Hi everyone. I was reading a guidebook in preparation for my upcoming trip to Maui / Hawaii and it recommended a place called Kaanapali Mixed Plate inside the Kaanapali Beach Hotel for a luau meal experience on Friday nights without the luau for about $12 per person during the early bird dinner. I tried looking this place up online and it had very mixed reviews ranging from the food being inedible to having the best Hawaiian style dinner for the buck. Does anyone have personal experience with this place that can share their thoughts?

Here's the website:

BTW, this is NOT the Aloha Mixed Plate which has some pretty good reviews, but I wanted a more of a buffet style dinner where I can try lots of different things without having to actually go to a luau.

P.S. Apparently they change their menu daily and the Friday menu is "authentic Hawaiian style" food.

I don't know. The menu doesn't look too appealing to me...

This is what Frommer's stated when talking about the Kaanapali Beach Hotel:

"At the buffet-style Mixed Plate, the Hawaiian Friday lunch is widely touted among residents, who voted this the best Hawaiian food in the Maui News: fresh poi, lomi salmon, laulau, Kalua pig, and ahi poke, for $11. Dinner includes all of the above and prime rib (early bird, $15 6-9pm)."

Sounds good to me! Now just for reviews from people that have actually TASTED it...
