Well, one of the supposedly top restaurants in Germany is in Dusseldorf, Kaiserswerth district:

Im Schiffchen
Kaiserswerther Markt 9
D-40489 Düsseldorf
Telefon (02 11) 40 10 50
Telefax (02 11) 40 36 67
Website (http://www.im-schiffchen.com/)

I ate there a few years ago, and it was very good.

This site (http://www.schlemmer-atlas.de/searchresult.php?city=Duesseldorf&land=) will give you some guidance as to what there is in DUS - but in German only. No info on Monheim.

I just took a look at www.monheim.de and you're right, interesting. No listings for restaurants or anything. Good luck, sorry I couldn't help.

Are you within train distance or striking distance of Cologne? There are some terrific places there if you're interested.

The better restaurants will be either in Dusseldorf or Cologne.

The Restaurant "Im Schiffchen" is one of the best in Germany; the prices are app. 200 EUR / person. It would me more a restaurant for formal dinig. The also have an smaller Bistro styled restaurant in the same building.

You will find many good places where you can eat in Dusseldorf and Cologne, it depends a little bit, what your preferences are?

But Monheim, it is not quite a place for a good dining.

OP here. Thanks for the input. Regretablly I am carless, and I am finding myself quite busy at the client . . . thus leaving little time for exploring. There is food here, however the offerings are not plenty. I would offer this, ordering food from a menu written in German is a daunting task . . . two nights in a row, I've had to "guess" at what I have ordered. It's all edible though. Thanks for the input, I'm off to the US tomorrow . . . So its back to the frauline's home cuisine.

I spent about 6 weeks at a client in Monheim a couple of years ago - the only food worth the effort was to be had in Duesseldorf!! Get yourself on a train there and head for one of the Chinese restaurants near the main train station. They are the most authentic Chinese restaurants in Germany, if you are so inclined.

What Hotel did you stay at?
