I am not terribly familiar with the idea of milage runs and all that. But I do cruise this board because of the deals. I saw this fare on the day it was posted, but was not able to get in on it unfortunately.

Here's my question: I know many of you just want the miles for this trip. I would LOVE to get a couple of cheaps tickets to go to cyprus at the end of september. I was wondering if it was possible for someone to switch their tickets to my name so I could go and they would get to keep the miles? I would pay all fees of course. So, is this possible???

Thanks!

Welcome to Flyertalk.

Switching names on tickets once they have already been issued is not possible. But it was certainly an enterprising idea!

There is another very negative point for those who send him the tickets for re-issuing : There is no way anymore to proof the original fare rules, and in case one has to change schedules again or to refund the tickets, it won't be possible anymore. Based on that, I had/will have all my tickets stickered.

Date changes will not be possible after the dates have already been changed once, regardless of whether the original tickets are stickered.

I agree with everyone here (except TravelMan) about the exceptional job that Nicolo is doing under very difficult circumstances. His professionalism is to be contrasted with the surly attitude I have experienced from everyone else I have spoken to at Alitalia (YYZ staff, telephone sales agents, etc.). Hopefully the flight crews' attitude will be closer to Nic's than to that of everyone else at AZ!

He certainly is...knowing he may peruse flyertalk (as he has many friends here) I am pleased at the numerous postive responses regardless of the one negative.

I believe some gave him small gifts (I gave him Italian cookies ;) ). Did we ever do anything as a group? Seems it was discussed here at one time....I might have missed the boat. Maybe TravelMan can make amends by organizing another group effort? :p

While speaking with him this morning, I asked if there is anything I (or we) can get him other than chocolates, and he said, "No, nothing." I still think a small token of our appreciation is in order...

As a point of reference, called Nicolo this morning to change my return and he was very cordial, even though I didn't even have my info in front of me. I actually changed my return to turn around in LCA (arrive on 6/21, depart 6/22) and moved my FCO-YYZ leg from 7/21 to 7/14. The changes were made quickly and professionally, and I will sticker when I get to YYZ in two weeks. I have nothing but nice things to say about Mr. C and I am sure the "good karma" will come back to him.... :)

I agree. He went above and beyond his job duties. I contacted him after Orbitz refused to send me tickets saying they were voided (although by that time N.C. already changed my dates and dropped LCA segment). He promised to follow-up with a manager who deals with Orbitz and a week later called me that everything was set straight and I should get my tickets in two weeks. Orbitz sent the tickets a week after his phone call. Once I sent him my original tickets, he called me again to ask me if it is ok to issue electronic tickets so I don't have to pay for return Fedex charge.

He has clearly done the best job any one can do given the circumstances and should be commended for it.

I received calls form FT members about Travel Man’s remarks and I would like to thank everyone that called me today apologizing for his harsh words and I would like to thank as well the FT members that have posted their kind and thoughtful words on the board. I am flattered and feel honored to have spoken to the many of you in these 2 months. It feels great to have friends! In reference to refunding a ticket already reissued by AZ, there isn’t a problem. Reissued tickets can be refunded, I have already refunded two.

Regarding date changes, it is permitted, which means you can change the date until ticket is reissued or stickered.

Dear Travel Man, the rules of this fare are inexistent, this is the reason why all changes are being taken care of prior to departure to avoid any complications once passenger is overseas. There isn’t a reason to contact me if you are traveling on the dates shown on your ticket but the moment you decide to change the date, you will need to because the authorization to sticker or reissue MUST be granted by Nicolo <last name removed> only otherwise neither AZ at airports nor CheapTickets / Orbitz /Travelocity will touch passenger’s ticket.

Once again Thank you FT members for your kind and affectionate support and Travel Man hope to hear from you soon!

Are most people planning on hopping out of LCA to another destination? If so, where?

I have two trips to LCA, and on one of them I will enjoy Cyprus, but on the other I'd like to visit another country. I have been looking at options and I was thinking Greece, but I see that Mr. Halliday is planning on Cairo. That makes me think twice, Cairo could be interesting.

Anyways, if anyone would like to share their plans so I might be able to get a handle on viable options.

Thanks

We're spending two weeks in Greece.

AA made such an offer on $66 LGW-CLE tickets:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4299178&#post4299178

Although I wish airlines would make such offers more often, I think such an offer could set a bad precedent--it would allow anyone paying very close attention to FT to achieve top-tiered elite status from an airline's mistake fare, without ever having to fly. The airline might save money in the short run by making such an offer, but I doubt it would in the long run.

