Yes.

Given other airlines' sales where the base cost of the ticket was even less than the $33 for this one, this is not an "obvious mistake". :)

AZ is much better than many other European carriers in that I can get an AZ employee on the phone on the US toll-free number day and night. Took Contracts only once so far (in LLB)...The Diploma in Legal Practice is a skills course which focuses on practical aspects of the profession, like oral and written advocacy, practice management, business accounting for solicitors, ethics, etc...However, I think if we manage to get paper tix in hand...will be tough for AZ to weasel out of this. The fact that at least one person actually called AZ agents, spoke to supervisors, and booked the fare through AZ...I find that far more compelling. (See previous post pages back)

Did anyone pay attention to the Fare Rules on Orbitz when the MXP-LCA and JFK-YYZ portion was marked as ECONOMY?
I didn't bother checking but am now wondering if that will make it difficult to change the dates on the itinerary since it's probably not a D fare. I don't think anyone had posted if the Economy was changeable.
I should've paid attention to the details on that fare. Hopefully it translates into a full Y fare bucket and won't have any penalties/re-price for date changes. I guess I can wait to get the paper ticket in my hands, but the anticipation! :p Assuming we actually can get them

I agree - hence the panic on AZ's part. That said, given that we're talking about seats that regularly sell for thousands of dollars, AZ might find it more expedient to not honor the tickets (or put em in Coach) and take the chance that few will want to go through the burden and expense of litigation.

By the way, in New York -- at least back in 1999 -- you could become a lawyer without going to law school. You just need to "apprentice" for some period with a lawyer and then take the bar exam. You pass it, you become a lawyer in NY and a member of the NY Bar.

I think you could maintain a class action suit, although the lawyers would probably get most of any judgment! A more likely scenario is that AZ realizes that the cost of fighting this is simply not worth it, and honors the tickets. I believe that's what most airlines do in these situations...so you can think of that as a sort of settlement. Let's face it...while litigation would cost the ticket-holders, it would also greatly cost the airline which probably farms its work out to some big NYC law-firm that can easily surpass the cost of these tix. in no time!

If you don't have a ticket number within 4 hours, you're likely to have a bit more of an issue -- and then some -- than those of us with a ticket number. Until the 4 hour mark passes, I wouldn't worry too much -- if you booked your ticket on CheapTickets or Orbitz. Then if there's nothing there, then it's far more likely to be time to rethink.

I received my Orbitz confirmation 11:48 am PDT. I have an Orbitz record locator and an Alitalia record locator, but don't have a ticket number yet (hoping...)
I tried 7/6-7/30 at Orbitz, got the price, then when I clicked to buy, it said the fare was unavailable...so I changed the return date & bingo!

I got in on the Air Canada fare errors the last round [booked on Austrian]
I think this one works, because its paper tickets which I think are tougher to cancel.
In my experience, AZ's better than AC (and Austrian) when it comes to discounted flexible business class fares that we see pop up in Mileage Run.

They're available at the bottom of the "flight details" page, just above the fare breakdown.

Got my fingers crossed on my second set of tickets (No biggie if it doesn't go through...'twas only a weekend MR with 1 night LCA, 1 night FCO). Luckily first set of tix for girlfriend and I have numbers...Now to see what Category the Le Meridien Limassol has been designated by Starwood...will be able to swing four free nights in a suite if it's Cat 4 or Lower.

Alitalia is now not honouring any ticket request. They are cancelled tickets and Orbitz is calling them "scheduled changes." If you don't have a ticket number issued, it can get dicey.

Just for clarification, you are not saying that Alitalia is going to dishonor tickets already issued (with a ticket number), right?

Hello
I called Alitalia and was able to change seat numbers on the flights - but they referred me back to Orbitz when I asked to change one of the european flights on AZ.
Is that correct? Or can I call AZ back to change it???
Also - even though the fare fules seem to allow changes...is there an Orbitz change fee???
other than that - I am all booked with 3 tix for August.
I realize that nobody has yet received them however.. but AZ office in NYC did seem to see the booking and change seat numbers without query.

Airlines routinely try to push the customers back to the booking agent (travel agent). The airline could do changes, but the willingness to do such can vary from agent to agent.

My guess: for those who had paper tickets issued, printed *and* shipped, you are on your way...enjoy the trip. I think Alitalia will welcome you aboard with a smile while dinging orbitz, travelocity, et al. for issuing these at the incorrect fare without checking with them first or at least alerting them.
For those who had paper tickets issues but not shipped, I'm sure Orbitz is scrambling to figure out what to do - possibly cancelling the reservations and voiding out the printed tickets is on their agenda once they finish talking to Alitalia and whichever GDS had this loaded.
For those who have no ticket numbers issued, I think you will not get your tickets.
Personally, I hope everyone who got the reservation in time receives their tickets and enjoys the trip. I wish I was going too. However, Air Canada recently changed the tone of how carriers can respond to these mistakes by basically flipping everyone the bird, then offering a meager settlement - telling those who want to sue to 'bring it on'. Other carriers might become bolder in their response to similar situations...let's see how AZ reacts...
If AZ dumps responsibility on the ticketing agents, well we all know how Expedia and Orbitz like to treat us over here

YES. You MUST got to LCA or your return trip, MXP-YYZ will be CANCELED.
Just change the dates after you receive your ticket so that you spend 1 night (or less, if possible) in LCA and come back to MXP. One night in LCA is not the end of the world, especially in light of the cost of the business class ticket across the pond. :)

As I understand it, you do have to fly to Cyprus and back, or else you won't be able to take the MXP-US leg back home - but since it appears you can change your dates, you could try squeezing your MXP-LCA RT together, spending a day back/forth to Cyprus just to get that part of it out of the way.

