I have 19,350 miles so far this year. If I understand some of the promotions correctly I can (because of the 20 year promotion) get 2,000 miles by buying my ticket at USAIR.com and by using my dividend miles Visa get a 50% mileage bonus. It sounds to me like I need a 1,000 mile round trip to requalify for SP. Am I correct in my assumptions and can anyone recommend a destination from BWI that would increase my chances of upgrading with miles?
thanks

In case of the DM VISA promotion, it's only valid for certain (expensive) fare types.

I had no trouble upgrading DCA-FLL on a MR last Wednesday. (However, it's 899 miles each way, not enough to get you to 25,000 on a cheap fare.)

I don't know anything about the Visa promotion, but I'd be surprised if those bonus miles actually counted toward the 25K you need to fly in order to reach silver preferred.

My recommendation would be to find a cheap transcontinental trip and do that to get the 5650 miles you need.

There is a SP challenge, 6000 miles (on US metal) between 10/1/04 and 12/31/04. It may be easier to qualify this way.

To answer the question about the bonus' I mentioned applying towards preferred, they both do as referenced on USAir website.
I looked in the bonus thread for reference to the SP challenge referenced and didn't find anything. Can someone point me to that info?
Thanks.
