They didn't get it quite right though:
The newspaper also reported that some of those buying seats are not intending to travel and instead bought the tickets to get the frequent flyer miles.
No, really...we'll have to earn those miles...many hours in the seat of a B1900 and sitting at that picnic table at ART!!!

"The newspaper reported that the Web site flyertalk.com alerted many of the ticket buyers to the availability of the cheap seats, posting an alert to its members."
Where do I sign up for alerts on FT.
"The airline also was hit by what its chief executive termed a "meltdown" of its baggage system during the Christmas holiday. That problem resulted in it sending some flights out of its Philadelphia hub without any bags and the executives of US Airways being sent thousands of tubes of lipstick in protest."
Got to love that last line.... :D
And our newest media star ..............
It said Alexandria, Va., resident Alysia Brown bought 12 tickets, arranging a series of stopovers on one journey taking her from Baltimore to Watertown to Houston and back for a total of $39, including airport taxes.
"I'm going to make out pretty good on the miles," she told the newspaper.

CNN misinterpreted the Washington Post article. I guess the person at CNN read this line:
"Many of the travelers decided to take the flights not because they wanted to visit the cities but to snatch up frequent flier miles."
& decided that we weren't actually going to visit the cities because who on earth flies just for the miles (as opposed to flying to visit a city)

For starters, the last 3 posters in this thread, plus the person typing this. ;)
IIRC, the 4 of us were all scheduled to take the same RT from PHL to MHT one Saturday back in January? :p
