I'm going to Barbados and leaving from ORD and I'll have to connect in PHL. My flight arrives into PHL at 8:57a in Terminal B. The flight to Barbados leaves at 9:30a from Terminal A. Is 30 minutes enough time to get to my next flight? Also how is the service in First? Has anyone recently flown PHL to BGI?

Thanks!

33 minutes is usually not enough time for a connection in PHL. If possible, I'd say push the ORD-PHL flight to an earlier flight (I don't know if there is one or not). Keep in mind that if you miss this flight, I think you have to be rerouted on AA. I flew PHL-BGI and back a little more than a year ago. It was typical US Caribbean first class service. My experience was that the FA was great and did eeverything she could with what she had. Meal was a chicken meal I'd gotten on a flight to SDQ and CUN which was pretty good, but not really substantial. Enjoy Barbados. I loved the island.

Is that a legal connection time?

Getting from terminal B to terminal A isn't a huge distance, but will be 10-15 minutes depending on what gates are assigned to your flight. So, if everything is on time you should be able to walk off one flight, walk to the next gate, and walk right on. Where you'll run into trouble is if the flight from ORD is delayed or you run into any of the legendary issues in PHL. That said, given you arrve at 8:57, I'm not sure you'll have an earlier departure from ORD so you'll probably just have to hope for the best.

Unless you are quite a bit overweight or handicapped, 33 minutes is plenty of time IF the flight from ORD arrives on-time. I've made connections in PHL with only 10 mins without a problem. Yet again, I also don't get short of breath when running from C to A.

The ORD-PHL flight that arrives at 0857 is the earliest flight of the day on US, unfortunately. As USFlyerUS had said, I'd think you *should* be ok as long as the ORD flight is ontime.

Did somebody dare you to book this schedule? ;)

I think if you check the schedule, you will find that if you do miss the one flight/day on US, it's gonna be at least a two step, and possibly a three stepper thru SJU or MIA on AA. ORD and PHL and a 33 minute connection? When I want to gamble, I go to vegas....

I'd honestly call US and try to fly in the night before, even if it requires a room at PHL to do it.

I'd have to agree with Cx4 on this one...get a room in PHL for the night and fly in the night before. Given that its PHL - you're likely to experience a wait on the ground...a wait for a gate or jetway driver...or some other phenomenon that PHL is known for.

Especially with a trip to BGI (my favorite caribbean island!!!) - I wouldn't want to risk it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do :) And have an awesome time in BGI. If you need any suggestions on places to visit or things to do - send me a PM!

Safe Travels,
Chris

I had a 30 minute connection in PHL from the end of B to the end of A west. I ran and made the connection, but my luggage did not. Since I was on my way home, they delivered the luggage to my house. When I went into the baggage office, instead of "may I help you?" they greeted me with "Philly?"

A united agent booked this for me. I didn't bother to look at the connection times until after it was ticketed. I'm using my United miles for the flight, so I'm not sure if they'll let me change the ORD-PHL flight to the night before. I don't want to be stuck in PHL on my honeymoon. By the way, thanks for all of the quick responses.

Since you are using miles, it should be FREE to change to the flight the night before, if there is availability. Call United to find out.

If not, don't sweat it too much, that is a legal connection and you should be okay.

Keep in mind, domestic connections are limited to a max of four hours. International connections are limited to a max of 24 hours! So, flying in the night before and departing the following morning is quite alright given you're flying to BGI -- i.e., it's a legal, valid connection for ticketing purposes.

I flew LGA-PHL-BGI-POS-BGI-PHL-LGA back in August (BGI-POS-BGI on Caribbean Star).

I've seen the erosion of US F service, but I felt that the PHL-BGI-PHL legs were on par with US transcon F, not regular Caribbean F. For breakfast on the way down, we got the 3 choice breakfast, and on the return a nice 2 choice dinner.

BGI is interesting for US - it is one of the few Caribbean destinations (along with AUA I believe) that isn't a turn for them, it is a layover. While sitting in BGI waiting for my flight back to PHL, I noticed that the Captain of the inbound PHL-BGI was a woman who appeared to be no older than 40 years old! At first I thought she was an Express Captain jumpseating, but no... a US mainline Captain! Lets just say I was impressed. Also had a female F/O PIT-LGA on 10/24. How many female pilots does US have left? Turns out the Captain on the PHL-BGI leg was only 44 years old, with 19 years at US.

On the BGI-PHL flight, while cruising at about the 3 hour mark I noticed a sister US A319 flying parallel to us about 2,000 feet below. I pointed it out to the F/C F/A (who was superb), and she actually took the time to call the flight deck and find out what flight it was for me (I didn't have to ask - she knew I was diehard US and got the info for me!). Turns out it was from Providenciales, and she assured me that "our flight will win the race because we are a CLT based flight crew and our pilots are big NASCAR fans." Honestly folks, where else can you get this stuff outside of US Airways?

Enjoy BGI. Note that on your return, the security line can get long because Virgin, British, AMR, CO, along with the Caribbean props (Caribbean Sun/Star, Liat, etc.) all have flights during that time as well.

Long is an understatement. BA's 777 and Virgin's 747-400 leave within about an hour of one another, plus a 757 to MIA (AA) and the occasional Thomas Cook charter (767).
