In the FT community opinion, do I need to send Nicolo my tickets after all or should I be ok to travel? I will not be near another AZ ticket office until my day of travel, June 17. What should I do?

I would send the tickets to Nic and have them reissued.

I spoke to Nicolo on the 16th and got my my date change completed. I inquired as to AZ MIA ticket hours and was told they are open 11:00 - 16:00 at MIA M-F. This morning, I fly in to MIA on CO and go to the ticket counter at 11:20 and there is no one there. I call RES and am told that they should have opened at 11:00. At 11:40, an employee walks to the back room and another pax asks him in Italian what time they will open. He responds 12:30. I guess 11:00 AZ = 12:30 Eastern time

I am the 1st pax helped at 12:30. I inform the agent that my ticket is properly notated and that I am here to complete my date change. All she does is print me out on computer paper a copy of my revised itinerary. She also advises me that I can have no further date changes which I accept.

I again ask for my tickets to be reissued/stickered. She goes to the back to double check and comes back out again saying that this is all I need.

Below is the contents of the printout:

Meal not provided?

I guess it refers to flight # 2.MXP-FCO where there's no meal served.Only drinks and pretzels or the like.

No one has suggested getting stickered after confirming a change with Nicolo, on the day of your flight. Either go to your local AZ ATO wellin advance of your flight. Or if you are not in an AZ market, send your ticket to Nicolo to get stickered.

Waiting to the flight date to get stickered is asking for trouble, especially since Nicolo has been specifically desiganated as the FT go-to-guy.

I have my Original Tickets that I booked with Orbitz way back when and have no changes to be made at all. Do I still need to get them stickered or will it be fine if I just show up at YYZ ready for my vacation

Thanks

Based on your YYZ-MXP-LAC itin.....
* date changes OK
* stopovers OK

* dropping LCA either direction not OK
* routing changes not OK

Didn't mean to come across sounding terse!! Anyhow, most thorough info indeed on page 1, 3rd post I think!

no, no......thank you so much for the help, I honestly probably should have looked a little more first just with so much info.....agh!!!

Thanks again :)

Checked Baggage
Cyprus Airways allows a free allowance of checked baggage which does not exceed 20 kgs for passengers travelling in the Economy Class and 30 kgs for passengers travelling in Business Class. Infants traveling on a 10% fare are entitled a free allowance of 10 Kgs.

Im going for a month so I will be taking two bags. Hopefully two bags on all segments will be ok. I hate to travel so heavy.

So here is a question, hopefully someone can answer...

I bought these Business Class tickets (D Fare Class), but Nicolo put me in Y on the CY segments (my paper tickets still show D Fare Class, but Y seating).

Question: will I still earn 200% EQMs with AZ for these CY flights even though I am not sitting in F?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Dear UCSBCHRIS2002,

We need to speak with you regarding your reservation. Please contact
CheapTickets immediately at 1.888.922.8849.

Did anyone else get this? I guess it is time to change my ticket with Nicolo!

Another Question:

I currently have Sept. 1st LCA-MXP
Sept. 2nd MXP-FCO-YYZ

Is it possible to change the MXP-FCO to Sept. 1st and have FCO-YYZ on Sept. 2nd?? I have a short connection and I want to fix it.

Hmmm. My re-issued tickets show both Y seating and Y fare basis for the LCA segments. Since you basically agreed to sitting in Y for those segments, you can't make the case for earning J COS on a voluntary downgrade. I guess we'll find out once someone gets their FFP statement after flying. But, keep your hopes down!

first time posting on this thread but I've been following it intensely.

my story
I was one of the lucky 500 to actaully book and get ticket #'s on this deal. I booked through Orbitz.
Of course, when the ticket showed as cancelled I paniced and called to find out what was going on. Was told AZ wasn't honouring the tickets and they'd be happy to do a complimentary cancellation for me - basically told there were no other options available. so, I went along with it. You can imagine my dismay when I heard AZ would honour bookings that had recieved ticket #'s!

I called Orbitz imediately and quietly insisted that I should be reinstated. after being passed from person to person, being placed on hold while different parties discussed the situation, I was told that yes, we will do that for you. yippee!! Now, that was back in early April and week after week I've called to inquire as to where my tickets are, why ticket numbers aren't showing up on orbitz, etc. and was always told "we're busy", "we'll get to it", "you're not traveling until August".

