Since US is the only program to offer a bonus for Amazon (the real holy grail of online shopping), I wanted to take advantage. However, I've tried NUMEROUS times to get the stupid bonus bar to install, and it never shows up!
At first, I thought that maybe US didn't want to give out those extra miles. But since miles (especially from shopping) don't cost too much (if anything), I have to think there is something else wrong. It is hard to imagine I'm doing anything wrong here since all you do is install it like acrobat or any other type program! And with all those darn spyware things installing themselves (YES I MEAN YOU STUPID YAHOO BAR), I know my computer will support them!
And the first thing I know people are going to say is did I turn it on. So to avoid that question, yes. I went to view, explorer bar, and then checked the Advantax Bonus Bar. It's checked right now, but it won't show up! My computer meets the qualifications, so I don't know what gives.
Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, were you able to fix them? HOW??????????? I'm starting to lose my patience with it. I want the bonus miles for using amazon, but there are other ways (i.e. giftcertificates.com through AA or UA). And the more miles I earn with those airlines, the less I'm going to be loyal to US. So really US loses because of stupid crap like this. I do live in the Southeast, so it can at times be US or DL, but with UA making TYS a focus city (to compete with Fly-I......please let them hang on), the choice isn't as cut and dry anymore.
If anyone has any advice, please share because I'm frustrated beyond belief!

I had the exact same problem, and like many other usairways.com-related funcionalities, I threw my hands up in the air in frustration & gave up.

I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the same results.

You can find it under dividend miles and partners. It's the retail shopping one online mall.
I also tried numerous times to uninstall and re-install, but it didn't work for me either. I'm glad to know others are having the same problems (which confirms it's not me), but it's very frustrating to say the least!

What operating system are you using? It used to work well under Windows 95/98/ME, but I've found it almost impossible to use under 2000 or XP. One suggestion they offer is to log off and log back on or reboot after installation. That *might* work. But don't count on it.

Slightly OT, but you can earn miles on Amazon purchases by performing a painless intermediate step -- buy electronic e-mail gift certificates from Giftcertificates.com. The last time I used this method, the electronic gift certificates came later the same day, and there was no additional cost.
Giftcertificates.com participates in many of the airline malls, and by doing this, you avoid the headaches of installing un-installing the bonus bar.

however, don't forget you lose any protection (e.g. double warranty) you might have had with a credit card if you buy through this route.
after purchasing from amazon, i just e-mail the receipt to dividend miles customer service. never had a problem getting credit, and it usually posts within a couple of days.

Windows 98. Thanks I'll try it. But I won't hold my breath.

Actually, I mentioned that:

I'm using XP. And I tried logging off and on again. No dice.

Good thinking on both accounts. I hadn't considered either. Do you email DM or the DM Mall customer service? I'll definitely be doing that from now on.

I e-mail the Mall's customer service. I also include a brief statement about how their Bonus Bar fails to function properly on my browser and had been instructed previously to e-mail them for manual crediting. This is a known issue for them, so they'll do it no questions asked.

Sorry -- I focused in on your first statement in the OP and didn't see this.

My Bonus Bar was working fine until I installed one of those Microsoft Security updates- ever since, no dice on the Bonus Bar. I reported the problem to Customer Service and was told the problem was widespread, there is no current fix, and faxes of the Amazon transactions would be accepted. I've submitted 10 or 11 Amazon.com transactions in 2 faxes and gotten almost immeduate credit for all purchases. My understanding is that they are trying to re-write the code to make the Bonus Bar functional with new updated Windows (I'm not holding my breath!) ;)
