next year. But looks like LCA isnt a beach location in Jan, bring the warm clothes and hope there is somewhere to stay!
Looking for a short status run for this year, anyone see a quick turn?

I was trying for a 4th of July family vacation, and it wouldn't process 3 tickets. I got one, and then tried for one or two, and the price would go up to 5k. I thought the deal was pulled, or full, but finally found 3 seats in late July.
What are the odds I can change the ticket, or just refund it, for the 4th of July one? I'm not sure if I will reschedule, or what.
Hopefully Cheap Tickets holds up their end. I've never booked through them before.
I did pick the next day delivery of the tickets, just to be sure.

nope, looks like out bound is S/O, closest outbound is 6/27, return looking real spotty.... just keep plugging in dates, and try using MXP/FCO if the first try you don't get anything back. Search like this:

At this point, the website says that there will be a change fee (airline) and $50 Cheaptickets fee. If you cancel, you will not receive your $5.99 fee or overnight fee returned. I hope someone might have something different.

I had to order a PAPER ticket and pay a hefty fee for that. Is there no e-tix?

Grrrr.... found my problem.... don't remember the stupid security code on my new CC and I don't got it with me........ unfortunately TL and cheaptickets both require it.
Is this bookable on any other sites? Tried a couple w/ no luck....

Well I recall one other deal that people who had them overnighted got the deal, and those that selected normal didn't. Not sure if it will make a difference in this case or not.
Wouldn't it be horrible if we got bumped in Business? :)

I didn't have any luck finding flights on Travelocity, but was able to find them fairly easily on Cheaptickets.com. I'd keep trying to find dates. If you have KVS, maybe check to see what days have D class availability?
Hopefully AZ won't be on strike during my trip!

On travelocity.com all I am now getting is $1600 range fares in business class. Not bad but not the deal I got quite a few times. :D
Even with the cost of my US-YYZ, MXP-Sweden, MXP-Belgium, MXP-UK and MXP-India tickets nested in between I am still going to be way ahead even with hotel costs thrown in. :D

Yes, you need to make sure D inventory is available. Otherwise it's a reprice (and reissue, I believe)

I already saw this, AAA rate of 125 CYŁ a night or 10k starpoints (cat 4).
It looks pretty cool, the pool area and all.

Let me see, if I got it.. cause... I'm pretty green at this.
Talk to the airline after ticketed. They don't know what we paid, just that the fare class needs to be "D inventory". Is that a "special" business class? Another words, would D be hard to get in the future? I know all airlines don't always denote the same fare classes.
The re-issue would be by AZ, with no fees?
Sean mentioned "good for a year".... so if my dates of vacation availabilty changed, Do I have a year from booked or from orginal travel date?