Last week I called and after being passed from person to person (including being misunderstood and being transfered to UPS!), I was told, you should hear from us in June - JUNE! crazy.

All that, and then, miraculously, the ticket numbers reappeared on Orbitz and on Friday when I arrived home from work, there was a UPS package waiting for me!

My Thanks
Thank you flyertalk folks for the original post alerting me to the sale and then to all the subsequent posts that encouraged me to fight the good fight to press on to get the tickets reinstated. without this kid of a deal, i figure it would be another 3 or more years before I'd get to visit europe - and now, I get to do it in style!

My Questions
I did another read through and a quick search becuase I thought the answers to these couple of questions would be somewhere in the 6000+ posts, but I couldn't readily find the answers:

My tickets say seat assignments will be made upon check-in - if I call Nic, will he be able to assign seats? (I'm marginally concerned if we don't have seat assignments, we'll end up in economy)
What would be the best reward program to use for the milage accumulation? I'm in Canada and 99% of my travelling is solely in North America - Should I use AZ? or would NWA or Continental be better suited to me? ( I know there was a disucssion on this but, as I'm new to this, I'm more than a little confused)

Again, thank you to all who've posted their stories and advice - it's really helped me!

For seat assignments call the regular Alitalia toll-free number. (No need to bury our AZ angel with routine matters like that which are better and faster handled by AZ reps at the call centers.)

You won't lose your seat in biz just because you don't have seat assignments. And in any event, seat assignments are not a guarantee that you get your seat assignment with any airline. If they are oversold in business, you will be provided rich compensation like any other normal biz-fare passenger. Enjoy your trip and don't worry about it.

About the frequent flyer miles, I can only say I'd not use CO's program and would go for AZ's, DL's, NW's programs first.

Any word yet on interlining at JFK from AA to Alitalia? What are the odds AA at YYZ will issue ongoing boarding passes for a JFK-FCO segment? (I say very small, but I'd like to confirm my suspicions.)

Please don't flame me. I would really like to avoid the AA YYZ-JFK segment and just fly out of JFK but I'm fully willing to do so if I have to. But if AA isn't going to issue me an AZ boarding pass at YYZ then it's a good bet the YYZ-JFK segment could be avoided and saving me buying a oneway to YYZ.

Opinions?

(Before I get a stream of people telling me how the rest of my itinerary could be cancelled because I missed the first segment let me say I understand fully that concept.)

May 23, 06, 12:44 pm
EWR - YYZ is pricing at $337 all in on Travelocity, that is $100 cheaper than CO.com or Orbitz. Not a bad fare, all things considered. United has similar prices.

Anyone know if CO has a price match policy/ guarantee? I did a cursory review CO.com and no luck finding anything.

Yes, and a one way LGA-YYZ on Air Canada is coming in around $160 priced at various sites.

Whether AA can issue AZ boarding passes is beside the point, more than once I've asked an agent not to check me all the way through on a connecting itinerary without difficulty.

The question you're really asking is, "If I pull the first flight coupon from the ticket myself and present myself at JFK for checkin, will AZ know that I haven't flown the YYZ-JFK segment?"

The fare rules certainly require you to fly the segment, you know the risks from not flying the segment, etc. So your purely technical question is, will AZ be aware of whether you've flown the segment or not?

I thinki I know the answer to this, but since my knowledge on the subject is far from perfect or up-to-date I suppose I'll shut up and wait for someone who knows the answer to better educate you..!

starting in jfk is not a possibility, not 'very small', not even remote! if you attempt, your ticket will be, not 'could' be cancelled. not worth the risk.

I'm hoping the fare basis makes the difference.

And interestingly, some of the tickets I bought (family) say D class (in addition to fare basis) on the MXP-LCA, LCA-FCO segments; even though Nicolo said we would all be in Y.

 Um, you guys really are no fun. :D

Look, I'll take your advice to heart and be safe but to be honest I think most well-seasoned FT'ers really do know the reality of the situation and that with a carrier change such as this that the chances of onward cancellation are exceedingly small. Perhaps you have some experience in this type of situation, but the airlines have enough trouble knowing what goes on during their own flights, much less an interline connection at a huge airport like JFK. I'm not entirely certain that your fairly absolute attitude towards the situation is merited.

Looks to me like the LCA-FCO/MXP flights all leave before the FCO/MXP-LCA flights arrive. So a same-day turn at LCA would not be possible.

