View Full Version : Just my Luck....No Upgrade on my LGA-CLT flight at 7 days.

Well, my first attempt at upgrading as a CP has been unsuccessful at the seven day window. I am flying Flt 505 from LGA-CLT next Friday and the Liaison stated that the flight is now sold out in First. Expertflyer shows F7 on almost every other flight before and after that flight.

I guess the part that irked me a little was when the liason stated "I don't see that you were ever in the que". I had specifically asked the liaisons twice before if I was on the list and was answered with a "yes".

Obviously, my world will not end with this transgression. But is this is a common occurrence? I had a better upgrade percentage on this route as a Silver and Gold. Now, I make it to CP and the liaison can't even get me on the upgrade que?

Oh well...life moves on....

3pm flight out of NYC on a Friday. If you live in the south and want to get home at a reasonable hour, that's your flight. Not surpised to see it sold out in F (the Bank of America traffic alone might do that).

On a Tuesday, I think you would have not a problem. As an FYI, when I was CP, I'd always call and confirm all upgrade listings as soon as a trip ticketed (I don't trust the website to do it).

Flight 505 is only showing F-1. Doesn't look good at all..... As a CP for years, I've never had luck getting cleared on a waitlisted upgrade when a flight is showing F-1 a week out (especially from a station like LGA where you're not likely to luck out where people miss their connections and F seats open up as a result -- as can happen at PHL, CLT or PIT) If you have an hour and a half, I personally would see about getting on Flight 1205 that departs at 4:35 p.m. --- it's an A321 with 20 open seats in F now. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice PremiumSeat! I may even try to get the earlier flight at 12:30pm. I have to catch a flight to Frankfurt at 7:35pm out of Charlotte, so I may just relax in the lounge awhile

I fail to understand why you're flying LGA-CLT to then go onto FRA..... Any reason not to just commute down to PHL (be it on US or Amtrak)?

The fare was cheaper out of LGA and I chose CLT as a connection for a few extra miles. Plus, my success rate with PHL hasn't been too good.

I follow the logic, but don't necessarily agree with it. If the fare difference was over $400, then I'd consider it I guess. But I wouldn't do it for the better chance of upgrade (with still no guarantee).

Then again, if I was originating in NY I'd consider just taking another airline (like a UA codeshare) to London and still getting preferred points.

Oh no... Heven forbid you have to sit in coach for the one and one-half hour flight. Perhaps you should expect the seat you paid for, and that way you can't be disappointed!

In that case, why not just book the cheapest carrier, since by your logic, loyalty and status seem to be worthless?

Yeah...I would expect this from the same guy that flies LGA-CLT soooooo much that the gate agents know you by name.

IHATESAT....calm down and have some fun.... :D

Valid points PHL. I guess sometimes I just have to learn from experience. :D

Just remember to use online check in 24 hours before your departure - that way, you'll be able to be high up on the waitlist on day of departure (and remember to ask the agent checking you in to put you on the waitlist). On a flight listing only 1 seat left in F seven days out, I've had remarkable luck getting that last seat. However, it wasn't on the Friday afternoon LGA-CLT.

Thanks for the advice CLTFlyer! If I don't get upgraded, no big deal, I still have my exit row seat. ^

If you would take a moment to re-read the original post, the OP was not complaining about having to fly in coach. He was frustrated at the seemingly failed upgrade process. Furthermore, he was not being the least bit unreasonable in his expectation since complimentary upgrades are a published benefit of the program.

While I agree that he should not complain about getting the seat for which he paid, that is not what he has done. He has identified and expressed frustration for the lack of a benefit (being placed in the queue for a potential upgrade, and not the upgrade itself) that was offered to him by the airline in exchange for his business.
