I'm supposed to take the red-eye out of SAN on March 26th. I just might have to miss my flight to see the PSA plane. :)

Sorry to burst your bubble but those are estimated dates for paint completion. The official dates and routes for the heritage planes have not been anounced yet. Parties are being planned for each heritage aircraft. I can only imagine the sea of orange that will be for PSA :D . The America West heritage aircraft will not participate in a celebration until August 1st, which is HP's birthday.

I really hope these hertiage aircraft put some smiles on the fine employees who once served for these airlines. I am sure many will be happy to see the smile fly once again. I wish they would keep one of the US Airways classic airplanes. I really do like the blue.

Ya, I would love to see the dark blue one too!

My view is that keeping the "US Airways" name alive post-acquisition IS paying honor to the heritage of the old US itself. And to be honest, I would not want to be sitting in the summer heat out West here in one of the old dark-blue planes.

As for the 4 heritage planes, I agree that hopefully they will put smiles on the faces of their old employees, and help put an end to all the "us vs. them" sentiment that can still be found out there.

Ya, well they should keep at least 1. One wont hurt to much. And it should be not on the west side, but on the east. Flying from PHL to cities like DCA/BOS/LGA. I mean, PHL has no heritage plane, so the dark blue should be PHL thing! or Washington. They should also keep 1 plane in US Air colors, and theres a usairways.com plane w/ silver livery.

Is there a Yellow GoFares plane? They should keep 'em, I mean speaking of heritage, everything was our heritage!

Not sure about bothering with the yellow GoFares plane being included as a 'heritage' livery... would be nice to see one kept as the old, mainly silver, livery from the USAir days though!

A heritage is a heritage. And no one did it better w/ Delta. They proudly ferried their very own 767 around key Delta cities. In ATL they have their own musuem. AA has its own in DFW. I think its called the CR Smith Museum. I guess with US' huge heritage we should have a museum as well. I mean, look back!

I think everything should be included!

Im collecting everything from the past from US Airway since we met US 2003. APR 13 will be my 3rd aniversary.

I have an old boarding pass, from my first US flight from ORD-CLT. I have some US F class plastic spoons, forks. I have an old ticket jacket that never had no Star Alliance symbol, as it wasnt in the alliance back then. I have old Attache magazines, head phones. I even have one of those paper luggage tags, that read: "Go Fares. There unbeliavably low" I have some other stuff too!

I apologise if this is slightly OT, but when I flew from Phila the evening of March 1st from Phila A-west, there was a plane with a Star Alliance logo tail, "Start Alliance" on the body, with "US Airways" in much much smaller print. The paint was mostly white. What's this livery all about?

As a member of *A, US gets to paint a number of planes in the special Star Alliance promotional livery - all-white with the big *A logo.

There are several US aircraft out there in *A paint, including 757s, Airbi and two Embraer 170s.

Thank you FCYTravis. It was rather exciting seeing a plane in different livery, so I can only imagine how heritage employees will feel seeing their "colors" fly again!

I'm not sure what prompted your rather wild reponse to my post. The 'heritage planes' idea is a great salute to the airlines that went into making the current US Airways. There were 4 such airlines, and therefore 4 'heritage planes'. The "US Airways" name itself (and retaining the blue/white/red US colors -- albeit in a better combination for US's now-important warm-weather West Coast hubs) seems to be a very fitting tribute to the pre-merger/pre-acquisition airline.

In addition, America West has always had a proud tradition of 'heritage' or theme planes. In honor of HP's 2 main hub states, there are both "Arizona" and "Nevada" themed planes, as well as planes with Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Arizona Cardinals designs. I would imagine this tradition will likely be continued and expanded with "Pennsylvania" and "North Carolina" planes added to celebrate the PHL and CLT hubs.

Your comment that some US planes should not be "on the west side, but on the east. Flying from PHL to cities like DCA/BOS/LGA" just exemplifies the "us vs. them" attitude I hope the new US can avoid as we all move forward into the future of one airline from coast to coast.

Well said, JScotts. Please know that Kinglobjaw writes some zingers from time to time and many on FT choose not to read or address his postings.

Aside from him, you'd find no one who would want to see a GoFares livery on ANY aircraft, never mind a US one. To claim that such was a part of the carrier's legacy is to misunderstand the real meaning of legacy!

Surely we can all agree that the significant histories and personalities of PS, PI, AL, and HP were all very unique and grounded in a time (particularly for the first three) when flying was an exceptional experience. Each of these carriers carved out a special niche in their marketplaces and, especially in the cases of PS and PI, were frankly beloved by many of their customers for decades.

I'm pleased that the new US is tipping its hat in recognition of its rich history. I, like you, have great hopes that the "West" and "East" teams can assimilate in a most positive and productive way.

Even some 70-seat PSA CRJs are done in the *A livery--I was on N708PS CLE-CLT last year which at the time was only in service with PSA for several months; it was apparently delivered in *A colors.

I can't believe I failed to notice at the time if the title said "US Airways" or "US Airways Express".....I had to look for a photo afterward. The titles do say Express. But why shouldn't there be a first generation US Airways logo retained? It is part of the company's heritage, isn't it? Its probably the classiest livery in the skies. It represents something different than the 'new' US Airways...as a tribute to the employees who fought through some tough times. Passengers like myself who rang up thousands of miles flying on the East Coast would appreciate it. I still have a full page ad from the Boston Globe from 1997 the day the 'new' US Airways was announced, something like 'some airlines give passengers a new paint job, we're giving them an entirely new airline.

I also would to see a metalback USAir 737.

This has nothing to do with 'us vs. them,' it has to do with rewarding passengers and employees that have been with the 'original' US Airways a long time. The bottom line is that this was a merger of un-equals...America West provided the money, and in that regard they were the stronger partner, but US Airways provides the prestige through access to key markets, international routes and the best route network in the populous part of the country. The airline that provides all of that has a heritage of its own, too...and 2 planes isn't too much to ask.

Why not a US Air and a Metrojet heritage plane? :)

The 1997-2005 US Airways livery is one of the best ever. It was distinctive and sharp. It would be nice to see at least one of those around years from now. I liked the bare-metal USAir livery too.

It can be argued that Allegheny, the predecessor of USAir, would be the "true heritage" livery for US, but the blue USAir livery is just too nice to let go of completely.
