Does anybody have any idea why the Pit-Lga route saw such a sharp price hike for travel beginning in May. Put in any trip with saturday night overstay and 3 weeks advance booking and the ticket is suddenly $341 vs $180-$200 previoulsy.

Lack of competition is probably the reason. Only US flies from PIT-LGA; CO does PIT-EWR and DL has PIT-JFK.

Will the new beast of the northeast (Southwest) get on and/or competitive on this route? Ever? Maybe US is just price gauging while they can out of PIT.

Yea, someone is visiting us next week from PIT and just refused to pay it. Booked PIT-DTW-LGA on NWA for about $100 less per ticket. Ive seen it pop up to ridiculous levels periodically.

I have family who live in LGA. I told them to either take Amtrak or a Chinatown bus to Philly and then fly Southwest from Philly to Pittsburgh. Total cost about $120.

Often when I have seen it high just doing EWR instead of LGA cuts it down to a reasonable level.

I've done both PHL and EWR when the LGA fares are unreasonable. Each time I end up kicking myself though, as LGA is just so darn convenient. 15 minutes after leaving my apartment I'm heading through security. On my return I can usually count on being back home 30 minutes after landing, opposed to the 1.5hr it took me from EWR 2 weeks ago.

It's to make up for the yields that tanked everywhere LUV offers a ticket to ex-PIT starting 4-May. Alas, they don't fly to LGA.
Actually, they might with the ATA codeshare, but that would involve going PIT-MDW-LGA, which US probably assumes people won't do, either.