Presumably same aircraft flights LCA-FCO/MXP and then returns to LCA. Since you're going to be starting out on the aircraft's return flight you're not going to be able to get back to Italy same day.

One night minimum stay is going to be required in LCA, not as a function of the fare rules but as a function of schedules. (And remember that FCO/MXP-LCA and v.v. does not operate daily, so depending on which day you fly you could wind up there for more than a day... bear this in mind also when booking nested tickets to CAI, TLV, etc..)

There is no minimum stay requirement, but you'll be forced to overnight due to the schedule. Fwiw, my original ticket doesn't even allow a stopover in LCA because I booked a turnaround in less than 24 hours (i.e., YYZ-xFCO-xLCA-oMXP-YYZ).

Sorry if I came across a bit too stern!!!

I think that it pays to be prudent and not attempt your leaving ex-JFK instead of ex-YYZ for two reasons.

1. Any AZ agent who pulls up your record at JFK will see all the notations about the 'mistake fare', 'one change only', 'no re-routes', etc. and I am quite confident that you will not be given the benefit of the doubt for not having started in YYZ. These tickets have 'red flag' written all over them!!!!

2. If you are successful on leaving ex-JFK< you still run the risk that AZ catches the oversight in their post-flight audit, and conceivably they could try and charge you based on a re-price out of JFK, which ain't $33!!! Since you didn't have an involuntary reason for missing the YYZ-JFK flight, you'd have little defense against a retroactive reprice. Admittedly, this is a remote possibility.

Overall, you have seen how crazy this situation was before Nicolo was injected into the process. Once he;s gone, I would expect similar craziness from AZ if you (or ANYONE) tries to do anything that is different than what is printed on their ticket.

Again, I'm not trying to play cop or conscience or spoilsport; I just think we should savor this opportunity as is, and not try and push the limits beyond whatever success you've had with Nicolo on your one time change.

Whatever you decide, fly safe.......from YYZ (or JFK)

1) Nobody seems to know whether any date changes after departure are possible. Is it safe to say they are not?

2) Anyone have suggestions about a cheap way to get to DXB? Flights seem to be in the $500 range from LCA even though Emirates had a direct flight.

Thanks for any insight!

A quick question for you as I see you are online and very knowledgable and helpful.

Will I be ok to just show up at YYZ with my tickets in hand in July?

Thanks

Still call Nicolo just to make sure that AZ didn't cancel your tickets. There is apparently some kind of 'communication' problem bw Orbitz and AZ Software, that might (very unlikely) have Orbitz showing confirmed and AZ showing cancelled. Should be a painless safeguard to call Nic just to be sure that you are good to go!!

Probably provided that you Orbitz itinerary online continues to match your paper tickets.

But to be safe, there would be absolutely no harm in contacting Mr. Cimilluca. He can e-mail you a confirmation of your flights which should give you total peace of mind.

I found something strange on My Trips on Cheap Tickets. For some reason on the Cheap Tickets website most of my flights are all on one day Aug 3rd. When I go to Galileo Viewtrip website it shows the correct days but for some reason CT has it all lumped together on one day. Does anyone else have the same thing show up on CT website?? It is some kind of error and when I call will they have the correct dates or will I have to tell them to add segments to different days??

The date changes you made with Nicolo should appear on your CT itin along with any other extraneous segments that you did not authorize. You just filter out the incorrect dates and have CT leave your revised dates intact. If you just made your changes with Nicolo, then it won't show up on CT for about 48 hours. If its already been 48 hrs and still no revised itin has shown up on CT, call Nicolo.

The segments show up but for some reason they are all lumped into Aug 3rd.

Some of these flights were my original flights and others are my new flights but the date has changed. Some of these flights are for July 27th, Aug 31st but they are all lumped under August 3rd.

Yeah it is really strange. When I go to Galileo Viewtrip it shows the correct dates for the segments so I wonder if the website is just messed up and CT really has the correct dates.

For everyone with Orbitz itins -

I made my changes this morning with Nicolo. Got what I wanted and had no problems there. Per his instructions, "contact Orbitz and have them cancel the unwanted segments." I did just that, first got transferred from the idiot help desk to the international specialist. He insisted he couldn't do what I was asking for and I gave him Nicolo's number. We finally had a conference call (all 3 of us) and the unwanted segments were finally cancelled.

