Just curious - how far in the future have you all been booking on US? I'm primarily a leisure traveler & the only future trip I have is a trip to FCO at the end of March on US & LH. My route is SEA-us-PHL-lh-FRA-lh-FCO-lh-FRA-us-PHL-us-SEA. My return is upgraded to Envoy (this was going to be my chance to experience transatlantic business class on US).
Before, I wasn't too worried about US going out of business - I was sure they'd survive the turmoil - but now, whereas I'd like to see them survive (as I do have a few friends that work for US & overall, I'd hate to see the airline go under), I'm not so confident - especially when I feel that some employees aren't helping the cause by their sick-day.
So, my question to you all, the regular US Frequent Flyers, how far are your tickets booked into 2005?

My last flight is 1/18 from SJU to to DCA via PHL....I'm not booking anything more than 2 weeks out on them from this point on. I hope I'm being overly cautious, but it must be done.

I'm booked out to late March at this point with a *A award in November. I just booked two transcons this morning--late Jan and mid-Feb.

Today (12/29/04) I just booked 4 tickets PHL to AUA for Thanksgiving week '05. Of course I used miles - I'm not THAT optimistic!
P.S. I tried to do it online twice and I got to the last screen before being bounced out. I called the CP international line and did the booking with a very nice agent. However, I thought her first response to me, after I gave her my destination, was amusing. She said, before checking any US flights, "I'll check what *A partners fly there." She seemed a bit taken aback when I said I wanted to fly US. She did thank me, however. I real nice lady. People like that should not have to be associated with the folks who caused the melt-down.

March 30, 2005 award travel IPT-ATL returning 4/3. I am double screwed if they go under since IPT is a US commuter airport only with no other service :( This is a much anticipated golf trip with some friends, I am pondering if I should consider other arrangements??

Jan. 17 returning from LAS to CLT (outbound is on the 13th). I used miles, but am pondering some runs to take advantage of the 20k Preferred bonus miles promotion (if the miles for this year would hurry up and post). Otherwise, it's a wait and see to see how Jan. 6 goes and the labor response to it.

My last paid ticket is to FAY on April 9. I have a UA award ticket to HGR on June 24.
Keeping fingers crossed!

So April 2005 seems to be the latest for a paid ticket. I have an award ticket PIT-LAS in Jan and PIT-SJU in April. I'm giving myself 50/50 odds on the January trip, and I don't think I have any chance on the SJU flight. I have 80,000 miles in suspense (ie I could pay $100 to recredit them from a cancelled award flight, but they are good till August next year, and I figure if USAirways makes it that far, then anything can happen and I'm going to double down on 15 next time LOL ) along with another 80,000 miles banked.
Now that it's clear that PIT security takes any airline elite card for the Preferred line, I'm crediting all my US flights to UA (except for anything I book on the award-winning USAirways.com, since that 20k bonus is still decent) and booking more Delta. The second biggest carrier at PIT may soon be the first!

My only booking outstanding is for award tickets RDU-BOS leaving 1/21 and returning 1/23. If US Airways makes it through the outstanding January issues (new labor contract and GE loan), then in Feburary I MIGHT look at more bookings, but not for anything TOO far out.

Award tix to MCO January, revenue tix in April to RDU, award tix to OGG/LIH/KOA in August mostly on UA but with the last leg LAX-PHL on US.
Will be going to HAM/EIN/LGW last week in Jan - fully anticipate booking on US.

Not to be a purveyor of gloom and doom, but I cancelled my future tix on US, which had been booked through mid Feb 05. My clients won't be terribly sympathetic if I get stranded or miss meetings - which is why it was "strongly suggested" by my company to book away from US, even if you live in a hub.
Hopefully, they'll make it through this and things will settle down, but rules are rules... :(

OK, FWIW I just got off the phone with a good longtime friend of mine who has a friend who is an FA for US. Ok, I understand the unreliability of that chain, but I will tell you what he said she said anyway: "the word is that US Airways will liquidate sometime in the first two weeks of January". Your call as to whether to believe it or not.
Who knows maybe she is repeating something she read here on FT, and not something she heard from US. But if employees did here it from US, then it would make the employee apathy and negligence understandable, even though it is not ethical. It would also make sense of a number of other things read on this web site like overhearing baggage handlers laughing and saying customers haven't seen the worst yet. Perhaps US management waiting until after Christmas and New Years is an attempt to "do the right thing", and if that is the case, for those employees who showed up and worked with dignity my hat is off to them. To think that the baggage fiasco was bad, what would it have been like if they went C7 in mid December? Talk about ruining Christmas. That would have affected many more people, although the ones that were affected this past weekend may disagree with my argument.

If US is going Ch 7 -- they won't tell the rank and file employees until it is done. Management may not be that smart, but they are smart enough to keep that quiet.

Good point. Not to mention that if it was the case that employees had advance knowledge, I would think news media would have picked up on it by now and reported something along the lines of unsubstantiated rumors indicate, anonymous sources, etc.

Flying the U to work in DCA and SDF Feb 28 and March 1.
Everything else will be short notice, but they will get my business next year.