But I sure hope that Alitalia takes those up on the offer!

The cases are distinguishable:

1. I'm willing to bet that many of the LGW-CLE ticket buyers were AA FFers who will readily step on another AA flight whereas many of the LCA ticket buyers are "one-off" folks who won't necessarily fly Alitalia more often if such a deal is offered.

2. It costs AA nothing to issue more AAdvantage miles - asking AZ to grant miles to partner FFPs costs real money.

I am going to Tel Aviv, Israel. Cyprus Airways and ElAl both operate flights and codeshare each other. Amex (Travelocity) is able to ticket the itinerary; they price out cheaper on CY ticket stock than on ElAl ticket stock and avoid the currency conversion fee you would pay on CyprusAirways.com. Flights operate Sunday-Thursday morning/night and Friday & Saturday Mornings only. Note that the Friday & Saturday flights are NOT codeshared with ElAl due to the Sabbath.

On the outbound, you can connect to either the ElAl or Cyprus Airways night flights immediately after arriving in LCA. I chose the ElAl flight since my inbound is on Friday on Cyprus Airways. Additionally, the returning TLV-LCA flight will force you to overnight in LCA prior to your LCA-MXP/FCO flight. I am staying at he Hilton Nicosia (paid stay which leaves me 2 nights away from HH Diamond)

Here are the timetable links:

Not to sound tooooo greedy (which I do), but the flights from WAS to YYZ are a killer. Can't find anything cheaper than $350 roundtrip for an 1 Hour and 20 minute flight. Almost defeats the purpose. Almost.

BTW those are some cool itineraries I've seen posted for Greece and Tel Aviv. I'm just doing Cyprus for 5 days and visiting some friends in Rome for 4.

I´ll be flying from HELsinki, Finland to Toronto just to get back over Atlantic. I figure I get to experience a new c-class product and visit Canada for the first time in my life. I really look forward to seeing Toronto and especially Montreal. I´ll do this in the winter. But at least I know what I´m getting as we´re used to snow and all.

I've been following this thread since day one, and only posted once. I waited until the dust settled and then made my plans for my first trip to LCA.

Just if anyone's interested, this is what I did.

Changed my original reservations (for 2 people) to:

Sept 3 YYZ - FCO "D"
Sept 7 FCO - LCA "Y"
Sept 21 LCA - FCO "D"
Sept 22 FCO - YYZ "D"

Called AZ this morning to make all the changes. Will mail in ticket tomorrow.

What else I have done:
Spending one night in Toronto coming and going.
Using Delta FF miles to go CAE - ATL - YYZ outbound, YYZ - ATL (stopover 2 days) then back to CAE (25K miles each)

Using Delta FF miles to fly (20K miles each) to:
Sept 5 FCO - VCE
Sept 7 VCE - FCO

Staying at the Hilton FCO both coming and going one night - been to Rome several times (including 6 day two weeks ago...)

Found some good hotels on tripadvisor for VCE and LCA

Then added:
Sept 9 LCA - AMM (Jordan)
Start tour that winds up in Cairo
Sept 21 CAI - LCA
Tickets bought through Cyprus Air for about $320 rt pp

Anyway - should be a lot of fun. Only spending 2 days in LCA.

Now I got to decide what to do in December with my other pair of tickets!

Seems like you're doing CAI-LCA and LCA-FCO on the same day using two separate tickets. Haven't looked up the schedules but IIRC it's like 1h15m between them.

Now, I haven't been to LCA but I imagine you're going to have to clear immigration (that the airport isn't set up with transit facilities).

Shouldn't be a problem and all. But any delay out of CAI and you'll wind up with some real difficulties, there aren't a whole lot of options if you miss your LCA-FCO segment.

Not clear to me what CY would do -- even though it was a CY flight that would have been delayed. Possibly you could get them to fly you to ATH later in the day and then buy a seat to FCO to make your return?

Guess it's just a little adventurous for me to try a 1h15m connection, int'l-to-int'l, at an airport without transit facilities or too many backup flights when traveling on separate tickets.

why would u use 20k for a ticket from rome to venice...you can fly for so cheap. when i was there last, volareweb was flying for 5 eur each way plus tax, cost me less than 50 eur total.
check out www.whichbudget.com for list of all the LCCs in the area. the in air time is so shoert, i dont think it matters who u fly...def not worth 20k for a short alitalia flight. did u check how much tix with alitalia cost? they may be matching the discount airlines-european carriers often do...