To verify you're "unwanted" segments are cancelled, on Orbitz at least, is to view your itinerary and make sure the ONLY flights listed are the ones you intend to take. In my case, I changed my return from August 8th to August 9th with 5 days in Milan - so in my case all the flights on August 8th are no longer visible.

Goodluck!

The final status of your ticket is dependent on AZ. So, if you have a re-booked paper ticket from Nic, you are definitely good to go. Deleting unwanted segments from CT, Orbitz, etc. is really a formality to eliminate potential confusion of multiple itins popping up on the 'My Views' of CT, Orbitz. Again, Nic can conference calll with you to CT, if helpful.

Ditto. As long as there's no detriment to having the segment there, I won't bother. Orbitz made it clear to most that they wouldn't do anything, and that anything to do with these tix would need to be done by AZ, and AZ has done what's needed.

Made changes with Nicolo and sent him my Cheaptickets ticket last week. And today I received the final printed ticket from him. So I dont care what viewtrip or cheaptickets show. I am flying on that Alitalia issued ticket. I will be flying YYZ-MXP-LCA-MXP-YYZ on June 30 returning July 5th with stopover in MXP (Tuscany side trip). Wishing everyone a nice trip.

I'm not contacting Orbitz at all. When these sort of things happened to me before, the airline always trumps the travel agent and the travel agents can only mess up things. :)

When you have your new reservations from Nicollo you definitely SHOULD contact Orbitz to have them remove the old, cancelled flights from their system.

Orbitz has been going through and cancelling changes made by Nicollo. You don't want them to do that. You'll wind up at the airport with no reservation at all. Or, even if caught in time, there may no longer be availability on your flights.

Once you make changes via Nicollo, Orbitz will display BOTH sets of flights in your itinerary. You do NOT want this situation to persist. And apparently the only way to fix it is a call to Orbitz.

I went through one of those calls myself this morning. No problems at all.

Rang up the Orbitz VIP phone #, so no waiting on hold. Got someone on the line, explained that I had made changes to the flight with Alitalia but the old flights still appeared in the Orbitz system and that these old flights needed to be removed.

After being put on hold the task was accomplished without difficulty, all in all no more than 6-7 minutes.

And well worth the effort.

I made my changes with Nic, and had tickets reissued at IAD. Based on the previous few posts, decided to check My Trips in Orbitz in preparation to call to discard unwanted segment. Orbitz shows two YYZ-MXP flight bookings on Nov. 18, each booked in economy. Nic HAD booked YYZ-MXP in economy, but corrected it and emailed new itin. Tix issued show D.

Do I need to be concerned with what Orbitz shows in this case? My tickets and res. in AZ's system show D. Just wondering. Don't want to prompt orbitz to do something to screw this up by cancelling the wrong one.

thanks.

Ultimately all that matters is what's in AZ's system, the part about passively cancelling segments is so that Orbitz/Cheaptickets/etc. don't go about messing with segments in AZ's system that you are planning to fly.

If you have a flight correct in AZ's system and all that is wrong on the Orbitz side is the class of service then you probably don't need to tell Orbitz to do anything -- but I'd ask Nicollo!

Well, I called Nicolo in the early afternoon, and was surprised to actually talk to him instead of the voice mail.

I wanted a two day stopover for the family to check out Rome. Only coach tickets available LCA-FCO, no biggie there. However, Nicolo said I *had* to ditch the FCO-BOS-YYZ if I wanted to change the LCA-FCO portions. I had to be routed FCO-MXP-YYZ, with a fairly early morning departure, but I guess that's the price you pay for having a stopover. At least we'll get into Toronto at a decent hour.

I'll still have to wait 2 weeks before I can change my other ticket (to an early April 2007), as those dates aren't loaded in the computer yet.

I just told CT that changes were made by Alitalia and they were showing outdated segments and the agent made a note "Not to touch reservation" as changes were made by the carrier.. about a week or two later, correct segments appeared on viewtrip and CT.

So one thing is for sure.. if you take no action, you wont see changes on CT or viewtrip right away.

For those of us who have accepted economy class seating on one or both of the LCA-Italy segments because the "D" bucket has been zeroed out, will we be able to waitlist for business class seating on those flights and/or claim a business class seat if Alitalia adjusts the "D" inventory to reflect "D1" or more in the future?

