Will be in Delhi in June & was thinking of touring Agra, Udaipur etc for a few days. I'm not so fussed about the heat, but is the rain a major issue in June? Some agents say I'll be ok as it really gets going in July, others say it's really bad in June!

Early June is bad in terms of heat and not necessarily rain. The heat is really, really bad in my opinion. Then again I'm a mountain goat. :D

Most June rains are pre-monsoon and not that heavy. If you hit monsoon rains, then road/train travel can be a headache.

Mine too. I went to Delhi for the first time in June 1998 (all my successive trips have been between October and February!) and the temperature topped out at 46 C. I thought I had taken a wrong turn and ended up on the planet Venus. Absolutely unbearable, especially if you are outside in the blazing sun touring sites like the Taj Mahal.

I was last there in 97. Landed in the middle of the night from FRA and it was something like 45C! Day time, all i managed to do was get some sleep. Didn't dare step out. This was in Sep.

June will be hot and humid. The trains aren't air conditioned, at least not like they are here. Don't take anything less than first class if you go by rail -
you'll be miserable (and crowded). I always take food and water to avoid "Delhi belly" when I'm away from a known safe source. Travelling by private car is easier and gives you more flexibility. If you go to Udiapur, stay at the Lake Palace.
