Apparently, they filed an 8-K on Wednesday that said they ran a substantial risk of "failing to comply" with the terms of $726 million in federally guaranteed loans by 9/30. The article contains a couple of grim prognostications from analysts.

Gosh, this looks pretty bad. Sept 30 is only 56 days away. These things often go down to the wire. But it seems that if labor and management do not pull together soon it may all be over.

Okay, swa: what was the occasion for this bashing of US? (I know: one man's bash is another's way of helping us lost souls face reality.)
Is there a hidden agenda here? What is your interest in seeing us lose our status, or divert our business away from US?

A while back there was a large thread where everyone talked about who they were and what they did. I remarked the iflyswa never identified himself and wondered since his name took you to swa's website if he was actually an employe of swa or affiliate (advertising firm). He never did let us know, but here he is there bashing US and doom and gloom at every turn. Why? I have a life outside my work. I read this board for enjoyment, but iflyswa seems to have another agenda. Did US do something to his family for his animosity? Inquiring minds want to know?
Best of luck on Roachfest 04. I'll miss it since I'll be in Row 2 to CLT from ABE Saturday morning traveling on business, but I'll be thinking of all of you.

A quick review of this link will show how this poster contributes to the value of FT. Then you can decide for yourself. As our host says, you are what you post.
Edited to add: well that link didn't work! If you search all of his/her post by clicking on the user name and then find all post by user, I think you will find very little redeeming value to any post found. No offers of help, no contributions to threads, no answering of questions posted by other members of the commuinty. Try the search and decide for yourself.

He takes way too much glee in posting negatives about US. Don't get me wrong, I'm no shill for the company but at least I have US butt in seat miles which gives me some knowledge regarding what I write.

Let's get something cleared up too, my post was removed for name calling. I DID NOT call iflyswa a name - I merely was replying to his, "good golly gosh..........maybe its too late for US" post. It, the post, makes me sick.
I certinally am not interested in his agenda

Default is fine by me, the double tier mileage promo is over on September 30th too. . . :D
Seriously, US will be here for quite a while. They'll work this out. I am optimistic for once and actually enjoying it. Makes me a happier person. . .But if i was REALLY insecure I could go over to the WN forum and take glee in their recent upheavals. But I won't, since I am not ;)

Maybe I should time hitting CP for the 30th. I was actually in one their aircraft as I recall when they declared Ch11. Oh well, Ive already decided to play the game with them one more year by getting the tickets to hit CP. If I they go out I lose. I hope it doesnt happen and dont think it will but Im willing to roll the dice on it at this point.
The one thing that I dont like about the situation is that I have noticed a decided improvement in service and attitude towards customers on UA and AA. I have noticed a decrease in this regard at US. Not overall, most are still great. But I have had more unsatisfying interactions this year even only flying a few flights than I have probably had in several years of segment qualifications to CP. That is pretty troubling. It is clear that UA had a management change in customer relations, bringing in someone that seems like a real hard charger from JetBlue last year. The changes started not long after that. US isnt making the grade in this area in my opinion. Im also pretty tired of never having crew to fly the planes. Since I started flying US again in July I am 4 out of 5 I think for trips in which at least one segment was significantly delayed because we were missing a crew member. Putting me in the Hyatt because of that isnt saving US much money either.

This is quite worrisome. A common trend among airlines that have pulled themselves out of bad situations (such as continental) has been service turnarounds. U simply cant make it unless they quickly develop a committment towards outstanding customer service.

This filing MAY be another way of convincing the unions to agree to additional concessions very quickly.
You know, sometimes we actually perform theater to get our way quicker or easier.
Let's just hope....

I have found the service to be pretty good lately, i.e pre-departure drinks, friendly staff, 767 to LAS. I still find flying U an enjoyable experience and hope they can get their act together.

7 6 7 to LAS? Did you have a few too many pre-departure drinks and get your airlines mixed up? Or has there been an equipment change that I missed?

yeah, this is something i'd like to know about too. i hadn't heard about them using 767s to vegas. if they are, that'd be great. but i can't find any suggestion on the website and/or when i'm trying to make a reservation that this is indeed the case.

US Airways' newest offer: Profit sharing
Plan designed to make concessions more palatable to unions
TED REED
Staff Writer
US Airways has offered a carrot in negotiations with its unions, saying it's willing to provide profit sharing to all employees except for officers.
The airline would distribute 10 percent of its profits, in cash, to employees if its annual profit margin is between zero and 5 percent, Chief Executive Bruce Lakefield said in a taped message to employees Friday.
It would distribute 25 percent of profits if the margin exceeds 5 percent. Profit margin is profit as a percentage of sales.
Profit sharing "would go a long way toward our goal of changing the company's culture by rewarding employees for their contributions to our profitability," Lakefield said.
Lakefield has suggested the possibility of profit sharing in the past, but had not made a formal offer nor specified an amount. On Friday he said the Retirement Systems of Alabama, the airline's primary owner, has agreed to the plan.
The plan is contingent on avoiding a second filing under the bankruptcy code, he said. The airline is negotiating with unions for $800 million a year in concessions, which it says it needs to avoid bankruptcy court.
Mike Flores, president of the Charlotte local of the US Airways chapter of the Association of Flight Attendants, called the offer "a good start towards a productive negotiating process," but added: "Whether it's enough to offset the steep cost cuts they are seeking from us, I'm not sure."
The last time US Airways reported an annual profit without counting unusual items was 1999; it earned $197 million.
The airline said this week that it may default this quarter on terms of loan guarantees by the federal Air Transport Stabilization Board, which would have the option to demand repayment of the $720 million loan.

Profit sharing with this company is something akin to opening a blood bank with Dracula. Seriously, it's an election year, and Pennsylvania, and especially N. Carolina, are important places in that process. Besides, your government isn't ready to take the hit just yet. A face saving solution will be concocted.

I'm sorry to cause such an uproar, but it was just a substitution on 7/24 CLT-LAS. I had bought a A fare and then I get the 767 and the flight left with empty seats in F. It was so nice to have that much room on a domestic flight and the service was very good.

glad u is finally offering profit sharing to employees. Certainly, employees making all these sacrifices for the survival of the company should share in the profits. I guess the big question though is whether one can reasonably hope that there will be profits to share.