So i purchased the business class fare on Alitalia from toronto to Cyprus with orbitz.com. I received the confirmation page and confirmation number stating that my flight was reserved. Orbitz charges my credit card for 60 some odd dollars (I am assuming that do that with the initial credit card charge) and then immediatly refunded the money when they found out about the fare error. Aparently, they did this before they issued my paper tickets.

I called Orbitz to say i did not want a refund, i want them to honor my reservation and they said that I have to contact Alitalia as they are ones that cancelled my ticket reservation. I called Nicolo with Alitalia and he said since they never issued my tickets, I have no claim with either Alitalia or Orbitz. Is this true? Am I simply out of luck?

This does not see fair as I do not want a refund, never requested a refund, and I had recieved the standard confirmation page with the "keep this for your records" command. If i am in fact out of luck, what the heck is the point of the confirmation page?

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Did you already have routing through FCO? I would like to see if I can change my routing to YYZ-FCO and add a Rome stopover. I believe some people have had success doing this, but thought I would check before calling Nicolo tomorrow.

What I have:
8/8: YYZ-MXP-LCA
8/12: LCA-MXP
8/16: MXP-YYZ

What I'd like:

8/6: YYZ-FCO
8/9: FCO-LCA
8/12: LCA-MXP
8/18: MXP-YYZ

Is this asking too much? My mom mentioned she's really like to see Rome if possible, and extending the return date works better as well for what we want to do in Tuscany/Provence. Will this fly with Nicolo?

What I'd like:

8/6: YYZ-FCO

8/12: LCA-MXP
8/18: MXP-YYZ

This routing is perfectly acceptable, but availability is going to be difficult.

8/6 YYZ-FCO -- shows D4 ^

8/9 FCO-LCA -- there's no FCO-LCA non-stop on Wed, so you'd have to go FCO-MXP-LCA (or FCO-LIN/MXP-LCA, etc). But the AZ codeshare MXP-LCA flight is showing sold out. :td: Can you head to LCA on 8/8? If so, you can keep your current MXP-LCA segment and add FCO-MXP..

8/12: LCA-MXP -- fortunately you already have this segment, so you get to keep it... ^

8/18: MXP-YYZ -- shows D7 ^

So the only issue is going to be getting to Cyprus... easiest if you can keep the segment you already have on 8/8.

Availability for certain date ranges this summer is very tight -- even in coach -- for the AZ codeshare.

I made an appiontment to meet him in his office on Thursday. What a nice office Alitalia has (Empire State building 47th floor)! In less than 15 minutes he had new tickets for us on Alitalia stock :)

Original tickets:
YYZ-MXP-LCA (D)
LCA-MXP-YYZ (Y) (nasty 23 hr layover in MXP)

New changes:
YYZ-FCO, (D) 5 days in Rome
FCO-LCA, (Y) 3 days on Cyprus

MXP-YYZ (D)

Nicolo told me that AZ zeroed out the "D" inventory temporarily to protect space on everyone's original itinerary so that nobody who had business class originally on the Italy/LCA segments would lose out on their seat due to another person rebooking on their travel date. ^

However, it now appears that AZ is deliberately leaving keeping things at "D0" so it can rebook us all in economy (and presumably save money) if we choose to change dates. :td:

As I asked a couple of pages ago, I wonder if will we be able to waitlist for business class seating on those flights and/or claim a business class seat if Alitalia adjusts the "D" inventory to reflect "D1" or more in the future. No one is being booted out of business class on any segment where D inventory is available. You're certainly not going to be forced to fly YYZ-FCO/MXP in coach when discount business inventory is available.

If you choose a flight that has no D inventory then you'll have to fly coach (provided that coach is available, of course).

The actual time-in-the-air from MXP/FCO-LAC is approx. 3 hours. While D would be nice, keep in mind on most intra-Europe flights, Business Class seat quality, pitch and configuration, as well as in-flight service are really only marginally better than Coach Class. Basically, you are in FRONT of the curtain instead of behind it!!!!!!!!!

And CY has not received any exemplary raves from the airline industry or consumer feedback sites like http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/cyprus.htm

So, enJoy J on the TATL portions!!!

so on their system I still have: YYZ-FCO, YYZ-FCO next day, FCO-LCA,

I finally gave up and hung up after over an hour - they acknowledge that
what they have in their system is impossible, but they will not change.

