Okay, it's been several years since I've redeemed any miles on US Air (since I do more flying on UA and often book US Air flights through UA), and back then, I would just go to the US Air ticket office on K Street, Washington D.C., and the friendly agents would book the ticket for me. History, I guess.

I figure I better use up my remaining US Air miles now, for a free ticket, most likely on the DCA-LGA shuttle.

What's the best way to do this -- try to navigate the website, or call an 800 number, or what? My departure times will be somewhat flexible (dates are in mid-October), so I'm hoping for some available seats in coach.

You can redeem either online or over the phone. An award will cost 25,000 miles if booked by phone, but only 20,000 miles if booked on the website.

I have a question though....I have a family of 5 and need to book online one ticket at a time (sign on with each FF number). If I do it, I could get to number 3 and then have no award seats left for the other 2.....or is that not a possibility?Is there another way to do this, since even when you call in there are never people available to help?

Try doing a fake booking for 5 awards on the flight all from the same account. If that goes through, then pick up the 5 tickets using separate accounts ASAP.
