View Full Version : I can't take US' crazy pricing

I needed to go from PHL to CLE November 17 returning the 18th. The direct fare is $1050.20. I then checked the airport near my home, ABE, and the fare was $398.40. I would have rather flown out of PHL as it is closer to my office but for that kind of savings I'll back track home to fly out.

What is funny/sad is that I am boarding the EXACT SAME PHL to CLE and CLE back to PHL flights! US now has the privelege of flying me two more segments and giving more miles for $600 LESS. Is it me or does this somehow make sense or maybe cents to the airline?

Every airline does this. I've seen the same thing on Northwest and United. It's the retarded system of the airline industry.

I think Cx4 said it best, BlowFares.

I think the underlying assumption here is that legacy airline fares are priced logically. Currently, that assumption can be made about Southwest, Jetblue, Aitran and a few others.

US can be safely excluded from that assumption.

The airlines mentioned above aren't considered part of the "legacy" carriers; they're considered LCC's. And specifically those carriers have a collapsed/simplified fare structure.

Maybe the assumption should rather be made that LCC's have more logically-priced fares while legacy carriers are less-logical for fare pricing.
