I recently rebooked some old unused tickets to fly from LGA to CLT on Sunday afternoons; even as a CP, upgrades have been hard to come by. How does US apparently completely fill the FC cabin? Award tickets or paid F?
This Sunday, I checked in for the flight 7 hours before the flight and got to the airport 70 minutes before departure. I was told at the ticket counter, 65 minutes before departure, that FC had already checked in full, and no upgrades cleared at the gate. I had an exit row seat next to two non-Preferreds.
What's up with this? Either some other CPs checked in online before I did and their upgrades cleared right when they checked in or before, or else the FC cabin was sold out with paid FC seats, or there were plenty of award tickets in FC. But there couldn't have been too many Preferreds elsewhere in coach (on a 737) since I'd think otherwise they'd have been in the exit rows.
Anybody fly this route regularly and know who flies in FC? Thanks.

I have a similar situtation on my LAX-CLT flight today (at 1pm)... was 3 open F for a while, then went to 0 and still waitlisted... I checked in exactly at 24 hours (let's see if that helps).. but not feeling good about this.. took row 10 on the A321 since I like the front of the plane.. got my UG already for the return... but was surprised on this UG not going anywhere...

There have been a significant number of A4COACH fares available to/from LGA this past year to cities heavily served by certain competitors (Delta, Airtran, etc). Immediately books to FC. LGA-CLT is just the first leg for many of these customers.

Presidents day travel, lots of full flights, and people who actually pay for F.
Perhaps someone should write a letter to complain to Doug Parker.
Dear Mr. Parker.
Someone who actually paid for first class took my seat  . This should be stopped as it alienates the elites of the airline.
Signed,
Mr. Big Shot

The LGA-CLT flights are, for some reason, the hardest to upgraded on. Typically, the early flights (6am) are easier to get upgraded on than the afternoon (12-2p).
I'm Chairman's and travel the LGA-CLT so often that the gate agents know me by name, and I assume that helps getting an upgrade. But, for the 1hr and 45 mins you're airborne, is it really worth getting bent out of shape if you wind up sitting in coach? Of course not. I wouldn't let it ruin my trip.. it's not worth it.
