A scheduling quirk between cities will leave me in Stockholm for 3 days of sightseeing in 2 weeks. Any "must see" things, other than the Vasa and shopping in Gamla Stan :)

I took a boat tour of Stockholm which was very enjoyable. I got mine by simply heading to the water from the main train station as if going to the town hall. There were several to choose from every day.

...when I used to visit Stockholm more often as a teenager, it was always on a cruise from Helsinki. You would have 9 hours in Stockholm (9AM-6PM) - the typical timetable for Stockholm;
1. sleeping until around noon :eek:
2. walking to the nearest Burger King / McDonald's, having "lunch"
3. sometimes walking in Gamla Stan (Old Town) - highly recommended; possibly even visiting a department store
4. getting back to the ferry very early :rolleyes:

But at least the Vasa Museum, Royal Palace and Gamla Stan should be on your list IMHO.

Stockholm has many excellent restaurants and good shopping. The opera company at the Royal Opera is also very good if you like that. The musems to see are the Vasa, the Modern Art, and Skansen, but there are also many others that are interesting depending on your tastes and interests. Some of the trendier clubs have a rather discriminatory door policy so be prepared to put on the right look and attitude if you want to partake in that scene. Overall, it is a beautiful city and people speak English in general. They may seem a bit distant at first but if you initiate conversations with people they will soon warm up to you when they realize you are a foreign visitor.
