The cheapest would probably be to try and find a car ride. If you go to one of the universities (Concordia, McGill and Montreal are all downtown) and see if you can hop a ride with a student for spliting the price of gas.

Second cheapest would probably be a bus. Greyhound runs the route $43.90 for a 7 day advance purchase price.

I just checked all four sites to verify that people are looking for passengers to Toronto, and as long as you're willing to go on short notice, they definitely are.
