We are in Singapore for a couple of nights and thinking of visiting the Night Safari on our first night, how far is the Safari from the Ritz Carlton in Marina Square. What is the best easiest way to get there if we are looking to visit around 8pm, is it tube, bus or taxi?

How far is Sentosa, and best way to get there?

Any other recommendations welcome, we are looking at visiting in Raffles and Sentosa for Dolphin swim.

The best way to get to the Night Safari, IME, is taxi. It should take about 20-30 minutes and the cost is about S$20 each way. The Night Safari is a wonderful experience. However, if I were you, I would eat dinner, somewhere in CBD, perhaps at the Ritz-Carlton, before heading out to the Night Safari. Perhaps you can have a light meal in the club lounge beforehand.

Yeah the Night Safari is in a fairly distant area. I would estimate 30 minutes easily. Its a good suggestion to grab a bite and then head there by taxi. Also getting back from there - there are tons of taxis available there. So it shouldnt be an issue.

You can do most of the trails that they have using the tram that they provide. But one of the trails is only walkable - and its a fairly light one. Its worth it to.

Sentosa should be pretty straightforward from the hotel. It might be around 15 minutes by cab away. But for that you might want to spend your entire day. If you havent been to Singapore before - I wonder if spending the day in Sentosa is worth it.

Depending on the kind of traveller you are - you could do other things such as
Visit the ethnic areas like Little India, Chinatown, Arab Street, etc
or
Go shopping
or
Go shopping - did I say that already? (especially for cheap music/movies/etc)

Check out http://www.visitsingapore.com

If you are flying SQ - find out about the Singapore Stopover Holiday. it will provide you with a lot of discounts to attractions and also free access to the a shuttle bus that they run between attractions. http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/app/saa?hidHeaderAction=onHeaderMenuClick&hidTopicArea=StopoverHolidays&currentSite=us&hasCookies=true

In fact unless you are staying at the Ritz on some kind of an award - the singapore stopover would also discount your stay.

Have Fun! Its a great place!

Two questions,

What time does the Night Safari close?

To enjoy fully, how soon should I arrive before the park closes?

Apparently midnight. http://www.nightsafari.com.sg/. I would go when dusk turns to dark @ 7:30pm. Catch the first show and then tour the park. I wouldn't leave at midnight: you should be done by 11pm or so.

I believe the tram ride might be 1.5 hours including one walk around a trail - that includes a walk through a nice enclosed cage - that has some surprise friends.

I forgot about the shows that tide mentioned - not sure what time they are at - but they are nice.

So try and time yourself by the shows if possible. And yeah - you definitely dont want to be in the last group out :)

Its been over 3 years since I have been there - so perhaps my information is a little out of date.

Sentosa is mildly said dull artificial island, 10-15 min taxi ride, but it has one nice view good restaurant in the Beaufort hotel (the twin of Sukhothai Bangkok). Ask conciarge on details and book a dinner there. For tan use the hotel pool area, Sg waters serve the busiest port in the world and the beach is imported sand.
Go everywhere by cab - number 65521111 to call from mobile in remote locations (night safari return). Remember night-fare increases, so do not argue when bill is higher than meter original. Taxi drivers in Sg do not cheat.

You must be totally ignorant to mention dolphins in Sg. The only bigger animal I've seen free for 5 yrs was a giant iguana (3ft), true, in Sentosa. The only bigger one I've seen was 6ft in Sri Lanka (scary).

Raffles - the outside bar is popular with tourists, and bored locals. Spot the locals - in shorts as opposed to other places. I'm bad for names.

The 72 floor restaurant in Swiss hotel is good for drinks/ views, not for food.

Food - Purvis street, Garibaldi?
Drinks - One Fullerton, for its location/view, one bar is upper class than the rest, but not so high.
Indochine Waterfront - good for food, drink, river views.

Methinks in regards to dolphins the original poster was referring to Dolphin Lagoon at Sentosa, as opposed to any freely swimming around off the shore. See http://www.underwaterworld.com.sg/lagoon_txt.html for more information about it (and if you're doing Underwater World, you might as well do the Dolphin Lagoon too, it was an entertaining enough show in my experience :) )

Sorry to dig up this old thread but am trying to figure out if I go to the zoo, which closes at 18:00, and then to the Night Safari, which opens at 19:30, whether there is anything to eat around there (preferably a food court)....

Thanks!

I believe both have food courts. I liked the zoo, but I found the night safari extremely disappointing.

If you like animals, you should really like the Night Safari--a chance to see a lot of stuff -- nocturnal animals moving around -- that you don't ordinarily get a chance to see. Take a taxi up in time for the first show, then take the little 'train' around, then walk a bit. ...Sentosa: forget it. If you're looking for beaches, go to Malaysia.

On the contrary, we really enjoyed the night safari. We liked that some of the animals seemed so close by when you're on the tram. It's a great way to see the animals moving around at night. Plus, being on the tram would save you from walking around in the humidity. We only did one of the trails and the kids loved it.

The night safari is usually quite crowded when it opens at 7PM with big tour groups etc.

As long as you dont have young kids who need to get to bed its actually a much more pleasant experience to arrive at around 9, have a tram tour without the big queue to board and then wander around by yourself until midnight when it closes... The animals seem more active and willing to come out and play once most of the hordes have gone as well..! There are always plenty of cabs out front, whatever time you leave so getting back to your hotel is not an issue..

I meant some real food ;)
Wouldn't mind taking a taxi to get there but don't want to eat 'bongo burgers' or drink 'uluphant cocktails'... :D

Sorry, we made sure we ate first. I just pulled out my map of Night Safari and it shows Ben & Jerry's for ice cream (6 - midnight), East Lodge for ice cream, hotdogs, nachos, and various snacks (7-10:30 pm). Also it shows Bongo Burgers for beef burgers, safari lamb burgers, and crispy wings. Open 6pm till midnight. Hope this helps.
