Well, I am happy to report that I received (1) 200 gram box of Godiva.......one small bag of cookies.....Green tea Choco, and chocolate covered candied mikans. I remember years ago getting at least 20 boxes of choco.....what happened? Perhaps I'm not ninki anymore. ;) :D!

Only two here; small boxes but high end hand-made chocos from a place in Ginza. ^

Got the sublime and the ridiculous.

One very small and IMHO lame attempt from the ladies in the office. A sake cup of sake flavored choco. Probably set them back 500 yen.

And from a special person a bag of 50 Starbucks foil covered coins of chocolate (Milk and Dark mixed).

VD Day is on shaky ground over here as far as I can tell. Looking forward to the slinky white knickers fashioned into roses at Mitsukoshi for White Day. :)

Me too. A couple of high-end choco bits from my wife's staff, and -- get this -- a choco-chimpanzee! That one's a first for me. Ever since explaining my admiration for Jane Goodall, anytime my family sees anything remotely simian they just have to point it out to me.

Agree that Valetine's Day is decidedly low-key here. The depato may use it for an excuse for a sale, but nobody else much cares. The florists seemed genuninely surprised that I was buying flowers for my wife. At 7 pm I expected to get crappy flowers, if any were left at all. But the place and the stock looked like it does any other day.

Syntax was not terrific was it? Left myself open for that one I guess. ;)

If you opt out of the Shochu though, just be sure to bring something lovely from Kyushu in the knickers when you give them to me. :)

Nah, on second thought, I may get in trouble for that. Lets stick with fermented potato juice and see where that leads.......

You too? Is this the one that comes in a little wooden sake cup? They are pretty good actually. Instead of the usual liqueur it comes with sake. A secretary at one of my clients gave it to me. Didn't mind, because she's a Class A hottie anyway.

I also got a box of Lindt wafers from one of our analysts. She gives giri choco to all the senior guys, so I'm not singled out.

Mrs. Pickles gave me a small box of Dalloyau Marrons Glaces, and a birthday card with the birthday part crossed out, with a picture of a duck.

I got a box of those white chocolate-covered freeze-dried strawberries. Very tasty, but somewhat confusing given that I'm a girl.

The women in my office don't do Valentines... we have an "American office culture" (when it suits them).

I did get some rather nice chocolate biscuits from a supplier... and a box of rather odd passion-fruit flavoured things by Godiva from Mrs. jib71.

Interestingly, the florist told me about a new development - She has noticed more and more Japanese men buying flowers on Valentines Day. She used to only see Western men buying roses for their wives and girlfriends... but the idea seems to be crossing over. We both agreed that it was better than all that White Day nonsense.

Those would be the ones. Gave them away to a forlorn looking colleague whose haul was not what mine was.

Red wine and chocolate yes, but sake a pretty much anything washoku works better for me.

In my case it was the stone cold hottie that gave me the Starbucks choco. ;)

Even though I live in the U.S., all of my students are Japanese. so I guess my chocolate can be considered "giri choco." So far this week I've gotten:

- one small box of Godiva
- one heart-shaped box of Lindt truffles
- one box of Duc d'O chocolates
- chocolate mochi
- a homemade chocolate tart
- one box of Girl Scout cookies
- some assorted Meiji chocolates

It's nice to get gifts, but I'm so sick of chocolate! I still have boxes of every imaginable flavor of chocolate from 2 years ago. I have mango chocolate, various kinds of green tea chocolate, yogurt-flavored chocolate, strawberry chocolate, sakura KitKats, wine-flavored KitKats, grape KitKats, etc. I'm getting a stomachache just thiking about it.

Twenty years ago I used to get between 20 and 30 chocolates of varying sorts on this day. I'd never eat them. Instead I would take them down to my usual sushi-ya that very same evening and trade them for sushi! :D A small giri-choco for an ika, the little box of whiskey chocos for a couple of chuutoros, etc.

Then I got married, and that year I only received four Valentine Day chocos, one of which was from my wife. The following year I only got one--from the wife. The year after that--none, not even from the wife. It was then that I knew what married life was really all about.

Happy to say that this year I got a nice big box of Godiva, the "dark bitter" box, from the wife. That I had to pick it out in the department store for her to buy, and that both she and my daughter cleaned the box out in short order is beside the point. It was the thought that mattered! :)

No idea. It was a special Valentines Day booth at our local mall. If it help, the box is pink, and the only thing resembling a product name on it says "The Pink Jungle Edition of Zoology" -- whatever that means.

Oh...were you serious? ;)
