Caltrans received two bids (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/03/22/MNGKPHSBMI4.DTL) this afternoon to build the 1,860-foot-long single-tower suspension bridge that will complete the connection from the East Bay to Yerba Buena Island.
The low bid -- $1.43 billion -- came from a joint venture of American Bridge and Fluor Corp., contractors headquartered in Copperopolis, Pa.
The other bid -- $1.68 billion -- was from a joint venture Kiewit, Koch, Skanska and Manson, headquartered in Vancouver, Wash.
Caltrans engineers had estimated the cost of building the span at $1.45 billion.
Maybe I'll see this completed in my lifetime ^
