just missed my 10:50pm CLT to ILM b/c of a mechanical delay affecting my connecting flight. i got to the gate at 10:58 to see the plane pulling away and wondered how long US will usually wait? I'm sure it might vary; the agent said they had held it to 10:55 (we pulled in at 10:50 on the nose, but I was sitting in the back of the first flight). if that was true, i don't really understand why they couldn't have waited two more minutes for the guy sprinting from 8 gates away...

i'm on the standby list for the first flight out tomorrow, HOPING i don't get bumped (can those with status bump me? i assume so), but i have a bad feeling that i'm not going to be on that CRJ. :(

If it's the last of the night then they'll usually hold as much as reasonably possible, but they can't hold too much or crew might time out. If they wait too long, then the crew expires and no one gets to go to the destination. Even worse is if they won't get in until too late to get their allocated sleep and it causes a delay on the first flight out the next morning.

Earlier flights usually go on time no matter what because of how the delays cascade through the system.

If it was their fault and MX, they should confirm you for the flight in the morning, not put you on standby.

They don't hold them at all. Be warned about that. Some moron has apparently indoctrinated the workforce about pushing up total on time stats for the whole company, and they seem to think shoving these planes early is more important than waiting 3 minutes. The other night at DCA, they pushed my Express flight to White Plains 15 minutes early, on what was sold to me as a 30 minute connection. Upshot: it had 9 people on it. I wonder how the loads have dropped like that...duh..

Probably because late flights caused 20 folks to misconnect due to the early departure. ;)

When they're running load factors of 90% there probably aren't any seats to confirm someone in for 3 or 4 days...
