View Full Version : Shock! Horror! UA 1K put in "Group 5".

I've been flying US every week for the past 30 weeks or so (thanks in advance for your condolences). Every week, I book on USAirways.com and put my UA Mileage Plus number in. Every week, I check-in using the Easy Chicken machines. Every week, voila, Mr. Chicken spits out a boarding card with my MP number at the bottom and "1K" under my name. Every week, I'm in Group 1.

So imagine my surprise and dismay this week when Mr. Chicken produced a boarding card with "Group 5" printed in large letters! Oh the humanity! Upon further inspection, my MP number was printed in the usual spot (and was correct), but the "1K" did not appear under my name. Inconceivable!

The only difference with this particular ticket is that it is a triangle BOS-LGA-PIT-BOS, whereas all of my previous tickets have been simple LGA-BOS or LGA-PIT round-trips.

Any thoughts? The US GAs I spoke with were all baffled.

Happed to me a couple of weeks ago. Apparently there are 2 places they can enter your MP number and the had entered it in the wrong place. The agent was able to do it and print me a new BP with GP1.

It happened to me yesterday. Online chicken printed mine as a US GP in seating 2, but didn't print my GP# on the BP. I asked the GA at ORD (I took seating 2 just fine in GSO) and she looked and corrected it. I then had to get new BP's last night in SFO for my return (thru LAX), and then had to get the Chautauqua GA at IAD to fix it this morning too. Somehow when the rez was created these UA folks don't know how to put a US DM# in correctly via a phone rez. This makes 2 for 2 in times they've done it for me... or not done it for me would be more correct. ;)

It had happened to me before as well...didn't bother getting a new boarding pass though, just gave them the Zone 4 or whatever on the boarding pass during Zone 1 (or 2) boarding and showed them my card...they didn't give me any grief when that happened.

Yeah if the line is too long for the GA or you don't feel like dealing with them, just show your card at the gate, they'll let you in with 1 or 2 no problem.

Just a side note, I think they'll let anyone board whenever they want, depending on the airport. I was on a LAX-PHL flt not too long ago and all kinds of random people were boarding with 1 and 2. I don't think they should be militant about it like DL, but they should enforce the zones to some extent, for nothing other than making just the benefits don't get diluted and to prevent congestion in the jetway/plane.

I have had the same happen on occasion, but the GA has always just said, "Go ahead and board when we call CP / *G / *S etc." Then again, most of my US flights of late have either been "Welcome all rows, all zones aboard at this time!" or boarding by row # rather than the zone, so it's not like it's mattered (FWIW, I still usually board near the front and get the coveted bin space near my seat).

The US check-in machines seem particularly bad at losing the early-zones for no-status pax on the same PNR, but again, the GAs seem pretty willing to just let my flying companions board when I do.

Just curious...if you don't have the status on the BP, do you still get the bonus miles?

The one time I was on a revenue ticket when this happened, I did get the bonus miles posted. The other times I was on award/VDB inventory, so it didn't matter...