Yeah, the first few people shouldn't have called the agents/GDSs/airline, and really shouldn't have sent a farealert. Farealert has been on NATIONAL TV. every airline in the country has their revenue management guys subscribed to it.
If you submit a fare alert to win one of their gift certificates to amazon.com or something, I hope your next hundred flights are on CRJ-100s, and half of them are cancelled due to weather. Seriously.

I am a little confused though with the mixed Business/Economy bookings for MXP-LCA and US-based transfers some of us have gotten. D fare basis applied only to Business class right? Ohcanada mentioned that it was Y for the Economy, so I presume a Y fare basis is as liberal as you can get with Economy, therefore should not have any problems with the D fare?

Many people here dislike posting the FlyerTalk finds to this "service" because so many people (airlines and sites like Travelocity) have signed up for it and the fear is that releasing a "fare alert" will kill the deal.

AZ flies some 767s. Which version I don't know. I do know that last year there was at least two different seating configurations in the 767 Magnifica cabins.
AZ flies 767-400's.

My ticket numbers are shown on cheaptickets, no UPS tracking number yet (I booked around 3:30 a.m CST so was 'one of the first').
I only have seats assigned on the last segment (Newark-Toronto)...and it won't let me pick seats for the other flights saying they will be assigned at check-in:( Seems like everyone else has seat assignments, so that is a bummer.
I'm waiting to see how this plays out...as are other posters, I'm hoping I can drop the MXP-LCA-LCA-MXP segments and stay in Italy, although it's only 3 nights there then I have a 4 night 'layover' in Italy, it would still be better IMHO to stay in Italy.
I also have seats assigned only on the last segment MXP-YYZ.
Why the panic to avoid Cyprus? Brits and Swedes have been holidaying there for years.

Well it's been a fun 12 hours. So much for trying to get any work done, or much sleep.
I've got one trip that I don't know if I will cancel or not (depends if I can change the flight dates), but got a nice family vacation locked in. Hopefully I'll be able to fly to Toronto without paying an arm and a leg. I've got 8 days at the Hilton locked in for 10k points a night, and am feeling good about the deal.
I've got ticket numbers for all of the tickets, but not sure if I'll get the tickets tomorrow or no. Fingers crossed.
Thanks again to Rosj for the great deal.

Not even close. For every person who visits FT often, there're likely 10 people who are signed up for FA and never visit FT except when they get a FA email.
you may be right - I honestly have no clue how big FA's list is. I always figured with the press coverage FT has gotten over the last year or so, there would be tons of lurkers here than people who would sign up for an email newsletter. then again, given that lately I've been checking FT more than my email, maybe I'm not the best opinion on message boards vs email lists

No they don't and they don't fly 767-200 series which is what my flight from YYZ-MXP is supposedly on. I'll be interested to see if it is a typo or if these aircraft "magically" appear from somewhere. More than likely a typo.
As stated previously, 762 is an internal AZ designation that refers to 763s that were originally operated by Air Canada and subsequently sold to AZ.

Yes you can. You can either standby for free, or for $25 you can do confirmed standby and get on an earlier flight. You cannot exercise the latter option until within 3hrs of the departure time of the flight you wish to go on.
You may also be able to just switch to an earlier AA flight without screwing up the reservation as it has booked the AA legs in full fare economy (at least on my reservation).

Does travelocity.ca provide ticket numbers? I bought between 2330 and 0045 PDT and got "ticketed" confirmations sent from 0411 to 0537 PDT (first booked was last ticketed). No ticket numbers in the e-mail or online. Status is tickets being sent.
FWIW, the fare on the days when the cheap fare wasn't available was some C$3k which wsn't too bad a deal in itself. That was on Expedia.ca where I was having no luck booking.
Too bad the YVR-YYZ fare is going to run much more than my 2 back-to-back LCA trips!

Sorry, missed that one. I know that I and a number of others requested overnight delivery on these tix. I just checked the Orbitz FAQs, and they say that if you choose this option, your tix. will be delivered in the next scheduled shipment to your city. So, for Orbitz to get us the tix. by tomorrow, these have to be out the door within the next hour at the latest, I'm assuming (7 pm EST shipping deadline in most places, right).

You will earn Skymiles for the transoceanic flights, but you will not earn Skymiles for the CY operated flights to/from LCA - as they are not operated by a Skyteam partner.

"Alitalia:
No mileage credit for fares booked in E, F, G, P, R, S, U, or Z class"
notice the difference with the following:
"KLM Royal Dutch Airlines:
Mileage credit only applies to flights operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. No mileage credit will be awarded for fares booked in D, E, G, N, V, or W class."
For Alitalia it actually does not say that it has to be operated by AZ; while for KLM it specifically says "operated by KLM only".
I still think mileage accrual on DL is a no go though ...

1) Does anyone have a tracking number for their paper tickets (long ago in this thread someone mentioned that Orbitz gave then took away a tracking number.
