don't forget you can fly CO & NW on these as well.
ATL-SLC-ANC-SEA-ATL prices out at $524.80 in coach on DL with a redeye return. You probably could've done better price wise if you booked further out. Also, flying from ATL makes it a bit harder. Will earn just over 7,000 MQM round trip. (ANC-SEA is an AS codeshare and will not be elgible for DL upgrade)

Do a ATL-JFK round trip for $181 for 1600 miles
Schedule a JFK-ONT round trip between the two legs for $246 and 5300 miles. You can have the ONT-JFK leg be a red-eye.
$427 for almost 7000 MQM. Be sure to use Amex if you can for double bonus miles.
The routings do work on ITA. Good luck.
If you do the ONT suggestion and you buy two tickets it may be an issue. Make sure you buy just one ticket to keep it on one PNR. Buy it as four one ways under multi-city on delta.com. Shouldn't change the fare, but will ensure Delta doesn't invalidate the miles. I'm not even sure they would, but travelling on two tickets at the same time I believe is against their terms of service.

I always thought nesting trips was permissible.
