I think it used to be (and may still be) possible to book it as a saturday night stay and then make a change to the dates after it's booked. Shady trick, but it used to work...

I know some airlines have started charging a fee to make any changes to the 25,000 (or 20,000) mile coach awards. Don't know if US is one of them, but that could change things if you would have to pay $50 or $100 to make the change.