This is kind of humorous, considering everything has been resolved for the most part. I just now received a reply from the Canadian Transportation Agency regarding my original complaint several months ago:

...As part of our investigation into your complaint, we have contacted
Alitalia on your behalf. According to Alitalia, it has contacted you and
advised you that it will honour your reservation(s)on the dates travel
has been agreed upon and the rules associated with your fare; however,
all passengers itineraries must include transportation to Larnaca,
Cyprus.

Accordingly, it would appear that Alitalia has resolved the issues
contained in your complaint. Therefore, we now consider this matter
resolved....

I'm glad to see that had we not been able to resolve this situation, it was at the very least being monitored.

I think you guys have the right idea; driving isn't that bad. We did it a couple of weeks ago to get to YYZ for our trip, and we left from BNA which is at least a couple of hours further. We made it up in one day, and spent the night before in the Toronto Airport Marriott ($50 bid accepted on Priceline). We parked at the Park N Fly just down the street and took the shuttle right to the terminal. Print the coupon off their website (www.parknfly.ca) and it should only cost you $40 Canadian for a week's worth of parking. On the way back, we overnighted at the Fallsview Marriott in Niagara Falls, ON ($95 bid accepted on Priceline). Both hotels were great for the price and our purposes.

When Nicolo approved my date changes last month, I knew that I would have a long mid-day layover in MIA on 6 June. So I asked him to note in my record that I would be having the tickets reissued at that time and place.

Arriving at their MIA ticket counter yesterday at 12:45 the AZ staff did not offer me congratulations or high fives for booking such an amazing mistake fare. But they were entirely courteous and professional. As I waited in the "Ticket Sales" queue behind a couple whose credit card had been declined, both the Magnifica and Economy agents summoned me to their stations. But when they saw why I was there, they politely sent me back, saying that Mr Zittola would be the one to help me.

Once it was my turn, Mr Z handled everything very efficiently in less than ten minutes. He did comment that this "was a very unusual situation" and of course it is. If my flights go as smoothly as the reissue I will be very happy. :)

Asia Miles has a short-haul award, but it's not a discount; it's the standard 15k award CX has for travel that is between 0 and 600 miles. (The one-way award for the same distance is 10k miles.)

As mentioned before somewhere in this thread, AA is currently (1 Jun - 30 Sep) offering 7,500 miles discount on awards to/from Toronto for its credit card holders in the US. So even long-haul awards from the West Coast cost 17,500 miles (plus a $15 phone booking fee).

Are any other programs currently offering short-haul award discounts?

It's interesting to read everyone's creativity in getting up there. I still haven't decided if I'm going to drive/fly/walk to Toronto from DC.

I only have 1 ticket, so I'm travelling alone and meeting up with friends in Italy. If I had 2 or more tickets, there's no way I could justify flying without using points.

But since it's just me, I may just have to bite the bullet and drop $300 for BWI-YYZ. There's no chance I can manage an 8 hour drive alone in a rental car on the way back, without a night in a hotel anyway. That's $300 bucks easy right there.

BWI-YYZ extortion seems like the best cost vs. convenience scenario for me as a pre-Italy solo traveler at this point...

This I know ... it's the YYZ-NYC that is giving me the problem. The best I can do is 2 separate rentals: YYZ-BUF (no drop charge) and then BUF-NYC. Total car rental cost is approx. USD300 plus I reckon another USD100+ in gasoline for the approx. 1,000 miles of highway travel.

At this rate, it looks like the AA award LGA-YYZ-LGA @17,500 plus USD47 in fees is the way to go for us

At first, I was debating flying NYC-BUF for $50-75 each way (US, CO, Jet Blue, etc) and renting a car from there to/from YYZ. Ultimately, I booked an award ticket w/AA from LGA-YYZ. Much easier with less hassle...
Good luck!

I am doing stopovers in YYZ on other award tickets. So basically no additional cost with the added benefit of less competition for award travel seats across the Atlantic. :)

Am I the only one thinking of Amtrak between NYC and YYZ? Got some compo from them last month for delaying me 15 hours between LA and Chicago so will use that for the trip. for getting back I've decided I will just 'forget' to complete the final JFK-YYZ portion of the trip.

