Would A330 row 1 be made available to restricted envoy class ticket holder and star gold member? Would the US Air agent in Europe (e.g. Germany) reserve a seat in row 1 for me if I call?

I believe row 1 is open to people holding paid envoy tickets and CP members upgrading with DMUTA's. Since you are in the first category it should be possible. I do not think they distinguish between C or Z buckets. Star Gold will not hurt but probably won't help.

I agree. Envoy is Envoy. I've flown on some cheap J fares in the off season and had no problem getting Row 1, even in my pre-CP days, otherwise known as the dark ages! :D

I was on paid Z fare and was denied row 1 repeatedly. Only for CPs, they told me on the phone.

Inoffical channels made it happen, eventually, and I must say, row 1 is a good place to sleep. At least as good as LH's new C class.

I too was on a Z fare, and they said nope. Only C class pax (ie, C booking class), and CPs. I've also been on C fare basis, and was also initially denied. When I asked to speak to the supervisor, they've usually allowed it. Once, while on the C fare, they denied it (so I happily took my $$ to British Airways).

I wish they would educate their agents better, and advertise better. I think more people on C fares may consider US as an option, if they realize they would get a flat bed. God knows they need the money.

As Gold and upgrading with Miles I have requested and got Row 1 more than once. Did the policy change?

I guess reading all the posts above, we can infer that if there is a policy it is applied inconsistently.

Did you get this at the gate or confirm it in advance? There is a difference.

They do, only "J" class and CPs allowed in row 1. Sometimes they allow others to sit there if row 1 is not full on the day of departure.

That's also my understanding. If you're eligible for Envoy (paid, miles, or u/g), it never hurts to ask at the gate. If there's room, you might get it.

I've gotten row 1 day of departure as a SP and GP upgrading.
