Wanted to get advices from you guys regarding budget hotels or hostels in Italy and Greece, as it seem to be difficult to find them on the net... some do not have websites.

I am traveling to Europe this summer and looking for simple accomodation, but clean and in a somewhat central location.

The cities I will be visiting are:

Rome- July 2-4
Florence- July 4-6
Athens- July6-7
Mykonos- July7-11

Any suggestions are really appreciated!

Thanks,

JCinNYC

PS: My first post ever... this is an awesome siteWelcome to FT!

Now some people's definition of cheap is different from others. Can you give us a ballpark figure of what you'd like to pay, and tell us what you found on your own?

While the community is always willing to give a hand, they tend to want to see that you did some work yourself and help you build on to it.

Go to here (http://slowtalk.com/groupee/) and do a search. Fodor's Forum also might be good for what you want.
Hostels and convents may be options.
Personally,I think you are moving around an aweful lot for such a short trip.
Either way, have a great trip and welcome to FT!

Thank you guys for responding to my post.

I have actually done quite a bit of research, but don't know if the hotels I'm looking at are good-value for the price I'm getting. Of course, I know they won't be a 5 star resort.

In Rome, I've looked at Hotel Jonella, Ares Rooms and Discover Rome. They all are in the 70 euro range, but don't know which one is better located and gives you more value for the money.

In Mykonos, the ones I'm considering are Les Moulins and Elena. I am looking for good location and clean hotels...

Jim - regarding your advice about going to a lot of places in a short period of time, you are right; I'm thinking about just going to Rome and then Mykonos. But to go to Mykonos I have to go to Athens since I'm taking the ferry out of Pireas, I might as well stay for a day and go to the ruins. I don't think there's a lot more to see there... Will really like to go to Florence but I'm re-thinking about it now!

Thanks for your comments and advices. ^

Best,

But to go to Mykonos I have to go to Athens since I'm taking the ferry out of Pireas, I might as well stay for a day and go to the ruins. I don't think there's a lot more to see there...Well, there's the Archeological Museum, which many visitors to Athens consider a must see. I spent a half day there, but it was all starting to blurr

Didn't go to Mykonos, but took the overnight ferry to Crete, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Don't know if they still have the slow boat, because it was a few years back.

Hopefully we'll have a few more posters help with specific hotels. When I travel I tend to wing it, and just show up without reservations :)

I thought about it... no reservations and stay longer in one place if there's a lot to do or leave earlier if done with it. But Summer is high season, so dont know if it would be too risky.

Thanks,

I'm not sure what or where Discover Rome is, but of the other two, I would prefer the location of Jonella. Another one in the same area and the same price range is Hotel Panda - http://www.hotelpanda.it but I haven't stayed at any of these. If interested in Trastevere, this place looks good:

If interested in a single, Hotel Julia can be pretty reasonable (I stayed there and the room is simple, small, and perfectly adequate).