Nicolo told me the same thing. My original booking was YYZ-MXP in D class, then MXP-LCA in Y. My revised itinerary has me going YYZ-FCO in D, and FCO-LCA in Y. I asked whether I could upgrade to D should that class become available for the FCO-LCA flight, and was told no, since I was originally booked in Y for that segment...
My return flight (LCA-FCO) was preserved in D, since my original booking was LCA-MXP in D. Our flight is in early September.

I tried this yesterday - went through 4 people, including supervisor and
international desk. All of them refused to remove the extra segments,
so on their system I still have: YYZ-FCO, YYZ-FCO next day, FCO-LCA,
FCO-LCA 2 days later, etc, etc.

I finally gave up and hung up after over an hour - they acknowledge that
what they have in their system is impossible, but they will not change.

I'll rely on AZ's system.

Call Nicolo and have him conference call with Orbitz.

Got 50 Bucks? Fly to Fiji

A look inside the world of obsessive Web watchers who pounce on fare errors

S****** M*******, a 37-year-old lawyer at Microsoft near Seattle, was thrilled recently to find a mistaken fare online for flights to Europe -- just $33 plus taxes. He quickly booked trips for himself and his wife in July, August and Thanksgiving week. The catch: The flights are to Larnaca, Cyprus. From Toronto.

"I just figure we'll get to Toronto somehow," Mr. M****** says. He and his wife plan to be on Long Island, N.Y., in mid-July anyway, so what's a slight detour to the Mediterranean via Canada? Mr. M****** knows little about Larnaca, but as he's hoping to take at least two of the trips they've booked, he'll be getting to know it well.

For Mr. M****** and a cadre of other hard-core travel bargain-hunters on the Internet, the journey mainly is about saving breathtaking amounts of money -- never mind the destination. Mr. M****** found his Cyprus deal on a travelers' Web site called FlyerTalk.com, where he saw a message that Italian airline Alitalia was offering "wickedly low" business-class fares on the route.

There's a loose network of obsessives who keep apprised of prices not just on mainstream travel sites like Travelocity, but also on a growing number of other sites that specialize in detecting "unusual" prices across the Web. Many are mistakes, from a round-trip Los Angeles-to-Fiji excursion for $51 to a Holiday Inn resort room in Thailand for three cents a night....

...The online epicenter of travel-deal discovery is FlyerTalk, a sort of methadone clinic for frequent-flyer and hotel-stay program addicts. In its highly trafficked message forums, users exchange tips, strategies, news of the latest travel promotions, and the best ways to achieve and maintain "elite" status in various programs. They also pass along reports of pricing errors....

Hmm, that is unusual.

You actually have three options, depending on how motivated and/or paranoid you are feeling!!!!!

1. Since your original itin, NOT your revised itin is showing up on Orbitz, there is no risk that Orbitz will mess with your reservation because as far as Orbitz can tell, you don't have any duplicate or conflicting itins. So, you could just do nothing.

2. Your revised itin really should be showing up on Orbitz, so its possible it could pop back up sometime before your trip. If that happens, there is an increased risk that Orbitz could try and mess around with your itin.
So, you could check Orbitz daily. If the revised itin doesn't show up, you are OK. If it does show up, then call Orbitz to have the original itin deleted.

3. Call Nicolo 212-903-3571 and have him conference call with Orbitz to make sure that they have the SAME info as AZ. This is the most effort and most effective.

Good luck! Travel safe.

As opposed to those of you born knowing this stuff? I kept my D class on LCA-FCO, and was even MOVED from Y to D on MXP-LCA on my new dates of travel - I firmly but politely insisted on this when I dealt with AZ YYZ/NYC and acceded to the new fare rule terms.

probably right about there not being a huge difference between J and D....it is the principle! lol

Let's hope so! The main thing is that after a USA Today article, or other exposure in the media, there is usually 2 weeks of, "I want my $33 ticket, are there any today"? They don't realize that this, er, hobby, takes a lot of work, and to be up on the deals, you need to check online at least 2-3 times a day.

I know that often, when I'm flying for 20 or more hours and offline, I will miss some good deals.

