Turned on the Philly TV Station to look at the annual Mummer's Parade and guess whose sponsoring it but SWA. Logo on the TV screen the entire time along with their inflatable SWA airplane.

This is a Philly tradition. US lost another opportunity, while SWA builds its presence. With all their promoting, you'd think they were the dominate airline in PHL, instead of having about the same number of flights as UA or DL. Perception may win the race, unless US gets its act together both operationally and in their PR department.

Granted U may not have money to spend on tv, but along with their sport team sponsorships, SWA has become the "local" airline. US has got to get their PR act together and do things at low cost to reinforce they are PHL's airline--and that doesn't mean losing bags.

SW must have cut this deal before the "Christmas Meltdown" in PHL. SW received free promotion by US's IAM with the fiasco orchestrated by the union.

Please post your evidence of this being "orchestrated by the union"

Sorry, you're right. It's possible that these guys were all genuinely sick and left the airline in a lurch on one of the busiest travel day of the year because they were all in bed. The company and other unions inferred that the action was union related, but sorry Mr. Mason the evidence is purely circumstantial.

There certainly could not be a coincidence between the Christmas Meltdown and the contract hearing coming up the week after the holiday either.

By the way.....I have a bridge for sale, interested? :D

Sure, that's why the company has said that it wasn't union related. People call out at the holidays all the time, and I don't doubt for a minute that all of them are not in bed with chicken noodle soup. This of course, is not the same thing as saying the sick outs were "orchestrated" by the union.

Who is the union? Its members. No members no union. The union members certainly did orchestrate the fiasco. How many call offs at WN or CO? No where near the number US suffered I assure you.

Once again, this is not the same as "orchestrated by the union".

Union is its members. So it was orchestrated by the union. The real issue here is that US wont speak the truth, they dont want to ruffle anymore feathers. But they have enough problems they don't wont be on record as pointing the finger. A few months from now the truth will be told.

You comments are intellectually dishonest. When one hears the phrase "orchestrated by the union" one most likely does not ascribe your meaning.

From what I understand, sponsorhsips like this are lined up quite some time in advance. I think USAir might have weighed the options--after being in bankruptcy once already--and decided that the money would be better spent elsewhere.

At this point though, even if SWA hadn't beaten them to the punch, would a bankruptcy judge have allowed them spend cash on such a thing?

If it wasn't "orchestrated" by the union members, then how did so many just happen to be out on the same day? It just takes a few to start the ball rolling before it snowballs. That's orchestration, even if it's a maistro leading a middle school band.
