View Full Version : Buying Tix From Consolidators In Japan for Itinerary in Reverse?

Hello FT'ers,

I noticed that fares from the Japanese travel agencies/consolidators to the US seemed to be occasionally cheaper than booking from US based agencies. Am I not factoring extra fees or possibly they are being quoted as one way? If they are RT, then my next question is: would it be possible to book it in reverse, i.e. instead of NRT to LAX as originating, make it LAX to NRT.

I know airlines have their lovely and convoluted rules, but wondering if there was a way around this. What am I missing (besides common sense)? Anyone have any luck doing this with a consolidator?

BTW, hoping this is the right forum to post; mods, please move to appropriate one if this isn't the right place.

Thanks in advance.

I once did this the other way around - purchased a ticket from an agent in London for a flight which originated in NRT.
(That was an NRT-LHR-NRT trip).

On that occasion, the problem was that there was absolutely no available flight from the travel agents that I contacted in Japan on the dates that I wanted to travel (peak travel dates with very little advance notice).

Somehow my friend's travel agency in London was able to reach an inventory that I could use... It was not "cheap" but it was better than not flying at all.