I hadn't gotten around to contacting Nicolo about the fact that my new itinerary (changed by Mr. Pepe) never appeared at Orbitz/Mytripandmore. But sometime in the last couple of days, the new segments were added and the old and wrong segments were removed, except the BOS-YYZ AA flight that I was allowed to drop before Rome clamped down. I'll leave it alone since it should look good to Orbitz -- probably even better that the real itineray.

One question remains. Mr. Pepe booked the LCA-FCO flight into fare class I. I assumed this was business class, but Mytripandmore interprets it as coach. I'll ask AZ when I call for seat assignments on the transatlantic segments, but does anyone know if AZ uses I for biz or coach?

Normally takes at least 48 hrs. (2 business days) for changes to be posted from AZ to any of the online TAs. With the long holiday weekend, give it until
Wednesday to check back. By that time, the revisions should be reflected.

I've started my LCA trip. First off, in Toronto AZ business class uses the AC lounges. They're nice, lots of free food (veggies w/ dip, snacks, olives, pickles, etc.), and lots of pretty good free alcohol. There are two lounges, one in Terminal 1 and one near the airplane (at a different terminal). Two big screen TVs and free wi-fi. Not too shabby.

Regarding check-in, we decided to go strictly carryon but it still has been somewhat sketchy at the ticket counter. The agent kept saying that she "has never seen anything like this before" (my tickets/itinerary) and couldn't figure out why she couldn't assign me seats for the CY tickets. In the end she gave up on assigning seats for CY flights saying I "should" be OK b/c I'm checked-in. Don't misunderstand, she was very courteous and professional. Also I should mention that even after careful scrutiny from multiple agents none of them seemed to recognize this now famous fare.

As probably stated before you do have to go through customs if flying into YYZ from the states. It took about 30 seconds though... but the airport itself is not easy to travel around. You have to take a bus just about everytime you want to get anywhere.

As long as you were originally ticketed MXP-BOS-YYZ, Nicolo will reinstate it. However, AZ will not drop the BOS-YYZ segment even though it makes financial sense for them.

So, if you choose not to fly the last leg BOS-YYZ, that is your decision....just be discreet!!!!

Also, if you choose to drop the BOS-YYZ, you might consider not checking your bags, because AZ will likely frown on only sending your bags to BOS instead of YYZ. And, you don't want to tip off AZ that you will not be flying the BOS-YYZ sector, as they could hit you with a re-price (unlikely, but at least be aware).

you can check your bags all the way through to YYZ no problem. you will have to pick them up in boston no matter what (US laws for transit passengers) and recheck them, so you can just pick them up and walk out of the airport with them, its nto a problem at all, ive done it before...

I tried to be discreet when telling Nicolo that AZ
would not have to worry about the last leg,
maybe too much so since they went ahead and changed things !
But I expect you are correct that this can be fixed tomorrow.

Interesting regarding bags.
I will have them in BOS after clearing customs,
I planned to simply not re-check them.
I had not thought about any bag-matching issues on this int'l leg, though.

I'm pretty sure you can check them all the way through. In BOS you will have to go through customs and most likely will get your bags back for that. I believe the BOS-YYZ flight is considered "domestic" for customs purposes.

The best rate I've seen for a rental car with an automatic transmission is 21.25 CYP per day (27.00 CYP less an online discount) available from Thrifty Cyprus (http://www.thrifty.com.cy/).

I'm torn as to whether I should rent a car or not. Since I'm staying in Agia Napa (three nights total), the taxi fare each way is almost equal to the cost of a one day car rental. So I'd really only wind up paying one extra day's worth of difference for the luxury of having my own ride.

What's holding me back is a general concern about driving on the wrong side of the road, which I have never done before. Also, I don't know how easy it is to get around Cyprus by car (in terms of navigation). Finally, I wonder if finding cheap or free parking will be too much of a hassle. If anybody has any thoughts on driving in Cyprus for the American traveler, I'd love to hear them.

I have heard that driving is the way to get around the island as they seem to have a poor public transit system. They have no rail, and a very unreliable bus network. I have also been warned to stay away from renting the tiny suzuki's and go for a larger toyota as the smaller cars (very small micro cars) tend to have a max speed of 50mph. I have also heard that the rental cars take a beating in Cyprus and that you should be sure to test the brakes before accepting the car.

Driving isn't too different from other places in Southern Europe. Not as chaotic as Italy, but of course with the added challenge of driving on the "wrong" side of the road. Driving in rural areas is not difficult, but cities can be challenging. It really all depends on whether you're planning on leaving the hotel (which I'd recommend); if you do, get a car, otherwise, don't bother.

