US flight #30 LAS-PHL on 9/26 flight attendant in USAir uniform had a medium-sized 'Bush/Cheney 2004' pin on her lapel. It doesn't bother me at all that she supports a different candidate than myself, what really bothers me is that she openly supports any candidate at all while representing USAir! If she wants to wear pins, sell bumper stickers or personally invade Iraq, she is entitled to do so ON HER OWN time. While she is in uniform and working as an agent for USAir, she should be unaffiliated. It upset me and I strongly believe (hope) that I'd be just as annoyed if she was wearing a 'Kerry/Edwards' pin. Does USAir permit employees to make such public displays?
Star Alliance still has some bugs to work out. A friend flew YUL-PHL-LAS on Air Canada and United (United on USAir metal) and back again. Outbound was flawless, checked in for both flights at Air Canada desk, checked bags all the way through. In LAS, friend tried to check in at United because that's who he bought the ticket from and that's the flight number he was assigned. After waiting in line United wouldn't help him, sent him to USAir. USAir checked him in on LAS-PHL but claimed that they couldn't issue his PHL-YUL boarding pass and, worse, they couldn't check his bag all the way through. US claimed that he had to retrieve his checked bags in PHL and then check in new with Air Canada to get his boarding pass and bags checked. RiDICULOUS! What's the point of having an alliance if not all participants can coordinate?
USAir's 757s are really getting old. Look and feel worn out. Dirty. No audio in my row or the row behind me outbound. FA acted surprised (bull!) but offered a genuine apology. I'd say about 50% of my US flights have IFE problems.
757 - 9C outbound, 26D return. Wonderful coach seats - love that legroom.
Flights were 5 and 4 hours respectively. They really could have found a way to offer drink service more than once.
Zone boarding seems to really work. There was no mad rush. Saw one lady try to jump in at the Zone 2 and was kindly rebuffed.
I know that the PHL-LAS flights are the exception, but outbound was full, overbooked as a matter of fact. Return was near full. Impressive for a 6:45AM flight.
All in all, no major complaints to USAir. They got me there safely, on-time and did things professionally and with good customer service. Hope they survive their latest bankruptcy.
