OK. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up but I thought I would relay something I heard last night on MSNBC's Countdown show with Keith Olberman.

I don't know how credible this guy is, but yesterday, Olberman had some guy on discussing the safety of US Air miles in light of the meltdown of US Air at PHL over the weekend. I had thought that Randy would have popped onto the screen, but it was some guy from Airline Business magazine or some such name.

In any event, he went over strategies that will sound quite familiar to those of us here. Some of what he said I think is plainly wrong, or wonder where he gets his information, but here goes:

1). Donate your miles (My comments in these parentheses: In light of what happened in the Indian Ocean this weekend and the fact that US Air is a member of the Star Alliance, this might do some people some good);

2). Book on a Star Carrier with a PAPER TICKET (Of course he did not say whether or not the carrier was obligated to honor those tix and that it appears that a paper ticket in light of a decision not to honor them is any safer than an E-Ticket, but this was his advice);

3). Use Points.com (Of course, he neglected to advise the public tghat only those who have a Dividend Miles Visa can convert their Div miles into another frequency program currency, but what the heck, it's only a small detail, right? :rolleyes: ); and now the most intriguing one;

4). You can use your Dividend Miles to purchase the merchandise you see in the catalog on US Air flights.

Given the guy's above track record, I don't know what to think as to whether or not this statement is accurate, as well, but in the interests of the general FT public good, I thought I would pass it along, seeing that this is the first time I have heard of this use of Dividend Miles. YMMV.

Good Luck!