That would be my last option.it's way too long.about 12 hrs I believe and is not cheap at all.Plus delays are always around the corner.

Gotta love AC's 15k reward. I didn't even have an Aeroplan account until after booking this LCA trip. Set up an aeroplan acct, transferred in 30k points from Amex, and as soon as they posted I had a return for myself BOS-YYZ, and a return for the girlfriend ATL-YYZ. Couldn't believe ATL-YYZ was only a 15k redemption.

Sounds like this is the best option for east coasters, at least those with 15K Aeroplan miles...

Have reservation fastly approaching next month and not sure what to do there. Have not made any date changes because looking for work first.

However, plan to not spend much time in Cyprus, want to take ferry service to nearby countries. Poseidon and another ferry company used to offer overnight ferry service from Cyprus to Rhodes, Greece and Port Said, Egypt.

Any info online about ferry service now? I am showing service is suspended until further notice. :(

from a few conversations with trav agents in cyprus, the only ferry service that remains is to rhodes and athens (pireaus), and basically it leaves once a week (and u r effectively a passenger on the cruise ship)...you then can take a return either the next day or the next week. www.cruisecyprus.com has info. its basically louis' cruises schedule. the cruisecyprus website says the tel aviv ferry might be back this yr, but the agent there told me most likely it wont be...
for cruises, u basically have 2 options. louis and salamais. louis has a lot more cruises, and their schedules are well detailed on their website. salamais has an old website, their new schedules are not up there, but they might be on cruisecyprus.com (even though cruisecyprus is quite an ugly site, it is updated, somewhat)...i had salamais send me their schedule directly, if you want it, email me with your email address and ill fwd it along...

for egypt and israel, the 2 companies have just 2 day cruises, and apparently u cant jump ship and get back on the next week's cruise 'for security reasons.' you could try using this as a one way though, but money wise its probably not worth it...

gluck, let me know what u decide to do...

Not sure if this is nec. the right thread for this, but I can't think of a better one.

So I'm a 22 y/o queer male college student who's going to be graduating in Dec. and I have 2 of these tix. I already have one ticket set to be used in Sept. (god bless the quarter system) but I haven't changed the dates on my other tix. I was planning on using them either before Christmas in Dec. or after New Years in Jan. (this is probably more likely as reward travel, at least on CO and partners, is rather limited to YYZ from SEA) and was probably going to do a night or two in LCA just due to the expense and lack of public transit.

After that, I was planning on Spain and possibly southern Italy, as those seem to be the nicest places in terms of weather that time of year, I've never been to Spain, and you can get really cheap plane tickets to/from Italy on the LCCs. At the very least, I was planning on BCN and MAD. I wanted to go to CMB or RAK, but it's a bit too much to get there and I'm a bit sketched out about going there solo. In total, I was planning a trip somewhere in length from 10-14 days, not including travel.

Now, I'm sure there are other people (I'm assuming mostly my age) who were also planning on travelling solo, so what I'm proposing is to share a trip with a fellow FTer. While I enjoy hostels (to a point), I find that for my trips, which usually involve an insane amount of activity packed into a small amount of time, a private room makes a huge difference in my enjoyment of the whole thing.

Doing a trip with someone else would save a lot of money (and it doesn't look like the exchange rate with the euro is getting any better) and would be a little less intimidating (although I did do my first EU trip back in 2002 by myself). It also helps with the whole stranger in a strange country thing, not that that isn't also one of the best parts about it.

So, if you would otherwise be traveling alone, have some flexibility in your schedule, want to go to Spain, and don't mind going in the peak of off-season Europe, would you like a travel companion?

I'm not much of a "party" person, so if you're all about going to clubs and such, then it's probably not a good match. However, if you're the type of person that just has to see Guernica in person ASAP, then the match would be great. Genderwise, I'm pretty neutral (provided you're not a pregnant female). You have to be OK with rooming with a queer guy, although I'm not very "pushy" about my sexuality in person. I know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em so to speak.

Obviously, if you're interested, you probably are on a limited budget, so this is kind of irrelevant, but I am trying to do it in a very budget-conscious way, so don't expect to be staying at anything but a 1 or 2 star hotel. I am an epicure/oenophile, so I don't mind splurging a bit for food and wine, but for hotels, all I care about is if there is a moderately comfortable bed, a toilet that is readily accessable, no junkies lying around outside, and a location that is convenient to public transit. I am also all about a good deal of flexibility, but at the same time, I do want to establish a skeleton itin. that at least makes it possible to make advance reservations while still allowing for some flexibility.

