Any suggestions if we have no clue where to go out to eat? What is your favorite dining spot?

If you can be little more specific on what you want to eat (e.g. high end/low end, formal/casual, ethnic region, location etc. etc.) I'd be happy to provide a few suggestions. I live in Winnipeg and live to eat.

Looking more towards middle of the road types of meals. We are staying downtown at Fort Carry and have eaten at Earls a few times but are looking for something new and different.

Pasta la Vista is a 5 minute walk (north on Garry, West on St. Mary). http://www.wowhospitality.ca/restaurants/pastalavista.html
Amici/Bombolini is about three blocks west of the Fort Garry on Broadway - a little higher end but a good high end lunch value.http://www.amiciwpg.com/
Tre Visi is a nice little Italian spot in the Exchange District (probably a $6 cab ride or a 15 minute walk)http://www.10bestcityguides.com/details.process/OID_0D9A56E1/MID_388/CID_1/SID_145/BID_50846/
Good Indian at East India Company - 10 minute walk (west on Broadway, north on Carlton to York) http://www.eastindiaco.com/
Over in the Forks you could try Muddy Waters SmokeHouse http://www.wowhospitality.ca/restaurants/muddywaters.html
Be sure to get Fries at VJ's on Main Street across from the train station (spitting distance from the Fort Garry)
Another Earls like place is the Freehouse in Osborne Village ($6-8 cab ride 15-20 minute walk) http://www.thefreehouse.com/freehouse?pageid=35
A small Chinatown is about a $6 cab ride away. I'd recommend the Kum Koon Garden. Also close by but not quite in Chinatown is Foon Hai - good and cheap northern Chinese. Little Saigon is a great Vietnamese place almost next door to Foon Hai.
I've not been yet but people are raving about the recently opened (and already moved) Mirlycourtois Brasserie. The Chef/owner has been in Winnipeg a long time and is highly respected.
That should be a start.... let me know if you need more or have any questions.
