I couldn't find the answer after a search. I'm a companion pass holder on WN. Does US comp from WN? If so, at what level?

Send them some evidence of your travel patterns and ask.

Right now US ought to be comping punch cards from the local coffee shop...

How about a page full of stamps from Subway? :D

I think that'll get you CP. And a sandwich for your trans-con ;)

Don't rush into a comp. When WN comes into CLT this will be the bird you will fly on.

After the merger (http://www.cardatabase.net/modifiedairlinerphotos/search/photo_search.php?id=00001355)

I had a feeling my post would elicit some entertaining replies.

I figure if I got comped to silver on US, maybe I would have a better chance of getting treated like I do on WN :D

I'd argue that the punchcards from my local coffee shop are more valuable...save up a few of them and you get a real coffee mug, no plastic glasses!

I hope US would issue me a new preferred card rather than tape together one of the cut up cards that a few FTers have sent back.

Welcome to the dark side. You're going to fit right in. :D

I didn't know that WN had status. I though cattle was cattle

Oh yes, Southwest has elite levels. Unlike most airlines with Silver and Gold, Southwest is USDA Choice (Silver) and USDA Prime (Gold)

:p

Ah yes, but extra special cattle get the opportunity to choose one cattle* to accompany them on all their flights during the year. As cattle can be quite fickle, WN even lets you change your cattle selection 3 times per year. ;)

As a US elite, what sort of gift can I expect from US for Flag Day? I received a present from WN for Valentine's Day so I would imagine US would do the same. Perhaps a wide selection of lipstick shades?

*I'm a big believer in subject-verb agreement, but apparently there is no singular version of "cattle." Maybe it's cause they're never alone?

Does anyone know if US ever comps to CP if you can show over 100k miles on big competitor?

Southwest does not recognize elite status in the ways others do. However, they offer a truly unique and very valuable award upon earning 100 credits per year. The Companion Pass allows one to pick anybody to travel as your companion for 1 year - for free. (although you do incur minimal fees). This even includes your free rapid reward tickets, essentially doubling that award.

The problem with the benefit is that it rewards people in massively different ways. I for one, rarely travel with anyone. It would matter very little to me. Others, would use it on every trip.

Not to mention - comanion pass holders still have to stand in the same line for check-in, security and boarding. Sit in Y. And get no more frequent flier miles than your average peon (or Grade D Prison-Special Cattle).

Absolutely. That is my one complaint with the companion pass benefit. If you're married or have someone who you travel with all the time, it's great. But I too usually travel alone so it's really of no benefit to me.

There have been exceptions granted, but if I told you what they were I'd have to kill you (If you're that curious you can PM me). It's great from WN's perspective though. It seems the average person uses the companion pass just four times a year.

I showed 250k on 3 big competitors (100k/100k/50k, no *A) and they gave me Gold + a CP challenge which I easily met.

First class is always nice, but the coach product on WN is the best I've experienced domestically (I have not flown Jet Blue or Song). There are definitely things I don't like about WN - no standby without upgrade to full fare...Well actually, I guess that's about the only thing I really don't like.

I don't mind not having an assigned seat. I always check in online and I can leave my house an hour before my flight and walk right on board at the end of the "A" line. No waiting whatsoever and I've never been stuck in a bad seat.

I appreciate the service I get on WN. I've had some really bad experiences with US and a few really good ones, however, there's no consistency. I've had a few bad experiences with WN too (mostly during the summer of 2000), but I've flown WN much more than US in the last five years.

WN may not offer standard elite benefits, but I definitely feel like my business is appreciated. I book through WN's business channel SWABIZ and my sales rep periodically checks in via e-mail. I've been using SWABIZ for almost a year now and in that time, I've been given two free roundtrips (not as part of the FF program), offered free Orioles tickets and invited to a cocktail party and the BWI new concourse grand opening.

That may not sound very impressive, but understand 90% of my travel is for leisure and I tend to book pretty cheap fares. I probably generated only about $2,000 for WN last year.

Of course WN can't take me everywhere I'd like to go. That's why I'm here.

And you obviously haven't flown UA in E+. That is truly the best coach product in the industry. I haven't flown with B6 or Song, but my guess is that it's even better than theirs.

And as a US elite, you get a seat in E+ when flying UA.

UA E + is no better or worse than Jetblue or ong. One could make a great case for the LCC's being better due to more legroom (on B6) and the personal IFE and leather seat....

You obviously have not flown on UA. Economy plus is a 36 inch seat pitch with about an 18 inch width

Actually I have several times. UA E+ is 35 inch pitch and 18 inch width. Jetblue width is 34 inch behind row 12 and 36 inch pitch in the exit row, which I snag most of the time an I why I probably never notice a difference between UA E+.. Im pretty sure Jetblue seats are 18 inch width as well across the board. The aforementioned seats, IFE don't exist on UA also. I like UA's product, and E+ is solid, but we are talking about 1 extra inch of pitch on UA E+. Its at parity at best w/ Jetblue. The IFE and leather seats might give teh in-flight product edge to B6.

Bottom line they are all better than US Y....

Another nice feature with UA E+ is the middle-seat blocking for UA and *A elites. I flew UA on Monday and last night to/from LAS, and both times the planes were nearly full. The only open seats (in both directions)were the middle seats next to me, and a few other people. Even on a short hop, the empty middle seat combined with 4"-6" of extra legroom makes a world of difference.