If you speak Spanish, Italian, or both, that's a major plus, but certainly not necessary. Je parle français un petit peu maintenant, mais j'étudierai plus français en été et automne. Well, that's my "pitch". If anyone is interested, either PM or e-mail me and I'll get back to you ASAP. Thanks for reading.

- Ben

Leaving from NYC in Sept: I plan to rent a Hertz car to YYZ.. the cost is about $140 for 2 people which is cheaper than the $220 per person for a one way ticket from EWR ... So I'll probably book the car rental and since i am leaving on a Saturday, hope for a last minute airfare special to YYZ which make make it worthwhile for 2 people to fly.

Just because the AZ flight is showing sold out in business doesn't mean the FLIGHT is sold out in business. AZ codeshare has far less availability to/from LCA than the actual CY flight. If you want to see how the flight itself looks you need to pull up the CY flight's availability.

Jetstreamer

Given that CY operate a mobile curtain type biz class it is difficult for them to sell out if Y is wide open as they can just expand the biz section as per demand. Most European carriers have curtains and expander seats that go at least to the o/w exit.

I agree it isn't the best idea for those who are time concious but I plan to make a vacation out of the whole thing and I find travelling by train very relaxing. If it gets in a few hours late I don't mind - I would have at least 20 hours to play with.

I have actually taken the Maple Leaf from Niagara Falls to Toronto a few times now and has always arrived on time but sods law and all that. I have a $125 voucher to use anyway which covers the cost of the trip in business class ($113 total).

I know that it is very easy to walk across to Turkish Cyprus. But I am not sure about boats to Turkey. You would first need to get from the Turkish side of Nicosia to the coast (I think about an hour drive or less). I know that you are allowed to go from Greek to Turkish Cyprus for the day.

I believe that once you go to Turkey then back to Cyprus, the Greeks will not let you to the Greek side. At least it was this way last year (Greek Cyprus by way of Turkey and Turkish Cyprus was not allowed). But having started in Greek Cyprus your case might be different. Probably not a good idea, but I am sure the Cyprus consulate could answer this question direct from the horse's mouth so to speak.

Not sure if this has been discussed already so you will have to forgive me but for those that have traveled already or have experience at MXP how far do you have to go to get the gate area for the cyprus airways flight from the international arrivals area?? In addition to that...provided the flight from Toronto is on time...I believe it should get in around 7:30am...how risky is it to try and make a run to downtown for a few hours via the express train service before the flight to cyprus at 1:30pm? Any info will be appreciated. THX

Yes you can get downtown.Either by train, faster and more expensive,or bus,a little slower but about half the price. On a weekend the bus is ok,during the week you might get stuck in traffic.leave the city at 11.30ish the latest an you'll be ok.enjoy

Probably not a good idea, but I am sure the Cyprus consulate could answer this question direct from the horse's mouth so to speak.

I'm not sure if the procedure is always uniform, but I can speak from my experience last week. I wasn't checked at all on the Greek side, but only on the Turkish side. I believe in the past (according to my LP book) you had to "register" on the Greek side before you walked across (at the Ledra Palace crossing in Nicosia), but the Greeks didn't ask me anything when I inquired, but only said "you can cross." When I got to the Turkish side, they looked at my passport, entered my name and information into a computer, and stamped a photocopied slip that said "Visa." I asked them to stamp my passport as a souvenier, and they did, although it has been suggested that this might not be a great idea. They certainly wouldn't have stamped the passport had I not asked.

Walking around the Turkish side, I noticed travel agencies with ads for flights to IST. This was on the road between the main Ataturk Square and the Famagusta Gate I believe. I don't know price, but probably fairly affordable. They had pictures of an airline I had never heard of, so maybe a charter or a Turkish LCC. In any event, they use Turkish lire on the Turkish side, but also readily accepted Cyprus Pounds. Obviously, the flights to IST would leave from an airport in the North.

Had I had more time, I would have been tempted to try and fly to IST from Northern Cyprus. When I returned later in the day to S. Nicosia, the Greeks never looked at my passport, but just told me I was free to go. Thus, if you fly to IST and back to N. Cyprus, you could always claim that they never recorded your name when you left and that you were just in N. Cyprus for the day or overnight, and they'll probably re-admit you, especially if you have the entry stamp from LCA to prove you originally entered the island there.

