I'll be traveling from LGA-ROC on 12/23 and 12/27 and bioth flights only have 2 seats left and its looking veryu much likean oversold situation. Given U's financial crisis, what have they been giving out for a bump? Is a free RT voucher on a carrier tha might be gone in Feb. worth it? Does anyone think United or Star Carriers will honor US Air bump vouchers..? Also--could I ask for anything else..i.e $200 cash, etc?

Expert opinions appreciated! Thanks,

The usual vouchers for domestic travel, good for a year.

You can try for cash, but my experience domestically has never been very good with that as they usually can get enough people to accept vouchers. Transatlantic is a different matter.

I would not expect other Star carriers, including UA, to accept these vouchers. Even assuming US is still around when you want to use them, they're only good on flights operated by US.

LGA-ROC..Those seem to be full flights fairly often. I was going to take a bump for those mid-November as they were looking oversold as well but took an earlier bump PHL-LGA. They had me sign something for the free voucher which didn't include anything stating $$-off vouchers, only for RTFC vouchers so I'm not sure if this is becoming more widespread or if this was only PHL-F terminal-related.

I'd say take it....They're not *typically* that hard to burn, unless you're flying in and out of some ma and pa EAS station like ITH or BLF... :)

If you'll be using it flying out of ROC I've never had problems with X availability so enjoy!

Come on, JC, with plenty of advance you should be able to use them in BLF or BKW. ;) Most of the time (if I really really wanted), 40K availability is usually available here. 20K might be a problem unless you're in advance.

My question was "is it worth it?"...meaning worth getting bump vouchers for US when they could conceivably be gone in a month...thoughts?

You can always use your bump vouchers the day you receive them.

I'm beginning to believe US will survive but it's still anyone's call. They've made enough progress to make me more optimistic. And while revenue was down (as expected), load factors are up for Nov. vs. 2003 so at least people aren't bailing on the airline.

I have tried to get $XXX credit rather than RTFC's in the past so that I can earn miles and upgrade. However, I just redeemed an RTFC and they have some perks that are worth noting. Any date and time changes for free and destination change for $50. Free standby as well.

And the bump vouchers have no minimum stay requirement. They can easily be worth $600 or more if used right.

YUP

I just used a UA one on a flight that would have cost me $562. No taxes or anything to pay either ;)

As I already made 1K this yr - I will suck it up and fly without earning miles :D

This has always been a question that I've had.

I've flown standby on the return section of award/RTFC tickets without any problems, but I've never tried flying standby on the outbound.

For instance, award availability to EYW is usually pretty limited as its an express station as well as a popular travel spot. I've got a RTFC voucher that I could use for it but I'd probably need to standby. Since even flying from PHL I'd need to connect in TPA (or FLL come schedule change) so how would this work, get standby to TPA/FLL probably without problem and then hangout there until I could get confirmed to EYW? Or would they hold me in PHL until I could get confirmed on all segments?
