You will now be connected with Allen. He can help you upgrade reservations, check your upgrade status, provide Dividend Miles account information, and enroll you in promotions. I think he can book reward reservations, but I am not sure. It appears he cannot book or change revenue reservations.
You can also call Allen by following similar prompts on the Gold Preferred reservations line. It seems like Allen has not been made available to Chairman's Preferred members, but if they want to talk to him (e.g. to upgrade or chekc upgrade status) they could call him via the Gold or general reservations number.
I've only talked to Allen for about 2 minutes so I don't yet feel comfortable commenting on how well he functions, and plus its probably nearly his first day on the job.
I wonder how they came up with the name Allen? This is similar to Julie who works for Amtrak.

I've talked with Allen. It was ok but felt it was more of a gimmick than a help. Both times I ended up needing to talk with an agent.
I have not been formally introduced to Alan but Claire (Sprint PCS's virtual representative) & I are very tight. She is very nice and gives me credit for dropped calls each month! :D

Thanks for the invitation, but all the same, I think I'll stick with the real people on the CP line.

Sounds like you owe Claire a drink or two.
I've met Alan and I prefer to speak to someone with a pulse.

Ah but he has a pulse but in industry jargon it is known as "clock speed"

I've never heard the term "clock speed." What does that mean?

IVR systems can be a good thing.
If I had any confidence in the backend systems that US uses, I might even call Big Al' for something like putting myself on the upgrade queue.
Based on the fact that US can't get the webby version to work correctly with any degree of consistancy, I have absolutely no confidence at all that the Al' inspired upgrade requests would actually work. Having implemented webby and IVR front end to legacy systems that are orders of magnitude more complex than the US Sabre partition, US past track record from an IT standpoint leaves no doubt that talking to Al about anything is probably like having a conversation with BBB about expanding elite bennies: useless.

Used Allen last night (8/4) to check on upgrade for return flight on 8/7 (from Roachfest.) Allen said that I was not within the 3 day window??? I called gold line and was told this has been happening all week, I guess Alan should go back to school for math classes. I will bring this up Saturday at the meeting. :D

I got frustrated with Allen & was ultimately directed to a real, live agent, who told me my upgrade did not clear at the 3-day window for 8AM on Sunday. Good thing I budgeted $1.00 to make a local call from my hotel room to do on-line check-in!

I think it's how fast the computer proccessor runs at.
More computerization of company help lines, bah humbug!
My question for you: would you rather talk to Alan, to a person over in India, or pay (http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/040728/delta_4.html) the company to talk to a rep. in the United States?

I prefer to talk to a person. I prefer to keep jobs in the United States. However, if these computers worked smoothly, I'd have no problem using them for routine stuff. I learned my lesson in the grocery checkout. I avoid UScanUm lines. US kiosks usually work fine for a routine check-in. As does web check-in. Alan...he needs more training.

But if you can get Alan to work, then you can get 1,000 bonus miles for booking award reservation with him. I just have a hard time getting him to understand my voice.

Alan is biased towards Canadians. He refuses to help me because I don't have a 5 digit zip code. When I request to speak to an agent, he wants to confirm my account first by asking for my zip code....

If I could do what I needed to do by interacting with an automated system, I would choose to access the USAir website. If I'm calling the reservations phone number, I expect to talk with a live person since the online system did not meet my needs. If USair.com cant help me, I doubt Alan could either. :td:

Alan has a brother. I called to check on the status of my delayed baggage and had the "pleasure" of speaking to Alex. Alex asked me if I had filed the claim today, and when I said yes, he said "OK, December 10, 2004". When I corrected him, he requested my file locator two times without being able to confirm it before falling back to the bag tag numbers. He understood the bag tag number the first time and immediately transferred me to an agent...
On the positive side, the agent was able to tell me everything down to the name of the delivery company that had just picked my bags up at the airport.
The above link says that January 12 is St. Allan's Day :) !
Has anyone told AlanB of the Amtrak forum yet? I should PM him!

I have not had the pleasure of speaking to Allen, but I have spoken to Alex regarding lost bags. He seriously needs to get his hearing checked.
But it all worked out. While waiting for my return flight (YYZ - PHL) two days later, I simply went to baggage claim and found my bag myself. :p

My buddys bags were lost so we got the pleasure of talking with Alex. Alex nicely informed us all day on Friday that his bags have not been located.. Funny though we were driving by the airport and decided to talk to someone other then Alex who has a pulse bout the bags.. Well 5 minutes after Alex informed us the bags have not been located, we spotted the bag sitting behind the counter as we were explaining our story..