When I left N. Cyprus, they stamped an exit stamp on my photocopied "visa" (and again in my passport only at my request), which was really kind of pointless considering they didn't retain the "visa" but let me keep it. Later, on exit from LCA, the passport guy stamped right next to the N. Cyprus stamp, and didn't say a word.

Once again, these are my own observations of the entire process for what they're worth.

Just wanted to say I am currently in the executive lounge at LCA (with free internet). I flew in without any problems, Nicolo was very professional as were the AZ staff in YYZ (although VERY slow in re-issuing... were very confused on how to make the "taxes" work out) Unfortunately I reooked the day before with only Y available all the way through (event TA). The staff were very courteous and said I would be put in biz if a seat opened up (even though they don't do "waitlists"), but none ever did.

Right now I'm on the way to OSL for the OSL-PVG mistake ^

p.s. the flights to Europe here can leave at some horrendous times, both LH and LO leave around 3:30 am!

I believe it should get in around 7:30am...how risky is it to try and make a run to downtown for a few hours via the express train service before the flight to cyprus at 1:30pm? Any info will be appreciated. THX

I was wondering the same as my flights into and out of MXP are SCHEDULED to be identical and initial reports of the AZ lounges make them out to be crap. But there is the slightly better Air France lounge....

Also, while I know there exists that database where folks have input their details concerning their trips, is there some meet-up thread started somewhere? ...other than the one started by Berlinflyer that seems to have fallen by the wayside?

Since you're flying AZ to AZ, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to check your bags all the way through. Theoratically you could do it with any interline airline, but it should be extra simple when it's the same carrier. If you're asking whether it's possible due to custom clearance, I believe you simply won't clear your bags through customs until you reach LIS, that's all... Happy travels! ;)

If transiting at MXP and going from non-Schengen to non-Schengen, then to get to the AF lounge may not be a straightforward process and/or could be a case of YMMV. The passport control people at MXP are known to -- at least sometimes -- not allow movement from non-Schengen to Schengen parts of the airport (unless you have a boarding pass indicating such); and if push comes to proverbial shove, then an attempt to do that by going landside may work or even be suggested by the passport control people there.

I know I know an FT taboo. The truth of the matter is it's my fault for waiting until the last minute to change flights and I have two months worth of travel lined up started from that point. I had to be in Cyprus that day or the next or it would all go out the window.

Normally takes at least 48 hrs. (2 business days) for changes to be posted from AZ to any of the online TAs. With the long holiday weekend, give it until
Wednesday to check back. By that time, the revisions should be reflected.

Yes, a call to AZ confirmed the correct itinerary as Orbitz shows it. ^

With an on-time arrival, spending 2 (maybe 3) hours in central Milan is well possible. And the round-trip need not cost more than around 10-12 euros (if taking the bus). Just make sure to budget 1.15 hours each way and know the schedule in advance. (And if you want to take a shower, the AZ lounge on the non-Schengen side has two shower+toilet rooms; just make sure to ask for a shower kit at the lounge desk or you'll be drying up with paper towels.)

You can credit to AZ, or DL. Some participants in this thread don't believe that the latter is feasible, but it works well, see post #6 in this (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=565508) thread.

I've been following the thread and searched around, but I am not 100% sure if I have my calculations correct. Can anyone please confirm that I have the following scenarios correct:

Being NWA Gold and wanting to credit my YYZ-LCA flights to NWA Worldperks, I would earn (RT):
YYZ-MXP*
Flight Mileage
8,238 miles EQM
Biz Bonus
4,119 miles
Gold Bonus
8,238 miles
Total
20,595 miles
* This is YYZ to MXP only, since I am not supposed to be able to credit the MXP-LCA segment

Then credit the LCA segment to AZ Millemiglia:
MXP-LCA*
Flight Mileage
3,004 miles EQM
Millemiglia Biz Bonus
3,004 miles
Total
6,008 miles
* Based on NWA's mileage calculator

The other option is to go all in on AZ's program and get:
YYZ-LCA*
Flight Mileage
11,186 miles EQM
Millemiglia Biz Bonus
11,186 miles
Total
22,372 miles
* Based on NWA's mileage calculator

Does the methodology and math look right?

Thanks!

I am in the middle of my first Cyprus run.
I gave my NW number to AZ, doesn't seem to be any "bad blood" problem,
and credit for YYZ-MXP appeared within 2 days:
4119 EQMs ^
2060 Silver 50% bonus ^
2060 Class of Service Bonus. ^

My interest now is where to put the credit for MXP-LCA-MXP,
above posts indicate it can gozinta a DL account fine,
which I find more interesting than starting a new balance with MM.

