Anyone know how I get alerts or updates when anything going from the east coast to AMS "pop" up super cheap (under $250.00 total) new to this and need help...currently have 16943 miles(delta), how can I use them to help pay for this trip?

Read the other posts on this thread, keep a eye on this thread, keep an open mind about routing :)

250 US seems low due to taxes, though.

$350 is probably the best you will see ever unless there is a super sale or a mistake fare. When do you need to travel? The minimum number of DL miles required to reach AMS is 50k.

Also, just FYI, I'm not sure this is a 'Mileage Run' topic. Welcome to FT.

Travelocity has a service you can sign up for on their website. You list from and to cities, and they will e-mail you every time there is a lower fare available for those cities (lower than what was previously available).

Hi paintergirl,

Welcome to FlyerTalk! :)

As it was noted in some of the posts above, the Mileage Run forum is not necessarily the best place to get fare help as that's not the purpose of this forum. To learn more about the purpose of this forum, please feel free to read the Welcome to the Mileage Run (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=454485) thread.

As for answering your questions, if you go to the Mileage Run Tools tread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=312559), you'll find a link to Yahoo Best Fares - if you have a yahoo email account, you can have them send fare alerts there.

And like others said, 250 is a little low for AMS - maybe 350 - also, you never said where on the east coast your flying from. If you're flying out of New York City, Boston, or DC, it may be cheaper than if you're flying out Atlanta or Miami or something. 16K miles won't really do anything for you as far as getting you to Amsterdam.

I'm going to go ahead & move this into the Budget Travel forum - although that forum isn't for fare finding either, since you're on a budget, there may be other options that can be suggested, such as courier service or some wholesalers.

Thanks & again, welcome to FlyerTalk! :)

it might also help if you could be a little more specific.

The east coast is a big place. flying from where? and when do you want to go?

I have been to Amsterdam several times. Except for the use of DL Skymiles, the cheapest fare I have booked was $367.61 from ATL in December 2001 (right after 9/11). The cheapest fare I have seen was $299 from ATL-AMS in February 2002 (with triple miles) but also in the period shortly after 9/11. Check www.ClarkHoward.com as he updates travel deals constantly, especially on Fridays. The best deals are usually between December and February when the weather there is less than ideal. This season I would expect to pay in the $400 range. Maybe Doc can chime in on this one as he keeps his finger on the pulse of travel deals more than most.

I think I got RT fares from BWI to AMS (with a stopover in Reykjavik, which I never mind! :D ) for around $275 once. Don't forget to check with Iceland Air, especially their Lucky Fares and specials. You can get to Scandinavia WAY cheap compared to other carriers....

good luck,
V

LTU (www.ltu.com) has a special currently $269+taxes NYC to Dusseldorf, which is a couple of hours by train from Amsterdam.

Cool site but after taxes and surcharges that fare came out to $420 (a seemingly appropriate fare if it were to Amsterdam).

~$400 NYC/PHL -> AMS is pretty fair. $250 before taxes is pretty good.

I paid $375 (Feb 04) from SAN on NW which is amazing, IMO. Was $100 more anywhere else in continental Europe (inc. IST, ATH, but I never been to AMS before..).

Under $400 is a good price from WAS-AMS. I flew last March for $350 all-in on UA and LH. Connection in FRA on the way there and ns on UA for the return. Co-workers have found tickets even lower.

IcelandAir can have some great deals especially for winter travel. I'm still happy about the $340 ticket to Stockholm that I grabbed for New Years last year. Almost as good as the Malaysia Airlines intro special (EWR-ARN) for $99+ taxes sometime last year.

if you can find a good fare to London or another city in Europe, try one of the easyjets or equivalent for a flight to AMS.

I do the same thing... In fact Im doing it again this year, for the last 5 years or so I go around 20 dec, come back around 3 jan... few days in the Dam on each end of the trip... this year going to berlin and Prague in the middle... can't wait.

Last year I booked late, and the cheapest fare I could find from SAN was on northwest for $1200 a seat! Ouch!

Fares have already started to skyrocket... waited 1 week too long and had to pay around $150 per seat more :( $700 per seat is still alot better than $1200 of last year.
