I need to plan an emergency whirlwind trip to do research in Europe. Essentially I have to hit a major city in England and a major city in Germany to spend a day in their respective libraries.
Looking at the maps and through general knowledge US's coverage, I typed in CMH-LHR-FRA-CMH because I thought Heathrow and Frankfurt were hubs and would ergo have flights between the two... not the case. USairways.com says that service between the two is unavailable. Gatwick yielded the same as well as Munich.
Like I said in the first graph, I just need to get to a city with a major library in both countries leaving from either CMH, DAY or CVG. If anyone knows of a route between the UK and Germany let me know.

Lufthansa flies LHR-FRA, but apparently it's not bookable as a codeshare through USAirways.com, given that it requires a change of airport in London.
You might try calling US Airways reservations and see if an agent can put together a routing for you. This is one sort of thing where the human with a GDS really helps :)

There's also a ton of Southwest-like alternatives for such a short flight. Just book US open jaw to arrive in London and leave from Frankfurt.
Or book a one-way on LH as a non-codeshare but still credit to your US DM account. I'm sure BA flies as well.

I wasn't even thinking that... I'm so used to seeing the code shares pop up for the second leg of a transcon that I didn't realize you couldn't book it under these circumstances.
Alright, I'm going to jump on the phone and be instantly transfered to another part of the world... Cover me.

Another option would be UA... that should help out.

US's website is soooo domestic-USA biased its not even funny. PLEASE, if you are looking into flying USA thru LGW look at the B fares that are available - they are often only $650 plus taxes and are upgradable at time of booking w/ 10k miles r/t... a GREAT use of miles IMO to get to Envoy. The LGW arrivals lounge is great as well... Book your ongoing flights on another site...
just my 2 cents... :)

If it doesn't matter to which airport in Germany you fly...
Buy an open jaw CMH-LGW and FRA-CMH. Then buy a one-way London-Frankfurt on RyanAir.
UNLESS, that is, you want to take a Star Alliance carrier, in which case both Lufthansa and BMI are possibilities (you'll get more miles with LH) but not necessarily the cheapest option.
Given that SP doesn't really get you many perks with the Star Alliance, my recommendation would be to look into a ticket on United (which codeshares with LH and BMI more than US) and you could buy one ticket CMH-ORD/IAD-LHR-FRA/MUC-IAD/ORD-CMH -- just keep it to United Metal (with the exception of the LHR-FRA/MUC flights which will be on LH or BM) and you'll get Economy Plus.

According to his profile thingy, he's US Airways Gold - which means lounge access, priority check-in, etc.

Yes, you are right -- I read too quickly.
Another reason you should just fly a combo of UA and LH -- Get E+ on the way over and into LHR rather than LGW...

I'm pretty much all set I think. I put a 24 hour hold on a route similar to what Noah recommended. I want to weigh the options tonight but might flip over to United. Ryan Air is the leading contender for the England-Germany segment but I may take LH just for giggles and also because I need every mile I can get for honeymoon tickets.
It seems like I have my pick of the litter getting over the puddle. I'm not planning to upgrade so this would be in roach. Between US, UA and LH which one is going to be most tollerable for the long flight? Keep in mind I get fidgetty. I get the Jimmy Legs unless I'm drinking a few Jack and Cokes. E+ sounds like it's got the most leg room.
Thanks for all the help guys. You rock.

First choice - UA in E+ (on a 777 or 767 so you get a PTV; avoid the 744)
Second choice -- US on the 333
Last Choice -- LH with no PTV in any class (unless you want FlyNet which is really, really, really awesome but not quite worth it to me not to fly in E+)

Keep in mind if you fly Ryanair, they have a VERY limited free baggage allowance, and the cost gets fairly hefty if you go over the limit.

Any bookings made on Ryanair from now on have ZERO free allowance for checked baggage.
You have to pay for any checked baggage, although it's cheaper if you pay it in advance.

Check British Midlands also. I have flown them from LHR to the continent and they have very decent coach service. They also have a nice lounge at LHR you can access as a *Gold. I have flown them on UA codeshares.
