I just got a 40,000 mile unrestricted domestic coach ticket on US. However, I just checked my reservation online (on the US site) to make sure that it had my updated seats (was only able to upgrade the return so far), and it says that a paper ticket will be mailed. I found this strange so I called the CP line (first time, as I just became CP today) and was told that it shows e-ticket in their system.

I haven't had a domestic paper ticket in years and just wanted to make sure that I have nothing to worry about. I assume that this is just another case of the US site acting funny. The agent did say that the error is most likely due to the upgraded segment on the return. I don't know why that would do anything though.

Has anyone been required to get a paper ticket on a US domestic ticket in the past few years?

On an unrelated note, I was actually a little disappointed that it took about 6 rings (I even got the recording that no agent was available) before an agent picked up on the CP line. Once one did, she was very, very nice.

I had a similar experience. Bottom line - GET IT WORKED OUT NOW.

Unfortunately, mine was a transatlantic ticket. I had my virtually there itinerary printed out (said e-ticket) but when I went to check in at RDU I handed them my passport and CP card and the agent typed like 3 keys and then just put her hand out. I stared at her and she said "do you have your ticket?" I of course did not, and she said "I was afraid you were gonna say that". Apparently my record somehow said BOTH. But regardless, she couldnt check me in without the paper ticket (which I never got).

She had to call in and get it reissued. I was lucky to get the fee waived even though I did nothing wrong. Oh, also, due to the reissue, etc I lost my seat on the plane and of course upgrades. Just barely made my RDU-PHL flight, and got to PHL and had received a lousy middle coach seat in the back of the 330 (the first one that came available). I volunteered and got a voucher. This was during a really busy time last year, and they couldnt get me to Europe for 3 days so I missed the whole trip (I know, my fault since I volunteered).

Bottom line, dont chance it and make them figure out whats wrong NOW. Too much that can snowball and ruin a trip.

I just called to make a change to my flights and ask about this again.

I was able to make the change over the phone and the change does show online. The agent told me that it shows e-ticket on her end and that I wouldn't have been able to make the change over the phone if paper tickets had been issued.

However, the website does still show that it's a paper ticket.
