on the MGM homepage they say that they have Airport Check-In. What would you prefer? Check in at the airport or at the hotel?
They offer an "individual shuttle service" for $9,75 (roundtrip). As I am travelling alone this seems to be cheaper than taking a cab. But is this really an individual shuttle or is this an ordinary one, meaning I have to drive with others, maybe to other hotels first. Anyone done that?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Oliver,
The times I have been in the LAS airport the queues have never been large for the airport check in for the MGM ( the check in at the hotel may have queues) - however I have not arrived for peak times ( Fri-Sat or conventions)- you could take a detour past the check in whilst waiting for the luggage- if the queue is too big go to the hotel.
I do not know about the shuttle ( could be you just get a ticket for the shuttle)- if it is a shared shuttle then you might not be the first drop off)
Taxi should be less than $15 with tip.

Airport check in is an excellent way to efficiently use the 20-40 min it takes to get bags from the plane to the luggage carousels in LAS.
I always recommend taking a cab. The MGM is at most a $12 cab fare (as long as you are not long hauled (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=487907&highlight=long+hauled)). The shuttles can take quite a bit of time to depart, and you can have many stops before your property is reached.

Stayed at MGM two weekends ago. Arrived on Friday night around 7:30 pm, only two people in line for the airport checkin. There were three people behind the counter so the wait was not very long. Received room keys and the shuttle offer. I took the shuttle one-way and it was $5.00. Went to shuttle and it took about ten minutes or so before the driver came in and took off. We were the last to board so I believe the shuttle was there for at least 20 minutes as there were about 10 others already seated inside. For this shuttle, MGM was the first stop so the ride was pretty quick. All in all a good experience so I recommend the airport checkin and shuttle service if you don't mind waiting. Have fun, good luck and definitely check out their restaurants. Nobhill, Craftsteak and Seablue were quite good :p

MGM Airport Check In - YES
Airport Shuttle to MGM - Up to you. I would only buy a one way ticket. Personally, it's so close I'd take a taxi.
Airport Shuttle to Airport - They shuttle service back to the airport has a poor reputation for being on time for hotel pickups. Personally, I'd spend the extra few dollars and take a cab.

Yes, but if you use the shuttle offered by the MGM LAS check-in they will deal with your bags all the way to the hotel bellhop service, else you will have to cart them to the cab line and check them in with the bellhop (double tip) when you get there. The latter does, however, save time.

I normally use the skycap to bypass the cab line. A few $ here and there is worth the time savings to me.

I was just in Las Vegas this past weekend and stayed at the MGM. I used the airport checkin and am very glad I did. My plane landed at 8:30 PM which is during peak checkin hours. I went right to the airport checkin and did not have to wait very long at all. I got my room key and headed to the hotel. I noticed the lines to checkin at the Hotel were ridiculous.

A Skycap is a luggage porter.
Even if you only have 1 bag, if you enlist his aid, he will enable you to bypass the taxi queue and take you right to a pickup point. This is done so that the Skycaps do not waste a lot of time queing with you (and enables them to get more tips). You can tip what you want, I usually tip $5 per person travelling.
While waiting for the bags to come off of the aircraft, I normally walk out and check the size of the taxi queue. If it is small, I don't bother enlisting the skycap's assistance.
I would imagine that at 2pm on a sunday, there would not be much of a line. Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings are the peak times.

I used the airport checkin last time and it took a matter of two minutes. One caveat -- I was on one of their emailed promo rates and they didn't have one of the coupons that I was owed ($35 off at Desert Passage Shops) so I had to stop by the main reception desk at the hotel to get that. Still, airport checkin was very convenient.
It wasn't bad since I just waited for a timeframe when I was walking by reception and there wasn't anyone there waiting, but recognize that may be an issue if you're on a promo rate.
