any suggestions for staying in the Vegas area from April 6 - April 10, 2006, looking to spend about $40 - $50 per night, NOT in the downtown area and does not have to be on the strip. I will have a car and do not mind driving anywhere around the area, Henderson, etc.
Looking for something decent, and I do mean decent, but dont plan on being in the room for more than 7 hours per night, so I dont want to spend the $$.
All suggestions are appreciated, Thanks!

I guess the Days Inn is downtown, so that won’t be an option. Nor will the Golden Nugget (you can often get rooms there for around $60 all in).
Best I managed when I went there was the Westin using Priceline. We managed to get rooms for around $70 all in for Fri & Sat nights. The mid strip location was perfect and the heavenly bed was sooo comfortable.
We weren’t driving, so I never looked further out.
This thread is great for advice: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=371487
How about Barbary Coast from $43? (link: http://www.cheapotravel.com/hotel_bargain_bin.php3?sort=checkin&fromguide=LAS )

I saw your price range on Travelocity for the Howard Johnson's Airport and Arizona Charlies on Boulder. I never stayed at either. Another place to check is the Extended Stay America on Boulder Hwy, near Sam's Town. They have 3 other properties in Vegas, and are usually in the same price range.

Just got back from a weekend in LAS - stayed at the HoJo by the airport - I had a car & had no real problems. It's got exterior corridors - bring your own shampoo/conditioner (they don't supply it - they have crappy bar soaps) - the towels are like sandpaper. They have all you need though - a bed (or 2 in our case) and a sh*tter & and a shower - our price over the holiday weekend was 49.99 for Friday & 59.99 for Saturday night. I thought it was decent enough, on the lower end, even for a HoJo & wouldn't have issues staying there again if the price was this low.
Other places I saw - Wild Wild West - breakfast was 3.50 & the rooms were pretty cheap (like 35-40/night??) - not on the strip & didn't appear to be that much of a dump. Then there were the Budget Suites - which were advertising 39/night - but didn't seem bookable online as I never saw them advertised til I got there. If you're arriving earlier than later, see if you can book a cancellable room (just to have a back-up) and then check walk-in rates at off-strip hotels. If you're seriously going low budget, then there are a LOT of 1/2 star to 1-star hotels you can stay at for real cheap in Vegas - just cancel your backup reservation.
That said, I'm going to move this to the Vegas forum.
Thanks!

Any good airport hotels recommended for Vegas? I saw some pretty bad reviews for that HoJo... also wondering if some of the cheaper hotels near the airport have 24 hour shuttles?

Have you tried Hotwire?
I see a 3 star in North Strip for $64 a night
There is a 2-star hotel in McCarran - Near Strip South for $59

The 3 star in North Strip is almost assuredly Circus Circus.

The Howard Johnsons in Las Vegas was the single worst motel experience I have ever had traveling.

www.easyclicktravel.com has plenty of 2-star "dumps" to choose from. Knights Inn is near the airport for $46.34 a night for your dates. While all the other selections have rather scary stories on tripadvisor.com, curiously, no one on TripAdvisor has ever rated Knights Inn. You could be the first. :D :D :D
Think of it...as an adventure.
Also, you might consider splitting your stay. You could stay the 9th and 10th of April at Aladdin for $59. Here's the link (http://sdm3.com/viewmsg.cfm?n152s2980c4307026t2105e3207631) for that promotion.

I would suggest the Motel 6 on E. Tropicana at Koval. It has rooms for $50 a night.
I stayed there 3 New Year Eves ago. I wantd a cheap room near the Strip so I wouldn't have to worry about getting home. The place as typical motel 6, nothing fancy but clean and walking distance to LV Blvd.
There is another motel 6 at Tropicana and I-15 but that one looks pretty dumpy.

Well, I suppose there might be some folks who enjoy rooms with broken beds, pubic hairs in the bathtub and sink and coffeepot  , a spider inside the coffeemaker, hookers in the parking lot below, a 5 minute limit on local calls with extra minutes billed at $.25 per minute, a night manager who said "your rate was too low, what do you expect, I don't have time to get you another room even if you pay, can't you see I'm busy chain smoking and talking on my cell phone here?"
Other than that, it was a fine stay.

Hmmm, pretty bad.
On the bright side: Were the hookers any good?

SunCoast in Summerlin is pretty good. We stayed there for about $65 per night. It's a fairly new property. Very scenic views, clean and spacious rooms. Nice casino, night club, eateries, but no poker room.

Back to topic, a slightly different question: Going to get a head start of an hour or so on a southern Utah road trip after arriving at LAS in the evening. Any place that anyone recommends in Mesquite, Nevada?

Bid 2.5* in the Airport Zone, if it's not a high-demand time you'll get something like the Courtyard or Residence Inn in Green Valley, the same chains in the newer South Strip Marriott cluster, or even the Doubletree Club very close to McCarran itself.
Wins have been reported on the familiar travel bidding boards for as low as $45 plus tax/fee, within the last month or so.

Aladdin is available for $59 April 9 and 10 using the following link:
You COULD try to gamble A LOT and score a comped room.
It's a couple miles from the Strip, but I've stayed at Terrible's, and it actually wasn't a bad experience. Lots of freebies to be had there, if you sign up for their slot club.

The thing is the HoJo is now the Knights Inn - I was in room 831 & the soap in the bathroom was Knights Inn soap.
Others have given this HoJo/Knights Inn bad reviews (yes, there may have been a pimp & a couple of hookers a few rooms down, but we were there for 2 nights with about $500 cash, cameras, and our laptops (which we actually did hide above the TV stand) & luggage and didn't encounter any problems - the staff was friendly, the parking lot clean, and neighbors were pretty quiet (granted, we didn't roll in til 4AM & they were definitely still awake), overall, I honestly wouldn't have an issue staying there again. Of course, I'm a low budget kind of guy...
It's a total dump of a hotel, but it's cheap & seemed safe and relatively clean...

any good or bad news on the Travelodge near the LAS airport? It looks fairly close to the Strip