You can solve that problem by making some sort of change (dates, flights, stopovers) and getting the tickets reissued by Alitalia. The reissued tickets are on Alitalia stock so NW will never know you originally purchased them from CheapTickets.

There is also a 1000 mile bonus for new Millemiglia members who fly within three months of registration, making the AZ total 23,372.

Our trip is just over the 3 months since registration, so I would need to start a new account to get the signup bonus.

My son's miles will be credited to DL since he has 12.5k in his account now and AZ does allow members under age 18 anyway. I'm undecided between crediting my miles to DL or AZ, but leaning towards DL. Even though 23,372 with AZ is nearly enough for a partner award for coach within the US, adding 12-16k (depending on the CY segs posting) to the 48.5k already in my DL account would get more miles consolidated into one account.

Usually they will let you go standby if you miss your flight, or with United I'm thinking that 25 dollar confirmed standby fee will help you out as well.

If it is the last flight of the day, they probably will let you go standby the next day, but if worst comes to worst, that is what travel insurance is for. :)

Thats intresting. I never even thought about the rental car and driving in another country and we were planning on renting a car. I guess I need to call some rental car companies.

For a hire car, I'd suggest booking on AutoEurope first.
1) Their reservations are all 100% cancellable and refundable.
2) If you find a better rate somewhere else, they'll match that price. You just have to remember where you were going to book (don't do it yet, unless that company also has a forgiving refund policy), tell them, they'll research, and then get back to you.

Currently I have a week long rental in a small automatic with AC, CDW, TP, fire, theft (all the insurances I need, really) for $282 USD - they even got Europcar to agree to come pick up the vehicle at my hotel for no extra charge. This was on a price match. I'll have to look through my paperwork for the company whose price they matched 'cuz I don't remember.

Hotel pick-up is due to what I arranged for myself there:
I pick up the vehicle in LCA, drive to Nicosia for 3 nights, drive to Kathikas for a traditional home stay for 4 nights, drive to hotel in Larnaca. I'm staying 4 more nights in Larnaca, but decided I didn't need a car for that stretch.

BTW, my NY license has been good enough for every car rental have had in every other country I've visited. AFAIK, the int'l drivers license is handy only for those places where the cops and other officials don't normally understand english (I've been to a number of countries like that but haven't rented a car in any of them).

The Hotel I am talking of is the Hotel Pantelia in Protaras, which (at least in Germany) can be booked through TUI, one of the biggest Tour Operators here. Rates for my dates in July are 57 Euro per Person for the studio unit or 64 Euro for the 1 Bedroom unit. Can be booked with any TUI-affilated travel-agent in Germany, or online e.g. at http://www.travelchannel.de

As to renting a car, that is my current choice, however the Minivan we require is running around 400€ for the one week I am there. That is a lot of money compared to what I am used to over in the USA, so I am looking for alternatives. However, if you decide to rent a car, be aware that Larnaca is left-side driving, so if you are not used to that it can be confusing at least...;-)!

An international drivers licence is usually only required if your licence does not use the Roman alphabet e.g. is printed in Arabic / Chinese characters etc. An American visiting Cyprus won't have any problems with their licence.

There are public busses between
a) Larnaca Airport and Larnaca
b) Larnaca and the main cities

Be aware there are NO busses on Sundays !

I don't know anything about the prices. There is a schedule online http://www.intercitybuses.com/

Jun 12, 06, 4:38 pm
The best option for cheap intercity travel is a shared taxi, they call it "service taxi". It's a minibus which takes up to 8 passengers. It will pick you up anywhere in the city and drop you off anywhere in another city. The travel time will be longer than the regular taxi because it will pick up and drop off passengers at different locations. The service taxi can take you to the aiport but it won't pick you up at the airport though, you can take a cab to Larnaca and then take service taxi if you need to go to the different city from there. Ask the cab driver to take you to the service taxi location in Larnaca.

Check the rates here: http://www.travelexpress.com.cy/

For example, Larnaca-Protaras is only CYP 4,00 + cab from LCA to Larnaka.
Protaras to LCA is CYP 5,50.

There are public busses between
a) Larnaca Airport and Larnaca
b) Larnaca and the main cities

Be aware there are NO busses on Sundays !

