Has anyone tried the The Signature Room at the 95th (http://signatureroom.com/) ®, located atop the John Hancock Center in Chi-town?

Looks pricey with most entrees in the $30s range. Are you just paying for the view, or is the food quality that good?

Food quality is mediocre for the price. You are paying for the view. If you want the view, skip the buffet and go have overpriced cocktails instead.

Go to the signature buffet instead. It's Monday thru Sat ($18). Or go for night drinks. Same view, much cheaper. Plus I don't remember the food being that outstanding, so don't waste your money here.

By the way, 2 blocks away next to the Sofitel ( I think on Wabash / Chestnut), there is a wine bar called CRU. Very good selection of wine by glass, great food, and friendly service. Check that out after your trip to John Hancock.

Yes, don't go to the signature room, go to the signature lounge (actually 1 floor up from the "room") and enjoy some cocktails or hors d'oeuvres and pretty much the same view.

Another vote for just the lounge. And while the drinks aren't cheap, I don't think it's that much more than what you'd have to pay to go to the observation deck otherwise.