The best rate I've seen for a rental car with an
automatic transmission is 21.25 CYP per day (27.00 CYP less an online discount) available from Thrifty Cyprus (http://www.thrifty.com.cy/).

[QUOTE=HomerJ So on the advice of Nicolo, if any of your booking engines are showing a different itinerary than the one you changed too...call the very helpful Nicolo so he can get it sorted out. :)[/QUOTE]

...sage advice!

I have to send my tickets to Nicolo and just wanted to know what courier to use. Did anyone get insurance?? I live in the bay area and Fed Ex seems to be $16.00 for 2nd day air which I guess is not that bad. Any suggestions appreciated.

I just spoke to Nicolo RE: some tickets coming up this Friday. He said it's possible to cancel the tickets now and then use them later once you are sure of your dates.

If you have Hilton points, today is your last day to be able to book the Hilton Park Nicosia at just 10K points tonight. It's an incredible bargain at that rate. Tomorrow, it jumps 2 categories.

Any idea what kind of transportation is available between the Hilton and the airport? I'm looking to spend one night in/around Cyprus, so if it's only by cab, I'm not sure if it would be worth round trip cab-fare for the free night.

There's even FedEx '3rd Day' air if you want to save even more.

No need for insurance, as the paper tickets have no intrinsic value. Just make acopy of the ticket receipt for your records, just in case!

I think you mean it jumps TO the 2nd category. It goes from Cat 1 to Cat 2. (http://www.hiltonhhonors.com/processLanding.aspx?lp=categorychangehilton#intl)

I did too, just in case (can always cancel later). The hotel does seem too far from the typical 'touristy' areas (i.e, beach resorts). Are there any FT'ers that are planning to stay at this or the other (cat 3 until tomorrow) hotel?

I've got a total of 12 nights booked at the 10k place (2 different trips), and one night at the 25k place, along with a couple of nights in Rome. I blew almost all my miles on this trip, but at least it should be fun.

Remember, even if you don't have all the points in your account, you can still book the nights.

Quick turn at which airport? LCA? Or a forced overnight on the way back?

Got my reissued tix from Nicolo today. I am still booked in D on the MXP-LCA segments both ways. I will be in LCA for 4 nts. So, now I have to find cheap hotel there. I am awaiting reports froms FTERs who are there now or going soon.

I was able to change my res with Nicolo back when it was an option to cut out the LCA portion (very limited time offer). I sent my tickets into Nicolo and he issued an E-ticket for these flights. Life is good and everything is wonderful.

But today I call Orbitz to have them remove segments in my res to match what Alitalia has and they tell me that they will not touch the reservation now that AZ has been in it but will note the file so that no one at orbitz will touch the rez.

My question is this: As long as I have my E-ticket, does it matter if Orbitz removes the segments or not? I can see how it would matter with a paper ticket but the AZ system shows the correct itinerary. Am I good to go?

Am I good to go?It makes no real difference whether it's a paper or an e-ticket -- as long as Orbitz doesn't touch your booking (i.e. as long as they don't try to cancel your segments in Alitalia's systems), and as long as you don't rely on the info, contained in Orbitz's systems, you should be OK...

Now that I was happy to get my tickets from Nicolo I have another problem. I cannot view my initiary with my res. # on viewmytrip.com or other sites. Can someone tell me what I should do? I called Alitalia and got my seat assignments so I am in their system. I got my originial ticket from CT but it shows only my initiary as cancelled. Thanks for the help.

I have searched long and hard for an inexpensive airport hotel (free shuttle) in Milan.

The best I have found is Malpensa House for 50 Euros, http://www.malpensahotel.org/eng/casa.htm

Anyone know anywhere else for a similar price? I am assuming many of us have a forced overnight in Milan and the airport isn't close to most hotels....

Quick question:

Flying MXP-EWR-YYZ. Finishing the trip in EWR and continuing to YYZ. Bags checked to YYZ. I know that if I was continuing to another destination in US, I would have to pick up my bags, go thorugh the customs and just leave. What happens in case of Canada? Please let me know. Thanks!

If you're not taking the last segment, then just get your bags in customs, and take them and check them in at your connecting airlines. You *might* be able to have them through checked to your real destination, but, they may give you a hard time, and could be problematic.
