Well it was my first time on US metal as a HP Chaimans (CE vs the US CP). I kept on checking my flight and requested an upgrade. My travel agency site put my US GOLD number in first, so had to call and they changed it. I was then put in the "Queue" for the upgrade. Well 1 week prior passed (last Tuesday) and was on the waitlist.. So I checked online 3 F seats still open.
Then on Friday, noticed my return was upgrade (this Thursday CLT-LAX).. but still waitlisted on the outbound. So reviewed the US board over and over and realized that you need to check in early to get on top of the list. So since my flight was 1pm today, I checked in at 1pm on Sunday.. So I checked in, STILL a COACH seat.. (so I am a little disapointed)...
Ok, well I have my 24 hours early checkin and arrive at the airport. This was the fun part. The US East checkin agent says she will add me to the list.. and needs some help adding me. She apparently wants me added as a HP1 or something, but I get added jsut like a US Chairmans. She said she doesn't think I would "get upgraded before our chairmans". Well low and behold.. I am first on the list....
Get to the gate, tell me it is full, but not everyone has checked in. 30 min prior, get paged, and handed a FIRST CLASS BP. They said I was the first on the list, with the earliest check in.
So two good things came out of this (I learned):
1. Check in 24 hours prior... (on the dot if possible) to get on top of the Waitlist at the gate..
2. HP and US Chairman's are interchangable in their system... no preference to CP over CE.
One note, on my US Web BP it lists my status as CHAIRMANS PREFERED then below that HP*FLIGHT FUND PLATINUM then HP and my FF number.
Strange ... I know there were some upset US CP.. but luckily, none of them knew who I was :) whew....
Overall.. nice experience.
