no, we generally wait until the deal is over! I am agreeing to 57000 OF WHAT per night? THB? Travelocity lists and confirms their rate in JPY. If worse comes to worse we will get a coupon and cancel ;)

Yes. And hopefully finally someone will learn that it isn't FareAlert that kills a deal, it is inventory.

There is currently a FT'er in Tokyo on this rate issue, at the Mandarin Oriental, with a compensation arrangement from Travelocity similar to that of the Orbitz deal.
Something else to note is a cancellation policy issue. It may come in handy if folks book pre-paid or penalty rates. I've successfully cancelled such reservations, through Travelocity, on this issue, and have not as of yet been penalized. I'll report what, if anything, further happens.
Have fun!

And what would the compensation arrangement from the Orbitz deal be like?

You pay the full rate and they reimburse you for the difference after the stay, with appropriate supporting documents. With Orbitz, the guest is responsible for the taxes/service charges. I assume Travelocity is similar.

Typically, with the Orbitz deal, the reimbursements have been within 3 weeks of submission, so well within the float period of most credit cards. If Travelocity turns out to be similar (won't know that until the end of this month), then the deal should be within the financial reach of anyone with sufficient space on their credit card. In my case, for Japan, I secured a new card with the hotel chain we were staying at specifically for that purpose, obtaining bonus points and 0% APR for the first six months. Such a strategy might also work for a college student with sufficiently good credit. Lots of ways to skin this cat :)

That's what I get. Computer cannot find any hotelrooms in Tokyo. Takes em a long time to fix... Should lose some money on people genuinely looking for a hotelroom in Japan.

It's all broke up :D My theory is the Yen being so close to the doll and those wacky decimal points cause this often.

Have the hotels and booking agents like Travelocity, Expedia, and Orbitz been honoring the special rates, or do they cancel them?