I don't know anything about the prices. There is a schedule online http://www.intercitybuses.com/

Eman Travel (http://www.emantravel.com/article.php?id=77) operates intercity buses on all days of the week including Sundays (limited Sunday schedule, however).

For those who have already flown, how long is it taking to see miles show up in a partner airline account?

www.itn.net (http://www.itn.net) always showed the availablity in all flights and all classes (i.e. also the D inventory).

This feature has gone. Where can one still look up D class availability on AZ flights for free?

Would someone be so kind as to please post a response to my question about EQM's, post #6895?

Thank You,

LAXPlat -

Regarding your post - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5911286&postcount=6895 - I believe the Class of Service bonus does bank as EQMs. You get the base miles of 4119 + CoS bonus miles of 2060 & that's a total of 6179 EQMs & you should also earn that many as banked miles too, before earning any elite bonuses. I believe elite bonuses are off of the base miles (the 4119) although I don't know as I've never actually bought a fare that would earn them.

I'm not sure how they posted, but that's how I imagine & expect them to post.

Is this the experience for those of you who have already had miles posted from these fares?

On another topic, how do you get the "originally posted by..." message to show up when you place the quote tags in a post?

You can hit the Reply with Quote button or type the quote as (leaving the spaces out of what's in red):

[ quote = USERNAME ] Text that you're quoting [ / quote ]

And it should look like this:

were u actually able to book it? when i used the AA CDP, it showed me the price for the rav4 then told me i had to call up to book it. i called hertz intl and they took my info and said they have to call cyprus to reserve it and they would get back to me by friday...

r

Regarding Rental Cars - Hertz has some pretty decent rates using various corporate CDPs. I don't want to share my company's name or CDP, but it got me a 35% discount & a 4-day automatic Toyota Rav4 rental is 78 CYP all-in & my company doesn't currently do business in Cyprus as far as I know. Try using corporate CDPs with Hertz if you have them.

Which airline are you crediting to?

By 8 days with NW, I'm usually faxing in a mileage request.

They have to do this with all of their Cyprus reservations. I have had to do this twice (I needed to change the reservation) and there was no problem getting the request confirmed. They called back 3 days later with the same price as I was quoted originally.

If you're NW Gold or Plat, I'd fax to the special Elite Fax number... they often post the same day (though is there a mandatory waiting period for partner flights? I'm not sure, but there could be).

Into which airline(s)'s frequent flyer program(s) were you trying to credit those flight segments. Even AZ's way-out stations have been efficient with crediting my DL, NW and CO accounts. After day 10, I'd fax in and request the miles.

I gave them my Delta card on both the outbound and return.

I am accustomed to my airline number being shown on the boarding card; it was not in either direction.

The Hertz in LCA is a independent operator - as stated earlier, Hertz has to call LCA & confirm availability and then they will call you with the confirmation number & they will also send you a paper reservation statement in the mail.

I've been issued many AZ boarding passes that didn't have any indication of DL/DL account number/SkyTeam status printed on the boarding pass and yet generally almost always gotten the miles to post in the time frame mentioned above. Out of the 20 or so boarding passes where AZ reps said that my DL number was noted but no such indication was printed on the boarding passes in the last year or so, all but 2 flights credited without a hitch. However, wheneven no indication of DL/SkyTeam status was printed out on the boarding pass at check-in, I then always asked them to double check that the DL number was entered into the system properly. The only time I didn't ask them to double check out of those 20 or so cases was where I didn't ask anything at all.

Anyone have an experience where the flights weren't automatically reinstated as booked and then when you called to check they weren't available? I'm scheduled to leave 6/23 and have all the flights but the Alitalia ones! And they look like they're sold out. What happens now? I just called Nicolo to check on the situation.

Do you have paper tickets? If so, you should be in good shape.

Nicolo will figure something out for you, I'm sure.

Being in New York for a few days , I took the time to make an appointment and visit with Nicolo today. (with a gift of course ;) )

The man is simply charming. He is intellegent, wellspoken, and very interested in making sure that everyone is able to travel. His stack of notepads from dealing with the 600+ Ft'ers is impressive.

He really needs to be applauded for the work he is doing for us. ^

....this is at all car rentals in LCA, when you see the parking area for rental cars you will understand why...no one checks the cars for damage or gas...so they will only give you the option of prepaying and bringing the car back as empty as possible...cost me 33 CYP for the prepay.
