This is a 2-star (even by travelocity standards) "budget-friendly" hotel.

Something I've been noticing shortly after a hotel is posted on freetraveling.com lately. Travelocity must be monitoring.

Of course they are monitoring. Now that these error rates are convienently compiled in 2-3 forums it is quite simple to monitor and pull the rates. That was a much bigger task when they were scattered among other topics.

Or, like Coupon Connection, require some form of forum participation to access this forum...

This is actually an interesting thought!
Most flyertalkers would still be able to access the info but it would minimize immediate airline/hotel response and cross posting on fatwallet etc...
Has this idea beed discussed anywhere in the past?

Not that I am aware of. Feel free to suggest it!

I clicked on this link since it is only the third hotel deal to a place I might have been able to use (Tokyo Ich and Osaka Hilton are the other two) Congrats to anyone who got in and thanks to the op for posting it. :)
In theory I love the coupon connection idea, but the reality is that several of these deals including this one would never be posted since the authors couldn't even get to the forum. I don't think that when Lemex first started posting his finds that his post count would never have given him access (I could be wrong), and I don't believe Kaz would be able to have posted this either, it has been a long while since coupon connection disappeared to me, but I think you need at the least 90 to see it. Maybe a solution would be something like a forum protected by a privacy policy that you would have to agree to not be working for the hotels or major internet travel retailers to be able to view. I know nothing on this subject, but I assume that there are some lawyers or internet gurus on flyertalk that might know how these type of policies work. I have also seen forums where a subforum was invisible to people who weren't logged in, that might also help slightly but it isn't hard to register an account so maybe not.

There's no reason to restrict starting new threads, just reading threads that you did not start...
Of course that's probably beyond the present capabilities of this forum software, but that's the way I'd do it.

And I have no idea why restricting viewing or posting in threads on flyertalk would affect travelocity's ability to check fretraveling.com, on which posting apparently is the death knell for these deals.

Regarding this particular deal, I'd just like to point out that apparently this hotel has only 36 rooms total:
And I believe some of the rooms may be occupied by permanent residents.
So if the OP booked it, and perhaps alerted a few others privately before posting it, perhaps Travelocity simply sold out of of its inventory that quickly. Just speculating of course.
