Yes!!!!

Southwest sucks.

As the NO. 6 carrier in US, it only fly to 50 citis. Even the NO. 8 Amer West fly to 97 cities.

SW never fly cities it cannot make money. It is unfair for other airlines and people live in small cities.

Oh, please. Heaven forbid a business concentrate its product where it is profitable.

P.S. Tell me which of the following cities served by WN that you believe are not "small cities": Amarillo, Birmingham, Boise, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Harlingen, Jackson, Lubbock, Norfolk, Omaha, Spokane, and Tulsa.

Southwest sucks??? Oh, come on. Not really an adult conversation, is it? I guess it sucks to be the most consistently profitable airline in US history.

They're a public company that exists to create value for their shareholders. Do you think that would be accomplished by flying into podunk towns that would lose them money. And please...do your homework regarding airlines that do fly into these places....it's called subsidies.

It's sad that the investors that are financing the US/HP merger will end up losing all of their money. They will STILL be out of business....it will just take longer. What was the last airliner merger that you saw work well? Heck...even Southwest's acquisition of Morris Air was not without problems (and Morris was SMALL).

In my years here on FT, I am going to rate the posting above as the hands down least worthy yet. Case closed. If I were a moderator, I'd consider its elimination in the name of common sense.

Who cares the airlines lose money or not.

the important thing is they can send you where you want to go.

At least SWA cannot do this for a lot of people now.

Southwest does suck, but it is also the most profitable airline and the "most valuable" airline in the world (according to the WSJ). I hate it, a lot of other people hate it, but everyone else flies them and gives them their money. I guess it's personal preference, some people like to fly on an airline modeled after Greyhound, some prefer professional service.

There is no denying two things, one WN is very successful and has really hurt the other airlines we all like. Two, they do not serve REALLY small cities. We're talking ITH, ELM, etc., places that would have no air service if the legacies went away. Now being a student in ITH, I have a love/hate relationship with US, we're the capital of BlowFares ($360+ to LGA), and always suffering delays and cancellations, but without them what would we do? Drive an hour + to SYR every time we had to fly?

So aside from my personal opinion, if all the legacies restructure to be like WN, there are going to be a lot of abandoned communities.

That's funny for US Airways to say that Southwest is a "no-frills" airline, when US has cut every single frill they ever had except for the frequent flyer program (which matters to us but not the typical airline passenger).

Who ever said business was fair?

Tell you this: when flying from one "big city" to another, I feel less like somebody has felt me up going for my wallet on Southwest than US of late.

This is on trips from the sprawling metropoli of Raleigh to Cleveland, BTW.

Right, but they make money (in some cases, at a much cheaper fare) than others, US included. See my post above.

You can be all things to all people. You can also be in bankruptcy. It strikes me that Southwest tries to avoid both, with good reason.

I am, and although I find the "Southwest sucks!" line to be in poor taste, I'm not (yet) prepared to kill the thread over it. I feel this way largely because I find that the contrast between the two airlines mentioned to be interesting, especially considering the stereotypes (many of which you've attempted to further) that have been tossed about.

Think "shareholder value," "employees as an asset," and "rational business plan" in order to set the tone. When I'm done laughing, I'll be able to elaborate.....

Yeah, US is just like WN. Except for the international routes, F (sort of - still a large seat), assigned seating, *A, etc. WN is truly a no frills airline. Some people love that about them, some people hate it, but there's no arguing it. Even B6 with their DirecTV can call WN no frills.

Don't forget that US even serves the country's largest city -- New York!

Let's call Southwest garbage because the individuals that run that airline know how to make a profit and not run the airline into the ground.

[T]he important thing is they can send you where you want to go.

At least SWA cannot do this for a lot of people now.In the long run, if an airline loses money, it will go out of business.

Then it cannot send you where you want to go, either. So you have answered your own question.

Living on a small, remote island, part of the U.S. but still 6000 miles away, I still understand that there is no "right" to air service in out-of-the way locations. There is generally not enough demand for the full range of carriers to be found in a bigger market.

What was the last airliner merger that you saw work well?

I am told two insignificant regional airlines merged some time last year. I think it was a bit of a disaster.
Hint: One of the airlines in that merger was from the Netherlands.

I should have guessed when you post something like that it will draw the WN bashers (and supporters) out of the wood work. I'm relatively ambivalent; I'm glad WN is here in PIT, it provides me a quick way to get to Chicago or Philly, and I use the RR I earn to go to Las Vegas, another one of my top destinations. But I'm glad I still got millions of miles banked on AA, UA, US and DL for trips outside the continent.

My point of the post was why USAirways didn't name the airline they were talking about. Probably some lawyer told them not to, I suppose, but still seemed pretty wussy to me.

35-40 miles from Manhattan is hardly "serving it". It more serves Long Island.
