I will be in/out of SIN three times in December while on juants in SE Asia. I am booked for the three non-consecutive nights at the Sheraton. I've been to Singapore several times but have not stayed at this hotel. Any comments on this hotel?

Other hotels I have stayed at in SIN are the The Oriental [Mandarin], Conrad Hilton - both in the marina area, and the Marriott [on Orchard]. I liked the Conrad the best.

How does the Sheraton compare to these?

Cheers,

Z

Have you tried doing a search in the Starwood forum? :)

Yes, I did. There's a thread there giving it a nice recommendation, though someone else in the thread countered it. I'm looking for more of comparison with the other hotels I listed above, which is why I posted here.

I stayed at the Sheraton before. If you compare it to the Oriental and the Conrad you will be DISAPPOINTED!

Although it is not bad, the Sheraton is a bit OLD and the facilities is not as good as the other 2.

I will rank it 3.5-4 stars

I stayed there because I am a PLT SPG. But they did not upgrade me to a Suite!

Location wise it is OK but not as good as the others (I mean nothing can meal the Marriott!! Right in the centre of ORchard Rd!)

It will be a 10-15 minutes walk from ORchard road or a 2 minute cab ride or bus ride.

Thanks for the feedback. Actually the Sheraton is closer to Orchard Rd than the Conrad or The Oriental. I think The Oriental is undergoing some type of construction, so they're out. I've stayed at the Marriott on Orchard, but did not really like it as much as the Conrad. I like Conrad the best, but for SPG points sake I may go with the Sheraton. These are just three non-consecutive 1-nighters with fly-outs the next day, so no biggy if the place is not as swank as The Conrad. But, I still haven't decided.

I got my Singapore e-update from The Economist magazine today, and there appears to be some different restaurant entertainment venues I may check out while I am there.

just to add that Sheraton's nearest MRT station is Newton (i hope i'm not wrong!) and that is a station away from Orchard.

& yes, it's confirmed that the Oriental Hotel is undergoing renovations.

As said below, the Sheraton in Singapore isn't up to scratch.

I would be staying at the Intercontinental Singapore. It's right near Bugis -MRT station - 200m tops. It's on Middle Road, so your location couldn't be better.

The price varies between around $150SDG-360SDG and is worth every penny.

"Warning": the construction of the National Library is on-going and situated RIGHT next to the Intercontential. so there may be some noise and dust around the neighbourhood!! :)

Are you following me again? :D

We'll be at the Sheraton Towers during the first week of January.

Ive stayed at the Sheraton in Singapore a number of times, and while Ive never been overwhelmed with the hotel, I would not say that its a bad place to stay (and Im a complainer). Do you have SPG status...? Ive consistently been upgraded at this property, not always to a Suite, but upgraded regradless.

I think the Conrad is overall a better hotel, but only if you get upgraded.... else, the rooms are very small.

Yes, Gold. I am booked there and will stay there. One of the nights will be redeemed with my points.

Makes sense. If you have status then go for the points and ask for your upgrade. You should get it. Yes the property is not a stunner and even though there are other places close to or on Orchard that beat it easily (FS, Shangri La) or are a bit better (Marriott, Grand Hyatt), I believe you'll be just fine there. It is in need of a bit of refurbishment but nothing really major that makes it a dump so to speak. Your rate should be decent too I guess.

Conrad is nice and the Inter-Con too though I have to agree on the noise from the construction site. I stayed at the Inter-Con for about 5 - 6 months and you can't really escape the noise completely regardless of the room (and I have tried most of the suites believe me ;) ). As it is not really close to Orchard I guess it's off the list anyway.

Well, enjoy your time in SIN. Cheers ...

Z-- as posted above, you are on the right track. A mix of points and $$$ plus chances of upgrading seem like your best bang for overall cost.

Have a great stay!!

I've stayed there. Its ok. Not the best location.

In my opinion: Best location is Marriott, Best hotel is Conrad.

So, since Marriott is next door to Hagen Daaz...it wins!
